Death of Anthony Blake
Anthony BLAKE, a well-known citizen of Albion, was killed by an electric car near the corner of
75th Street and Madison Avenue, in Chicago, last Friday. He attempted to get off the car before
it came to a full stop, and was thrown partially under the car and dragged some distance. He was
helped back upon the car, and returned to his boarding house not realizing that he was badly
hurt. But he soon began to suffer severe pain, and a doctor was called. Nothing could be done
to relieve him and he died in about two hours. It was found that his hip was broken and his shoulders
badly wrenched, but death probably resulted from internal injury. A coroner's jury censured the
railway company for carelessness in connection with the accident.
Mrs. BLAKE returned with the remains to Albion, where the funeral was held yesterday. The burial was in Kendall.
Mr. BLAKE was born in Alsace-Loraine in 1819 and came to this country with his father when a boy. For many year he lived in Kendall, where he was engaged in farming and was a highly honored citizen, and about ten years ago he removed to Albion. He was an earnest christian, and an active and influential member of the Methodist Church for many years. He leaves a widow (Catherine) who is a sister of Hon. Ira EDWARDS of this village, and eight sons and daughters. Mortimer BLAKE, who occupies the family honestead in Kendall, is the only one of the children now residing in this county.
(Note: Anthony parents were Nicholas BLOCH 1790 ALsace, FR - 20 Jul 1868 Lancaster, Erie, NY and Marie Anna SCHMIADLE 1797 Alsace, FR - 1868 Lancaster, Erie, NY)

Died in Shelby, on the morning of the 19th inst. after a long and lingering illness, Master Charlie, son of Jane E. BOARDMAN, aged ten years and six months.
(Added to above notice) The occasion for this announcement seems to require more than an ordinary notice. “Little Charlie” (as he was usually called) was an uncommon bright, intelligent child; and by his manly deportment, his kind and gentle manner, and his amiable disposition, endeared him to all who knew him. Although favored with the kindest care that an affectionate mother could bestow, his pain and suffering was intense; all of which he bore to the last with a resignation and fortitude seldom witnessed in a person of more mature age. And heartrending as may be his loss to a devoted and affectionate mother, she enjoys the consolation that he is at rest, and where pain and suffering is not known.

A one-year-old infant was killed almost instantly at his home at Knowlesville late Thursday when he was run over by his father’s truck driven by a young hired man.
The baby, Jimmie BOKMAN, was lying on the grass near the driveway to the family garage when Adelbert Bennett, 19, driver of the Bokman milk truck, entered the yard. Michael BOKMAN, father of the child, was seated in the automobile of a visitor, which was parked in the driveway. THE PASSING OF HEZEKIAH BOWEN
Well Known Medina Citizen Died Yesterday
Sketch of His Career
At the Outbreak of the Civil War He Recruited the “Independent Rifles”
and Was Brevetted for His Service—Orleans County
Colonel Hezekiah BOWEN, of Medina, who has been ill for some months, died early Wednesday morning, aged 81 years. He was born in Sennett, Cayuga county, N.Y., his early life being passed on a farm and his education obtained in the common schools. He located in Orleans county in 1855 and immediately became prominent in the political life of the county. He was elected supervisor from the town of Ridgeway, but when the war broke out he resigned to recruit a company of “Independent Rifles” which was afterward attached to the One Hundred and Fifty-First New York Voluntary Infantry.
He served through the war and in recognition of his service to his country he was brevetted lieutenant-colonel. He always took a deep and vital interest in the organizations of the war veterans and was a prominent G.A.R. man. After the war he retired to his farm and became one of the leading practical farmers of the state. Beginning as an exhibitor at the State Fair, he was soon appointed general superintendent and served in that capacity for twenty-five years.
In 1892 he was elected to secure and take charge of the New York state agricultural exhibit at Chicago, and his success in this direction is flatteringly recognized in the report of the director-in-chief. He was always an active, enthusiastic and unswerving Republican from the formation of the party to the day of his death, rising from a sick bed to cast his vote at the late election. He was liberal and progressive in thought, a man of strong conviction, and had many friends.
He had resided in and near Medina for nearly a half century and had been prominently identified with every grand movement for improvement or for good. The surviving family consists of the widow and one daughter, Mrs. H. B. HOWELL [Helena Adelaide, wife of Henry B. HOWELL], of Medina.

Mrs. Elsie C. BOWERS died at the Batavia Hospital Friday morning after a short illness following an operation for gall trouble Monday morning. Mrs. BOWERS was born January 24, 1870, at West Milton, Ohio, where she resided until the fall of 1921 when she with her husband and family moved to New York state having purchased the farm of C. W. Pickwell.
In 1893 she was united in marriage to E. (Edward) W. BOWERS and to this union four children were born who together with her husband survive her, Mrs. Frances FROSDICK of Oakfield, Miss Mary BOWERS of Buffalo, Miss Verna BOWERS of Batavia, and W. Jennings BOWERS of this place.
Mrs. BOWERS had an unusually sweet and cheery disposition winning friends immediately and holding them by the warmth and sincerity of her character. She was a concientious christian mother installing into the hearts and minds of her children the beauty and need of the faith of Jesus Christ. She will be sadly missed at Ladies’ Aid and Church where she was a faithful attendant. Her many friends testify with her husband and children in the words of the prophet "She looketh well to the ways of her household and eateth not of the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also and he praiseth her.”
