Relatives of Admiral Joseph CRAIG were informed Tuesday morning by wire that the Admiral died at his home in Washington, D. C., Monday evening. Admiral CRAIG was born in Medina 80 years ago and lived with his parents at No. 400 Prospect avenue, the place now being occupied by Charles N. Hood.
Admiral CRAIG was appointed midshipman at the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis in 1861 and graduated in 1865. He saw little service during the Civil War. He was in the naval service since 1865, until his retirement a few years ago. Mr. CRAIG was entrusted with important commissions by the United States government in expeditions to Asia, Africa and the far North. His abilities were early recognized by the navel authorities and he was appointed as instructor at the United States Naval Academy and afterwards Commander of that institution. Since he made Washington his home he has made it a practice to visit Medina frequently.
Mr. CRAIG’s wife was Miss Aleathe LAWBER, of Medina and she resided for years in the home now occupied by W. J. Gallagher, at East Center and Orient streets. She predeceased him some fifteen years. He is survived by one daughter, Aleathe, who is the wife of Lieutenant Commander Stephen YEANDLE, Commander of the 'rum fleet’ operating along the Atlantic coast.
Mr. CRAIG’s brother, Oscar CRAIG, was a former Medina boy and was the founder of Craig Colony at Sonyea, near Mount Morris, which is now a state institution. The Admiral will be buried in the Sailors and Soldiers’ division of the National cemetery at Arlington.

The death of Dr. F. H. CRANDALL which occurred yesterday afternoon, although expected, was indeed a shock to the community. Since last spring he had been more or less indisposed, a greater part of the time being confined to the house, and it was known by his friends that it was only a question of time with him; that at any moment his spirit might be called home to Him who gave it. He leaves behind him many warm friends who mourn his loss besides a loving wife (Mary Ann) and daughter (Florence) who, in this their hour of trial have the deepest sympathy of the entire community.

Hannah BROWN, relict (widow) of the late John L. CRANDALL, who died at her home in Gaines, Tuesday, May 12th, was born in Canada, November 5, 1808. When she was about eight years of age her parents removed to Gaines, and she lived, was educated, married and died within a mile and a half of the place where they first located. In her younger days she rendered her father a great deal of assistance with his farm work, thus saving the services of an extra man. Plowing and dragging the fields with an ox team, loading hay, and other work usually done by men, was often cheerfully performed by her - labor of which she delighted to tell in later days.
She was married to John L. Crandall in 1828, and reared a family of nine children, eight of whom were under age at the time of Mr Crandall’s death, in 1851. Joining the Albion Methodist church in 1830, she was an active member until the death of her husband, afterwards being kept from divine services a great deal by the cares of her children; but she was a constant reader of the Bible and followed its precepts until called to her reward.
Six children survive her, as follows: Wallace CRANDALL, of VanBuren county, Mich.; Albert W. CRANDALL, of San Jose, Cal, Lewis B. and John B. CRANDALL, and Mrs. Byron DENSMORE, of Gaines; and Mrs P. J. PRUSIA, of this village.

About 6 o’clock Saturday afternoon, Margaret, the little 6 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John CULVER, who reside about a mile south of this village, was found missing from their home and the parents becoming alarmed at the absence of the little girl, started out in search for her. In searching through an orchard joining their home, they found her footprints in the snow leading down to the Oak Orchard creek, which is only a few rods west of their home. There on the ice they found footprints where she had been, the ice at that point being very thin. It broke, letting her fall into the whirling waters below. Scores of men from this village started out in search for the remains, but as yet the body has not been recovered. The parents are nearly distracted over the sad ending of their little girl and they have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in this their sad hour of bereavement.

“From those closed eyes, and those white lips
Where loving smiles no longer play,
What to the ear that silence hears,
Does Death to us, the living, say?
“No more for me can you do aught,
Save make the flowers bloom where I sleep;
But hearts of living ones still ache,
And eyes of living ones still weep.”

Wilbur Allen CURTISS was born June 30th, 1838 at Arcade, N. Y. When an infant his parents returned to their former home at Hartland, Niagara County, where the greater portion of his life was spent. On April 22, 1861 he was united in marriage to Miss Jane HENLEY, of Hartland, who passed on to the higher life Oct. 11, 1905 after nearly 45 years of wedded life. Of this marriage were born three children viz. Mrs. Cora A. THORNE, of Gasport, Mrs. Stella BROWN, of this place, and Mrs. Donna BUFFUM, of East Aurora. In 1892 Mr. and Mrs. CURTISS and daughter Donna moved to East Aurora where they lived for several years.
Mr. CURTISS was a man of sterling character, a good citizen, a kind neighbor, an affectionate father and a loving and tender husband. While he never made any formal profession of religion, he believed that deeds were better than words and exemplified in his life the high moral standard that he always held. His later years were spent with his children, his death occurring after a lingering illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs. THORNE, of Gasport. The last months of his life were manifested by severe suffering which he bore with the utmost patience and resignation. To him there was no fear of death for what we know as death was but transition to a higher; grander and more abundant life, where there's no pain and no darkness.
Dissolution occurred on Thursday, the 23rd. of March and his body was taken to East Aurora for burial. Brief services were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. BUFFUM. The Rev. E. Allice Bradley, of Buffalo officiating. Three children, eleven grand children and two great grandchildren survive him.
