The death of Mrs. Anna ROACHE occurred at her home on Main street Saturday evening. Deceased was 90 years of age, and leaves five children. The funeral took place Tuesday morning at nine o'clock at St. Mary's Church.

Funera1 services have been scheduled on Monday for John J. ROACH, 49, of 400 Commercial St. who died suddenly yesterday afternoon in Medina Memorial Hospital. The local man, an employee of Bell Aircraft Corp. in Niagara Falls, had been admitted to the hospital Wednesday.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; a daughter, Carol Ann, and two step-daughters, Marilyn and Elain KELLEY. Also two sisters Mrs. Helen COFFEY of Albion and Mrs. Catherine DeSMIT of Rochester.
Services will be held at the Cleary Funeral Home, Park Ave., at 8:30 a.m. Monday, and at St. Mary’s Church at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Margaret Nora ROACHE, beloved daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John McNAMARA died at her home on Elm street at three o’clock this morning after a long illness of leakage of the heart, aged 15 years. She was a long and patient sufferer, and her many friends grieve to learn of her sad death. She was a graduate of St. Mary's school where she was loved and cherished by the host of friends she possessed. Deceased is survived by her mother; three sisters, Mae, Helen, and Catherine; and one brother, John, all of this place. Funeral Thursday morning at nine o 'clock at St. Mary’s church. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
The funeral of the late Margaret Nora ROACHE was held Thursday morning at St. Mary's church, the Rev. Thomas Gleason officiating, and was attended by a very large circle of friends. The floral tokens were numerous and beautiful, mute reminders of the esteem in which the young lady was held. The bearers were: Samuel Gibbs, Norman Brennan, John McCarthy, Raymond Kelly, Arthur Horan and Thomas O'Connell. Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. arid Mrs. P. I. Shannon, Mr. Daniel Neary, and Ray Mahar, of Buffalo; Mrs. Herbert Willhammer and daughters, Helen and Agnes, and Mr. Daniel Sullivan, of Albion.

SERVICES TUESDAY FOR MISS AMANDA ROBBINS
The death of Miss Amanda ROBBINS, 76, occurred Friday afternoon in an Albion hispital after an
illness of five years. Born in Lewiston, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and
Ruth KINSLEY ROBBINS. Miss ROBBINS made her some on Gwinn Street with her sister,
Mrs. Ellen T. WILLIS, who died in 1935, and husband, George A. WILLIS, also deceased.
Her only survivors are three nieces and two nephews; Mrs. A. W. WALL of Rochester,
Mrs. Jessie BAILEY of Shelby Basin, Mrs. Irene DAVEY of Middleport, CLyde WILLIS of Elmira, and
Glenn WILLIS of Buffalo. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the
Hartt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Webb W. Ayres, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in
Bates Road Cemetery.

Mrs. Elizabeth Kemp RUTTON ROBBINS, widow of the late Henry Welles ROBBINS, died Wednesday evening, August third, at the home of Mrs. William ADKINS on Erin Road, after an illness of ten years.
Mrs. ROBBINS was born on September 12, 1872, in Imperial, Pa., the daughter of Henry and Cornelia RUTTON. She lived in Pittsburgh for several years and was married there in 1894. The family moved to Medina in 1901. She was an active and devoted member of the Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by one son, Thomas B. ROBBINS and two granddaughters, Betsey and Jean ROBBINS all of Medina. The services will be held from the Cleary Funeral Home at 2:30 on Friday afternoon with the Rev. Edward SIMPSON conducting the service. In accordance with a request of the deceased, flowers are gratefully declined.

Francis L. ROBBINS, of Pittsburg, well known in Medina, died at his home in the Dusquene Club, in that city, Saturday, of sclerosis of the liver. Mr. ROBBINS had been in feeble health for more than a year past, and had gradually grown weaker until the end.
Deceased was one of the most prominent men in Pittsburg, and for a time became a national figure, in fact, he came near being chosen United States Senator from Pennsylvania. Mr. ROBBINS was for some years president of the Pittsburg Coal Company and a prominent figure in business and political centers.
At the time of his death he was the president of the Bignall Manufacturing Company of this place and of the West Virginia Coal Company, of Pittsburg. He is survived by his widow and one brother, H. (Henry) W. ROBBINS, of this place.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 in his 228 Park Avenue
home for Henry Wells ROBBINS, Medina industrialist, whose death occurred Sunday.
Mr. ROBBINS had been confined to his home for the past six weeks, however his condition
had not been regarded as serious until the past few days. Death was the result of a heart
condition with other complications. Rev. William L. Findlay, pastor of the First
Presbyterian Church will officiate and burial will be in
Boxwood Cemetery.
Mr. ROBBINS was born in Penn Yan, N.Y., July 31 1870. He later moved to Pittsburg, Pa.,
where he engaged in the coal and oil business for a number of years. He came to Medina
in 1901 and became associated with his late brother, W. B. ROBBINS in the operation of the
Bignall Co, Upon the death of his brother in 1907, Mr. ROBBINS was named to the presidency of
the company and remained in that position until his death. He was the organizer of the Medina
Automobile Club in 1909 and continued as secretary-treasurer of the organization for nearly
twenty years. He was largely responsible for the work done by the club in the early days of
road direction marking and saw the organization grow from a handful of members to over 1200
during his term of office. His work was recognized by the New York State Automobile Association
and he was elected president of the state body in 1918 and served two terms ending in 1920.
While not a member at the time of his death, he was one of the organizers and a charter
member of the Medina Rotary Club. Mr. ROBBINS had contributed generously of his time and
money to the civic interests of Medina. He was a director for many years of the Community Y.M.C.A.
and active in the financial campaign for the Medina Memorial Hospital. A member of the First
Presbyterian Church he has served as a member of the trustees for many years.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth K. (RUTTON) ROBBINS, a son, Thomas B. ROBBINS, and
two granddaughters, Betsey and Jean ROBBINS all of Medina.

Mrs. Harvey J. ROBBINS died very suddenly this morning after suffering a heart attack at her home, N. Gravel Rd. Mrs. ROBBINS, 51, a Medina native, was the daughter of the late Henry and Elvira DOCKERY. She was associated with her husband here in business, being vice-president of Harvey J. Robbins, Inc., operators of the Firestone store in Medina. She was a charter member of the Medina-Middleport Business & Professional Women's Club.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Pvt. Donald ROBBINS, stationed at Ft. Dix, N.J., three cousins in Medina, Mrs. Herbert ALLEN, Miss Mary DOCKERY and Colton DOCKERY; also several cousins in Niagara Falls, Miss Marjorie CUDDY, Miss May CUDDY, Miss Gertrude CUDDY, and William CUDDY.
Friends will be received at the Cleary Funeral Home, Park Ave. Funeral arrangements are not complete.

The death of B. C. (?) ROBERTS, a highly regarded resident of East Shelby, occurred March 13th, at the home where he was born 51 years ago. The funeral was held at the house Tuesday afternoon, March 16th, Rev. J. H. Sandmeyer, of Fairport, N.Y. , a former pastor, officiating. Burial in East Shelby Cemetery. He was married in 1892 to Miss Anna WATSON, who with one son, H. Justin, survive him. He was a graduate of Lima Seminary in the Business course in 1890.
He was a charter member of East Shelby Grange and was Master for five years and did very much in making it a success. He was also superintendant and an active worker in the Sunday school. The floral offerings of the Sunday school, the Men's Class, the Grange and from others were very beautiful and many. Although he was in failing health for the last four years, yet he was interested and enthusiastic in every good work for the betterment of the social, educational and spiritual welfare of the community.
His cheerful and sunny disposition, his patience and consideration of others in his sickness as well as health, were characteristics of him and added much to his influence and friendly qualities. May his upright character, his sterling virtues, his unselfish spirit be kept in the memories and function in the lives of his many friends, and be like the leaves of the fir tree, fresh and evergreen.

Former Prominent Alabama Man Dead at His Home in Oakfield
Charles W. ROBERTS, a well-known and highly respected resident of this place, died on Tuesday afternoon, after an illness of only six days with the grip, followed by acute Bright's disease.
Mr. ROBERTS was born in Shelby, Orleans County, April 20, 1835, being the third son of Ziba and Susan WOLCOTT ROBERTS. He married Miss Huldah Ann LOUCKS in 1858 and began housekeeping in Alabama, a mile from where he was born, and he always lived here until last year, when he moved to this village.
He was known throughout Genesee County, as he had held the offices of supervisor, assessor, justice and highway commissioner and had been president of the Genesee Agricultural Society. He was a member of the Oakfield Grange and of the East Shelby M.E. church. He was a member of sterling qualities, public spirited and one who will be greatly missed.
Besides his wife Mr. ROBERTS is survived by a son, Rollow W. ROBERTS of Saginaw, Mich.; three daughters, Mrs. J.J. BRATT of Batavia, Mrs. Elizabeth R. GRINNELL of Saginaw, Mich., and Miss Jennie C. ROBERTS who lived at home; two brothers, George ROBERTS of Alabama and Ziba ROBERTS of East Shelby, and a sister, Mrs. James WOLCOTT of Medina. R.W. ROBERTS and Mrs. GRINNELL have arrived from Saginaw.
The funeral will be from the house at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Mr. ROBERT's pastor, the Rev. James E. NEAL of West Barre, assisted by the Rev. George E. PRICE of this place, officiating. The burial will be in the East Shelby Cemetery.

James ROBERTS, of Albion, met with a peculiarly fatal accident on Saturday afternoon. In attempting to mount his wagon he was thrown to the ground by his team starting suddenly, striking on the back of his neck, fracturing the bone and producing paralysis of the entire body. He was conscious until Monday afternoon, being able to talk with friends and arrange his business affairs, when death resulted. Deceased was an old and highly esteemed resident of Albion and leaves a wife (Priscilla) and one daughter, Mrs. L. H. BEACH.

Carlton Station. One week ago tonight at the midnight hour J. B. ROBERTS passed from the church militant to the church triumphant. He had been in poor health for some time. Finally pneumonia closed his journey of life. He was a good Christian and ready to depart at the Master's calling. He leaves a son, David, who kindly cared for him during his last days. He was a good citizen, a kind father and esteemed neighbor. Burial was at Mt. Albion Cemetery Saturday.

Mrs. Marion J. ROBERTS, aged eighty-seven years, died in Albion Monday. She is survived by four sons, Victor and William C., of Albion, and Mellville and Byron, of Chicago.

The death of Rolla ROBERTS formerly of East Shelby, occurred at Saginaw, Mich. Tuesday morning. Death was caused by injuries received in an automobile accident sometime Sunday. He has many relatives and friends in this place, having spent all of his early life here.

Commital services for Alfred Dawson ROBERTSON, 61, native of Medina and son of the late James D. and Anna DAWSON ROBERTSON of this village, were held in Boxwood Cemetery here yesterday afternoon. Mr. Robertson died at his home in Detroit, Mich. on Monday, August 8th.
Surviving are his widow, the former Josephine CROWLEY of Buffalo, and three brothers, James D. of Winchester, Va. and Duncan and William of Detroit, Mich.

James D. ROBERTSON died at his home on Main street Tuesday night, aged 74 years. Mr. ROBERTSON was born at Lethenday, Perthshire, Scotland, and came to this country when 21 years of age. Until his retirement some years since, he had been engaged in the dry goods business in some capacity, either as member of a firm, buyer or traveling representative. He was in business in Medina at one time, and while here was united in marriage to Miss Anna DAWSON who survives with four sons. Mr. ROBERTSON was a communicant of St. John's Episcopal Church, a member of the Masonic fraternity and of the Alert and City Clubs. The funeral in charge of Medina Lodge 336 F. and A. M., will be held at the residence Friday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. Gilbert A. Shaw will officiate. Interment at Boxwood Cemetery.

W. Bertrand ROBERTSON, of 432 East Center street, who was familiarly known as Bert ROBERTSON, died at his home last evening after a sickness of less than ten days. Mr. ROBERTSON was injured four years ago while loading apples in cars at one of the cold storages and has never been well since, he had a severe attack of liver and kidney trouble some three weeks ago but recovered, apparently, but another seizure came early last week and he sank rapidly to his death.
Mr. ROBERTSON was born 43 years ago. in Albion, but had lived in Medina some thirty years. He had been engaged in various occupations, as a salesman for sewing machines and farm implements, and for some years he had been handling an oil route to which he recently added a meat business.
He leaves a wife and one little daughter, Annabelle, aged five years. The funeral will take place on Monday and the burial will be in the Robertson lot at Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Services Held Sunday For E.J. Robinson
Lyndonville - Funeral services for Edward J. ROBINSON, 58, were held Sunday afternoon
at 2:30 o'clock from his late home on West Avenue, this village. Mr. ROBINSON died
Friday morning, February 8, at his farm house on the East Yates Center Road, where
he had been taken ill five days earlier, and his condition had been so serious that
he could not be moved either to his home or to the hospital.
Born in the Town of Yates, August 26, 1887, he was the son of Mrs. Flora (NEAL) ROBINSON and the late Nicholas ROBINSON. He had resided on this village about forty years, and with his late father had engaged in farming.
He is survived by his mother, with shom he made his home; one brother, Robert, of Syracuse; and tho nephews, Edward and Donald ROBINSON of Rochester. The Rev. E.A. Belknap of the of the Methodist Church officiated at the funeral service, and interment was in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Lyndonville - Mrs. Flora ROBINSON, 85, died at Pagel Nursing Home, Albion, early Monday. She had been a patient there since November. Mrs. ROBINSON was born in Town of Ridgeway, July 26, 1867, the daughter of Robert and Mary GRATRICK NEAL. She married Nicholas ROBINSON in 1881 and has since resided in the Towns of Ridgeway and Yates. In recent years, her residence had been on West Ave. in Lyndonville.
Mr. ROBINSON died in July 1944, and a son, Edward in April, 1946. The deceased is survived by one son, Robert, of Syracuse, and two grandsons, Edward and Donald ROBINSON of Rochester. Also six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday from her home, 22 West Ave. The Rev. Raymond Draffin will officiate and burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Albion Man Electrocuted
James Albert ROBINSON, of Albion, who was employed by Matthew A. Ryan, an
Albion stone quarry owner, was instantly killed yesterday afternoon when he came
in contact with live wires carrying the current of the A. L. Swett Electric Light
and Power Company.
James A. ROBINSON Electrocuted.
On Wednesday afternoon James A. ROBINSON 24 years old,
residing at 51 West Academy street, while moving overhead wires on Mathew Ryan's
digging machine, was electrocuted in West Park street near the Baptist Church.
Mr. ROBINSON is survived by a widow and one child.

James A. ROBINSON, who was employed by Matthew A. Ryan,
a stone quarry owner, was almost instantly killed Wednesday afternoon when he came
in contact with live wires carrying the current of the A. L. Swett Electric Light
& Power Company. Mr. ROBINSON was assisting in moving a large steam shovel on West
Park street and was standing on top of the machine clearing wires overhead when he
struck wires from which insulation had worn off. He was 33 years old. He leaves his
parents, wife, two children, one brother and one sister.

Dr. William A. ROBISON, for many years a Medina physician, died Tuesday in St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, where he was admitted a week ago, suffering from a heart ailment. He was 68 years old.
Dr. Robison is survived by his wife, Elizabeth G., at home, 321 West Center Street; a son, William A. ROBISON, Jr.. of Rochester; a daughter, Elizabeth G. ROBISON of Buffalo. Also a granddaughter and a grandson. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow for Dr. William A. Final rites for Miss Ethel H. ROBSON who died in Chisholm, Minn., on Jan. 10, were held here Thursday at Albion from the home of her brother, Wilfred ROBSON, at 201 South Main Street and burial was in Millville Cemetery.

Mrs. Margaret BANNAN ROGAN, wife of Dr. George F. ROGAN, died at the family home on Main street, November 25th, after a brief illness. Mrs. ROGAN had always resided in Medina, was a graduate of the High School and taught for a number of years in the Medina grade schools. She was a prominant and active worker in societies connected with St. Mary's Church and was greatly beloved by many friends.
Besides her husband one brother, John BANNAN, survives. The funeral was held on Saturday at nine o'clock at St. Mary's church, the Rev. Thomas Gleason officiating. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Nelson ROGERS
This old pioneer -- possibly the oldest settler in this
vicinity at the time of his death -- died on Saturday last at his farm home on
South Main street, aged 78 years. He was born at Washington, Mass., in Nov.
1807, and removed with his parents in 1816 to the farm where he spent all the
years of his life. The family made the journey with an ox team, working their
way through the forest from the Ridge road by the guidance of blazed trees. He
was united in marriage to Candice WYMAN, of Shelby, who survives him, and who
bore him six sons and one daughter, all of whom are living. He was of retiring
disposition, and it is said that he rarely if ever journeyed on the cars. He
was a member of the Presbyterian church and his funeral on Monday was conducted
by Rev. Geo. F. Cain.

Mrs. Amy DAVIS ROGERS died at her home in Gaines just north of Albion Wednesday evening on the 75th anniversary of her birth in 1855. Mrs. ROGERS was the widow of Henry ROGERS and she had lived in this vicinity all her life. She leaves a sister, Mrs. Ella WESCOTT of Gaines, and several nieces and grandsons. Funeral services were held at the McNall and McNall funeral home on South Main street Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial was in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Mrs. Elizabeth ROGERS and family received word of the sudden death of
Dr. B.F.[Benjamin Franklin] ROGERS at Hollywood, Cal., where they had
gone to spend the winter. The body was brought back to his home in
Buffalo and buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery. He was once an Albion boy,
and was the last member of the late Nelson ROGERS.
(Note: Dr. ROGERS was the son of Albert Nelson ROGERS & Candace P. WYMAN)
Dr. Benjamin F. ROGERS of Buffalo died in California on January 2nd. The body was brought to Buffalo, and the funeral was held yesterday at his late offices in Franklin street, the family home at No. 1306 Delaware avenue being closed for the winter. The Rev. Dr. Stewart of the North Presbyterian church officiated, and the burial was in the family lot in Forest Lawn.
Dr. ROGERS was born in 1854 and came to Buffalo from near Medina. He took his degree at the University of Buffalo in 1870, and was secretary of his class. Returning to Medina, he practiced medicine there for some years.
In 1887, he married Edna, the youngest daughter of the late Austin A. and Sarah PEACOCK HOWARD of Buffalo. Shortly after, Dr. and Mrs. ROGERS removed permanently to Buffalo, and, after post-graduate study in New York and elsewhere, Dr. Rogers specialized as an occulist.
For several years Dr. and Mrs. ROGERS with Mrs. ROGERS's sister, Miss Alice A. HOWARD, have closed their Buffalo home at No. 1306 Delaware avenue and have spent their winters at Hollywood, Cal. They left Buffalo in October last, and motored to California. Their only daughter, Miss Sarah Peacock ROGERS, has for some years lived in Boston, where she is engaged in teaching. Dr. ROGERS was for many years a member of the North Presbyterian church.

Mrs. Candace Phelps ROGERS died at her late home in South Albion Sunday night, in her 83rd year. She was born May 31, 1812 and leaves six sons and one daughter, Mrs. Edward BOWEN. The sons are: Albert W., Alfred Henry, George P., Edward B., Dr. B. Frank, and Elmer. Mt. Albion Cemetery

The Reaper Death.
--- Mrs. U (Urban) C (Clark) ROGERS died on Sunday last after a painful
illness of several weeks. The
funeral was held yesterday and was very largely attended. The bereaved
husband and son have the sympathy of the community in their sorrow. Mrs.
ROGERS was a Christian lady of pleasant and sympathetic nature and her death
is sincerely mourned.

Death of Edson B. ROGERS
Edson B. ROGERS, one of the best known citizens of this
part of the county, died at his residence northeast of this village on Saturday
morning. He had been in failing health for a year past, but it was only
recently that it became known that he was afflicted with a valvular difficulty
of the heart which could not be cured. He suffered greatly for a few weeks
preceding his death, but he bore all courageously and resignedly.
The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. Dr. Walsworth. The bearers were E. B. Lattin, Gates Sherwood, A. K. Bacon, Wm. Rumsdale, H. B. Burleigh and H. H. Howland. The remains were taken to Mt. Albion Cemetery, and were followed thither by a long procession of mourning friends.
Mr. ROGERS was 57 years of age, and he leaves a wife and three children to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. Mr. ROGERS was a man in the highest sense of the word. He was unselfish in his disposition, charitable and kind to all men, quiet and unostentatious in his manner, frank and outspoken in his convictions, and one whose friendship was worth possessing. The large attendance at his funeral is the best evidence that he was universally beloved.

The funeral of Edward B. ROGERS was held at Mount Albion Cemetery chapel at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon. Mr. ROGERS was a former resident of this village and died at the home of his daughter in Rochester on Saturday, aged 71 years. Mr. ROGERS is survived by his wife, Mrs. Katherine HOUSER ROGERS; two daughters, Mrs. A. S. GILLOGLY and Irene ROGERS, of Rochester; two brothers, Dr. B. F. ROGERS of Buffalo, and Elmer ROGERS of Rochester.

Albion, February 11 -- The death of Mrs. Belle B. ROGERS [Emma Belle], aged 60 years, occurred Thursday at her home, No. 7 Ingersoll street. Mrs. ROGERS was the widow of the Cady ROGERS and leaves a daughter, Miss Dencie ROGERS, of Albion; a sister, Mrs. Isaac H. MARVIN, of Plainfield, N. J.; and two brothers, Albert H. BENTON, of Albion, and George BENTON, editor-in-chief of the American Book Company of New York city. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church here and for several years a teacher of a class in the Sunday school. The funeral service at the home took place Sunday afternoon. Rev. William J. Ford, pastor of the Baptist Church, officiated. Interment was in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

ROGERS, aged 26 years, 10 months and 21 days.
Deceased was born in Hudson,
N.Y. About nine years since she became a resident of Albion, where soon
after she was married to Henry A. ROGERS, who with the little ones left
behind and a large circle of relatives and friends now mourn her untimely
loss. For months she was a great sufferer, yet endured to the end, "as
seeing Him who is invisible." At an early age she made public profession
of faith by uniting with the Presbyterian church, and died in hope of the
first resurrection. "Blessed and holy are they who have part in the First
Ressurrection.". Her funeral was very largely attended Sunday afternoon
from the residence of E. B. ROGERS.

After an illness of three weeks, Mrs. Henry A. ROGERS died in Barre Center on Friday, aged 64 years. She was born in Barre and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee SMITH. She had been the Barre Center correspondent for the Republican several years.
Besides her husband she leaves two daughters, Mrs. Frank HOAG of Gaines and Mrs. Alice HANNAN of Barre; three sons, Arthur BALL of Albany, Chas. ROGERS of Plainfield, N.Y., and Edson ROGERS of Washington, D.C.

Death of Prominent Retired Farmer of Barre Center.
Albion, July 9. -- The death of George P. ROGERS, a prominent
retired farmer, occurred this afternoon at his home, in Barre Center,
after a long illness.
Mr. ROGERS was born in this village July 21, 1848, and was 65 years of age at the time of his death. In 1881 he moved from Albion to Barre, where he engaged in farming, which occupation he followed until several years ago, when he retired and moved to Barre Center. In politics he was a staunch Republican.
Mr. ROGERS leaves his wife, one daughter, Miss Nellie C. ROGERS; one son, Burton N. ROGERS, of Barre Center; one sister, Mrs. Edward J. BOWEN, of this village and four sons, Elmer E. ROGERS of Rochester; Edward B. ROGERS of this village, and Dr. B. F. ROGERS and Albert W. ROGERS, both of Buffalo.
The funeral service will be held from the home Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The Reverend Grant Merchant, pastor of the Barre Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be made in Mount Albion cemetery.

It is with sadness we chronicle the death of a long time resident of
Barre, George P. [Parker] ROGERS after six weeks prostration with

lived in this vicinity, and is survived by his wife, one daughter, and

It was very early April 10th, Easter morning, that Mrs. Harriett M. ROGERS, after a lingering sickness of many weeks, fell asleep in Jesus. She was born in Queensbury, this State, Feb. 25, 1827 was married Sept. 16, 1846, to C. T. BINGHAM, which union was blessed with five children, two only now remaining, and was widowed Aug, 17, 1861. In the fall of 1866 with her children she removed from New haven, Vt., to dwell among her relatives in Albion. In 1867, Nov. 8th, she was married to E. (Edson) B. ROGERS, from whom she was widowed July 23, 1880. Since this last sorrow, her home has been with her son, H. M. BINGHAM, a well known and respected citizen of our town. Mrs. ROGERS possessed a singularly cheerful and happy temperament, which sweetened with the Gospel of the grace of God made her society always very enjoyable as well as fruitful of only good. Her children have lost a loving and excellent mother; the church a faithful and consistent member; and her large cirlce of friends a true hearted and unselfish companion.

Rev. Lewis G. ROGERS, Former Pastor Here, Dies in New York, New York, Nov. 23 --- The Rev. Lewis G. ROGERS, 90, retired Congregational minister, and formerly, for many years, secretary of the old Federation of Churches of Buffalo, died Sunday in his home, 134 East 95th St.
He was born in Albion, and was graduated in 1883 from Williams College, after which he studied at Princeton Theological Seminary. He was pastor of Plymouth Congregational Church of Buffalo from 1904 to 1911, and then for three years was pastor of the Congregational Church of Storres, Conn., and chaplain of the University of Connecticut. He returned to Plymouth Church in Buffalo in 1914, and remained there until his retirement in 1943.
His wife, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth ROGERS; a son, Hartley, and two grandsons and a granddaughter survive. Funeral services were held this afternoon in the Campbell Funeral Home, Madison Ave. and 81st St. Burial will take place Thursday in Albion. -------------------------------------------------------- The Rev. Lewis G. ROGERS was the first minister of Plymouth Congregational Church , Amherst St. and Lincoln Pkwy., serving in 1908 when it was organized as an independent church. The present church was built under his leadership in 1924. When he went to Plymouth in
1904, the chapel was located at Military Rd and Grote St. He had been president of the Congregational ministers group of Western New York for more than 20 years. He was a past moderator of the Western New York Association of Congregational Churches and served as acting executive secretary of the Council of Churches of Buffalo & Erie County 1919-22.
Ordained in Arcade in 1888, he served the First Church of Evans, Derby, and the Arcade church before coming to Buffalo in 1901 as minister of Fitch Memorial Congregational Church. While there he also taught Latin in Nichols School.

NEW YORK, Dec. 28-- Services were held here today for Mrs. Lewis G. RODGERS, 90, active in church and women's club affairs in Buffalo for 40 years. She died Thursday in her home here. She was the widow of the Rev. Lewis G. RODGERS, minister of Plymouth Congregational Church, Buffalo, from 1904 to 1943 except for three years as chaplain of the University of Connecticut.
The former Mary Elizabeth HARTLEY, she was born in New Brunswick. She was a sister of the late Roland H. HARTLEY, Republican governor of Washington from 1923 to 1932. She was a graduate of the University of Minnesota and attended the University of Paris. She founded the Italian Department at Mt. Holyoke College and taught French and Greek there.
She was past president of the Buffalo City Federation of Womens's Clubs and of the Western New York Branch, Associated Collegiate Alumni. She was a member of the 20th Century Club of Buffalo and the League of American Penwomen.
Mr. and Mrs. ROGERS moved to New York City in 1944. Mr. RODGERS died in 1953 at the age of 90. Surviving are a son, Hartley RODGERS, three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Albion, Jan. 7. -- Miss Mary E. ROGERS, aged 42 years, a trained nurse, died Saturday in the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Belle ROGERS, on Ingersoll Street, this village. Miss ROGERS was born in this village and was a graduate nurse of the House of Mercy Training School for Nurses, at Pittsfield, Mass. She followed her profession for considerable time in Troy before returning to Albion to make her home. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church here and a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.[Urban] Clark ROGERS.

Death of Orlando ROGERS
One by one the old pioneers pass away from the scene of
their labors. Orlando ROGERS, one of the prominent pioneers of the town of
Gaines, died on Sunday last at his residence about two miles northeast of this
village, where he had resided for the past twenty years. The deceased was born
in Connecticut in November, 1801, and came to this county twelve years later.
The first farm he took up was that on which his son, U.C. ROGERS, now lives just
west of the village.
The funeral services were held at the family residence on yesterday. Mr. ROGERS leaves three sons -- U.(Urban) C., E.(Edson) B., and the Rev. L.(Lewis) B. ROGERS, all well-known citizens.

An Old Pioneer's Death
Mrs. Orlando ROGERS died on Wednesday last at the house of
her son, U.C. ROGERS, where she had made her home since the death of her
husband. She was 86 years of age and settled in this section in 1814, and was
at the time of her death probably the oldest continuous resident of the county.
She leaves two sons -- U.C. Rogers and Rev. L.B. ROGERS. Mrs. ROGERS was one of
the first memabers of the Presbyterian church, having united with the society
when it was first established.

Death of Mr. Urban Clark ROGERS
Word was received here on Monday announcing the death of Mr. U. Clark ROGERS,
which occurred at his late home in Patterson, N. J., on Monday, June 15th. His body
was brought here on Wednesday evening and the funeral will be held this afternoon at
1:30 o'clock, at the home of his son's widow, Mrs. Belle ROGERS, North Ingersoll street,
Rev. D. F. Pickard officiating. Mr. ROGERS was well known here among our older citizens;
was much respected by all who knew him. He owned and lived on the farm adjoining that
of Hon. John H. Denio, where now the Western House of Refuge is located. Deceased was a
former member and deacon of the Albion Presbyterian church.

Barre Center
The
funeral of Warren ROGERS took place at the home of his father, Henry A.
ROGERS, at 3 o'clock last Sunday, Revs. J. R. Adams and A. W. Ashley
officiating. Interment at
Mt. Albion Cemetery
. Aged 32 years. He had been employed in the Norfolk, Va., Navy Yard the past year, he and his wife living at Portsmouth. After an illness of two weeks with typhoid fever he passed away Thursday last, at the city hospital. Besides his wife and parents he is survived by one sister and two brothers and their families. An uncle, Wm ALBAUGH and wife, of Rochester were in attendance at the funeral. The floral offerings by Southern friends were beautiful. His death is lamented by a large circle of friends.

Charles C. ROLFE, an old and honored resident, died at his home on the South Lyndonville road, Monday morning, April 14. Funeral from his home on Wednesday, p. m. He leaves two sons, Charles J., of North Rose, and William J., who resides here. Three daughters, Jane M. KNOWLES, of Lockport, Margaret A. FULLER, of Lyndonville, and Edith L SCOFIELD, of Rochester. Two children, Fannie M., and George H., and also his wife, have gone on before. There are fourteen grandchildren, two having gone before, and sixteen great grand children.
Mr. ROLFE was born in Methold, Norfolk, England, on April 20, 1835. He came to America in a sailing vessel, which was eight weeks in making the voyage, from London to New York. He never adopted the modern, hurried method of living, but was easy and methodical in his habits, and had a refreshing way of recounting incidents in his life, from the time he was a barefoot farmer boy in his old English home, up to the present time. He had the great satisfaction of having his own children to minister to him in his last sickness.

Mrs. Fanny REYNOLDS ROLFFE, whose death occurred at her home east of Lyndonville, September 17th, was born in Botlon, England. Her father was an officer in the British army, serving his country in military expeditions in Africa. Of her family, of whom there were eight, only one is now living, a brother residing at Bergen. At the age of seventeen Miss REYNOLDS bade farewell to her native land and came to this country. After brief residences in Watertown and Rochester she came to Batavia where she met Charles ROLFFE, who like herself was a native of England and a member of the Church of England. Their wedding was celebrated in St. James rectory, Batavia, August 29, 1854, hence only three weeks ago they completed fifty years of happy wedded life. The family home has been in Lockport, County Line and vicinity, and for the past ten years at the present residence.
To Mr. and Mrs. ROLFFE were born seven children - Mrs. Jennie KNOWLES, of Lockport; George H. ROLFFE, of Albion; Mrs. Edith SCOFIELD, of Rochester; Mrs. Margaret FULLER, of Lyndonville; Charles ROLFFE, of Medina; William ROLFFE, who has remained with his parents. Miss Fanny ROLFFE, the second daughter, passed away twenty-eight years ago. All of the children, with fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild, were present at the funeral services, which were held in the Methodist Church Monday afternoon, Rev. Harry E. Miles and Rev. Lyman J. Muchmore officiating.

Former County Clerk George H. ROLFFE died late Friday evening at his home, aged 58 years. Born in Lyndonville, he served three years as Republican supervisor. Fourteen years ago he was elected county clerk of Orleans county, moved to Albion and served six years. He was trustee of the Baptist Church, member of Yates Lodge, 675, F. and A. M., of Lyndonville, and Medina Chapter, 281, Royal Arch Masons.
He leaves his wife, Delia C. (COE), one daughter, Mrs. George H. MILLER, of Washington, D. C. Deceased was a very estimable gentleman, reliable and upright in all his dealings.

WILLIAM J. WOLFE DIED THURSDAY IN LYNDONVILLE HOME
Lyndonville - William J. WOLFE, 79, died yesterday afternoon at his home on North Main Street.
Confined to his home for the past one and one-half years, he had been seriously ill for
two weeks.
Born in the towm of Yates March 25, 1868, he was the son of the late Charles and Fannie
REYNOLDS
ROLFE, and had resided in this vicinity practically his entire lifetime. In 1924 he was
married to Mrs. Martha HOUSEL FULLER.
Surviving are his wife; two step-daughters, Miss Marian FULLER, at home and Mrs. John SILL of Poughkeepsie; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret FULLER of Lyndonville, and Mrs. Giles SCOFIELD of Rochester; also several neices and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from the Smythe Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with Dr. J. Wesley Searls, president of the Lima Junior College officiating, assisted by Rev. Raymond H. Draffin, pastor of the Lyndonville Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.

A. Frank ROOK, 64, Passes after Illness of One Year
MEDINA. March 13.—After an Illness of more than a year, A. Frank ROOK, 64,
Ridgeway farmer, died at his home at 6 p. m. Saturday. Born near Lyndonville,
Rook had lived In the vicinity of Medina all his life with the exception of four
years spent in Michigan.
Surviving ROOK are his wife, two sons, Earl who has been traveling in Europe several years, and Kenneth at home; one sister, Mrs. James BUCKLAND, Grand Marias, Mich., and three brothers, Charles, Albion; William, Albion and Edgar G. ROOK, Medina. Services will be held at 226 Pearl street, Medina, at 2:30 p. m. today. Burial will be in West Ridgeway Cemetery. The Rev. William L. Findlay will officiate.

MEDINA MAN DIES
Byron R. ROOK Was Former Salesman for Friend Sprayer Co.
MEDINA, Feb. 14.—The funeral of Byron R. ROOK will take place Saturday at 2:30 o'clock,
at his late residence on the Swett road. He died Tuesday following an Illness beginning
In July, 1928, when he was operated on at the Rochester General hospital, having been
confined to his bed since about the middle of December.
He Is survived by three children, John B., Mrs. Nelson BATES and Miss Marion ROOK, all of Ridgeway; his father, John ROOK, of Medina; four brothers, J. Charles ROOK, Lyndonvllle, William O. Rook, Rochester; Almond Rook of Rldgeway: and Edgar J. Rook, of Medina; and one sister, Mrs. James BUCKLAND. Grand Marias, Mich. Deceased was a former salesman for the Friend Sprayer company of Oasport, and had in recent ye»rs conducted a large green house business here. He was a member of the Presbyterian church of Lyndonvllle and of the Medina branch of the Loyal Order of Moose. Interment will be In the Bates Road Cemetery.

Miss Hazel Erma ROOK, 48, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar J. ROOK, Sr., 516 Beach Drive, died early this morning at the Medina Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Born in Medina Jan. 4, 1902, she had resided here her entire lifetime. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Besides her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Victor RUMBLE of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Myron DONNOLLY of San Diego, Calif.; and five brothers, Victor and George of Medina, Stanley of Chillicothe, O., Dr. Francis ROOK of San Diego, and Lieut. Comm. Edgar J. ROOK, Jr., of Halifax, N. S.; also several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held from the Hartt Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock with the Rev. Edward Simpson officiating. Burial will be in Bates Road Cemetery.

Henry Rook, Medina, Dies
Medina, Dec. 19.—Henry ROOK, aged 73 years, died at his home, No. 108 Pearl street,
yesterday. He was born in England, but had resided In this country for many years. He
is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth VANAUKER of Ashwood; two sons,
Henry B. ROOK of Middleport and Robert ROOK of Medina, and two brothers, John ROOK of
Medina and Joseph ROOK of Michigan.
The funeral will be held from the home here on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Burial will be in the Bates Road Cemetery.

Mrs. Nellie Mabel ROOK, 79, of 816 S. Main St. died early yesterday morning at the Casey Nursing Home after a short illness. She was born in Millertown. Pa., Nov. 23, 1878. She was a member of the Bea Good Grandmothers Club.
Mrs. ROOK is survived by two sons, Maynard P. STINSON of Oregon Road and Kenneth R. ROOK of Ridge Road; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Edward STINSON of Medina; four grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Barnes-Tuttle Funeral Home, Pearl St., where the Rev. Reginald Cory will officiate at funeral services at 2 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in West Ridgeway Cemetery.

Mrs. Sarah Book (ROOK) of Medina Dies
MEDINA Oct. 19.—The death of Mrs. Sarah ROOK, wife of John ROOK, occurred at the home
of her son, Byron J. ROOK at noon Sunday, following a five weeks' illness. The deceased
was 82 years of age. She was born in England and came to ths country at the age of
25 years. For the past 52 years she has been a resident of the Town of Ridgeway and
the Village of Medina. She was a member of the First Presbyterlan Church of this place.
Besides her husband she Is survived by one daughter, Mrs. James BUCKLAND of Grand
Marais, Mich., and five sons, Charles of Grand Marais, Mich., William O., of Rochester,
and Frank, Edgar and Byron of the Town of Ridgeway.
Funeral services will be he'd from the home of her son, Byron ROOK, on the Swett road, on Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The Rev. William L. Findlay of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be at the Bates Road Cemetery.

Victor ROOK, 25 Claim Examiner, Dies In Middleport
MIDDLEPORT - A claim examiner in the Lockport Office of the New York State Department of Labor for
the past 15 years, Victor C. ROOK, 52, died of an apparent heart attack Sunday (July 30, 1961) at his
home, 71 State St., Middleport.
Mr. ROOK was born July 3, 1909, in Medina, the son of Edgar and Bertha BALE ROOK. He was a member of
Medina Lodge 336,F&AM Lincoln Post, 1483, VFW of Medina. Medina Moose Lodge 789 and Medina Presbyterian
Church.
He had resided in Medina until he came to Middleport six years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine: a son, Robert of Middleport; a daughter, Mrs. Richard ODDO of Batavia; four brothers, George of Medina, Stanley of Chillicothe, Ohio; Francis and Edgar, both of San Diego. Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Victor RUMBLE of Altadena, Calif., and Mrs. Myron DONLEY of San Diego; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 at the Wallace & Heath Funeral Home Inc., 38 State St., Middleport, where services will be held at 11 Wednesday morning. The Rev. Clinton E. Kinney, pastor of the Medina Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Bates Road Cemetery, Medina.

While friends were preparing for burial the body of Mrs. A. S. J. ROOT, of West Kendall, who died from coal gas asphyxiation, queer noises were heard in the adjoining house. An investigation revealed that George SIPPEL, an aged resident, was suffering from terrible pains in the stomach. He died an hour afterward.

Lyndonville - Mrs. Bertha STROYAN ROOT, 63, died in Medina Memorial Hospital yesterday after a long illness. She was born June 17, 1891, the daughter of Willett and Nora WOODWORTH in Lyndonville, and she was the widow of the late Lowell STROYAN, who died in 1947. In 1950 she was married to Fred ROOT of Derby, N. Y.
Mrs. Root was a member of Lyndonville Methodist Church and is survived by her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Ray WARNE of Lyndonville; also four brothers, Leo, Elwyn, Ivan and Leroy WODWORTH, all of Lyndonville. Also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in the Smythe Funeral Home, Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Donald M. Peck of the Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.

In the early morning of No. 8, 1881, Clara Janette, (died) with spasmodic croup, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.O. ROOT, Knowlesville, N.Y. Little Etta was but 4 years of age, a child of unusual sweetness of character and womanly traits for one so young and had, all unknown to herself, (as to how) won a host of little, as well as larger friends. During her brief illness, of less than three days, she constantly exhibited patience, often amid great suffering, which was rare indeed.
Thus dropped another bud on earth, with petals just unfolding unto a rare blossoming, but was borne to a more congenial clime, for in heaven “where there is no night,” growth of character must be more rapid and perfect than earth can promise, hence “it is gain to die.” So early another lamb was gathered unto the “upper fold.”
Mr. and Mrs. ROOT have the sympathy of many friends, in their great loss, as also little Edith, their only surviving child, for theirs was an almost unseparable companionship. They tender their sincerest thanks to their many friends for the kind offices and attentions which flowed in upon them, in the hours of their affliction. Mrs. ROOT, as the correspondent of The Tribune, under the non de plume of “Verde” will be recognized, by a wide circle of readers, who have stood in the shadow of similar sorrow.
The funeral services were held at the family residence and conducted by their pastor, Rev. Wm.
Macbeth assisted by Rev's. Messrs. Langilie and Requa, Pastors at the Baptist and M.E. Church; at
which also the following appropriate and appreciative poem was read by Dr. H.C. Tompkins, the family
physician, written by him for the occasion.

The death of Dan ROOT, Jr., occurred Saturday morning at the Newport Naval Hospital, R. I., after a short illness of pneumonia. He is survived by his wife and one son, Robert; his mother and father, and two brothers, Charles and Arnold. Deceased had entered the naval service and was on duty when taken ill.

Daniel S. ROOT, aged 76 years, died Friday morning at his home on West Avenue, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Charles, of Oklahoma and Arnold, of Shelby. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon. Burial was in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Frank ROOT, formerly of Waterport and Charlotte, died in Springville Thursday evening, October 16. Funeral services were held in that village last Saturday. Mr. ROOT was born on the Gaines-Waterport Road and for many years was an engineer of the Ontario division of the New York Central Rome-Watertown branch which operates through the county north of here.

Death which called Gerald R. ROOT April 20th, at the age of 25 years was a severe shock to his immediate family and many devoted friends. Born in West Barre, N.Y. in 1899, this young man has proven himself a most noble and likeable character through his young years of earthly existence. Receiving the early part of his education in the Albion Public Schools, later taking a business course at the Rochester Business Institute.
Mr. Root at the time of his death was located in Westfield, N. J. in the employ of the International Insurance Company with headquarters at New York City. Out of 250 men employees Mr. Root ranked 3rd in salesmanship ability. A record for any young man to be proud of.
He is survived by his father Mr. Charles ROOT of Woodward, Oklahoma and one brother Mr. Herald ROOT of Albion, N. Y., also an uncle Arnold ROOT of Millville, N. Y. Funeral services were held from the home of his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Daniel ROOT of West Avenue Thursday afternoon April 24th. Internment at Mt. Albion Cemetery, Albion, N.Y. The Community at large and his many close friends extend to this young man’s family their deepest sympathy.

Millville - Death has again entered this community and taken two old residents, ..........Thursday, the 19th, Jonathan L. ROOT departed this life. He had been failing for several years, but still kept about, although at times he could not walk without the aid of crutches and an attendant to support him. He was at the village only a few days before he died; but at last life went out like the going out of a candle. He came from Massachusetts, his native state, in 1840, and settled on the place where he has ever since lived and where he died at the age of sixty-nine. The funeral was attended at the brick church on Sunday. Rev. C. W. Drake, the acting pastor, preached a discourse from Isa, 64:6 "We do all fade as a leaf." He drew a very interesting lesson of life, after which he made some remarks with reference to the life and character of the deceased, and closed by reading the first five verses of the seventh chapter of Luke.
………On Monday morning, the 23d, we were surprised to hear of the death of Matthew GREGORY, aged 82. He too had been for some time out of health, but was able to be about the street. He lived alone and took care of his own home, since the death of his wife about six months since. He was taken worse last week Tuesday, when his grand-daughter, Mrs. Charles POTTER, came to care for him. On Thursday she took him home with her, after which he ran down rapidly until Monday morning when he went to occupy the mansion prepared for him. Mr. GREGORY came to this town with his father in the spring of 1815, since which time he has lived at Millville. He was the youngest of six brothers, all of whom lived until about twelve years since, and now, by the death of Matthew, Ralph is the only surviving one, and he has passed his four score years. The deceased was for many years Deacon of the Presbyterian church, and for quite a number of years a Justice of the Peace for the town of Shelby. Several years since he was the local correspondent from this place for the Medina Tribune, and more recently for the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. The funeral will be from the house of Mr. POTTER Wednesday at 11 o’clock a. m. ……..
Both of the above men were prominent in originating and beautifying the Millville cemetery; the former as Trustee and the latter as Secretary. And now the mortal remains of both are to lie side by side in the vault until the frost is out of the ground sufficiently to admit of digging their graves.

Levi F. ROOT, died suddenly at his home in Canton, Pa., on June 4th. He was born in the Town of Albion, the son of the late Floyd and Henrietta KENDALL ROOT.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Edith ROOT; two sisters, Mrs. Alma CUTTS, Eagle Harbor; Mrs. Gertrude SMYTHE, Albion; one brother, John H. ROOT, Cleveland, Ohio; nieces and nephews.

Orpheus A. ROOT died Monday night at residence of his son, Daniel ROOT, in the town of Barre, aged 80 years. Mr. ROOT was Supervisor of the town of Barre for three terms. For the last thirty years he had lived in Albion.

Mrs. Charles G. ROOT died at the home of her husband in Woodward, Okla. Saturday evening after an illness of heart trouble which had assumed a critical stage only five hours before, aged 32 years. Mrs. ROOT was born, (Miss Rene KEMPTON) in West Barre, but since her marriage has lived in the west where her husband, who is the oldest son of Dan ROOT, of this place, is in business. Mrs. ROOT's parents (Martin & Lottie KEMPTON) are dead, the surviving family consisting of her husband, two sons, aged respectively 12 and 14 years, and one sister Miss Mary KEMPTON of Rochester.
The body was brought to Albion yesterday for burial and the funeral service was held in Mt. Albion Chapel this afternoon at three o 'clock.

Death of a Pioneer ROOT died in the town of Yates, Sept. 10, 1875, REUBEN ROOT, aged 82 years.
Mr. ROOT was the oldest pioneer settler in Orleans County, having resided here since April, 1804. Mr. ROOT's father settled on the shore of Lake Ontario, in the town of Carlton, when only two or three other families were living in the County. They had come in in boats, coasting along the south shore of the lake, settling near the mouths of Oak Orchard and Johnsons Creek. The country road was then covered with a dense forest., the nearest settlement of white men being at Niagara River.
For several years Mr. ROOT's family subsisted on fish, venison, bear, raccoon, and hedgehog, which were abundant, and corn meal pounded by hand. They made their shoes from skins of their own tanning, and their clothing from skins and hemp raised by themselves. The country was so infested by bears and wolves they could keep no domestic animals.
After the war with Great Britain, in which he served a short time, and was at the taking of Fort Erie, Mr. Reuben ROOT sailed a vessel on the lake several years; the remainder of his life he was a farmer. He had experienced all the difficulties, hardships and discouragements which beset the early settlers, and few men could tell more incidents of adventure in that direction than he. The only road in the county when he came was the trail of the Indian, and no plow had turned a furrow. For several years he had been recognized as the oldest pioneer, and worn the medal of The Orleans County Pioneer Association. He lived a good example of the industry, energy and perseverance of the men who established settlements here, and enjoyed the success which has made Western New York all the most sanguine settler dared to hope it would be.
The Pioneer Association, his numerous friends and acquaintances, and his bereaved family mourn his death, and will long cherish his memory with profound respect.

Death of Thomas ROOT
Thomas ROOT, one of the best known pioneer residents of Gaines, died
Wednesday morning of last week at the family home, two miles north of Gaines
village. Mr. ROOT was 78 years old. He was born in the town of Yates., June 24,
1832, and lived on the farm where he died, 53 years. Mr. ROOT was a member of
the Congregational church in Gaines, the Orleans County Pioneers Association,
and was an Independent Republican in politics.
He is survived by his widow (Joanna FULLER), three sons, Reuben of Buffalo, Frank of Lyndonville and Lewis of Carlton Station., also one sister, Mrs. Eliza J. Harris, of Kuckville. The funeral was held from the family home, Saturday afternoon at 1:30, Rev. C. H. Burroughs officiating. Interment was made in the Fuller burial grounds in Carlton.

The death of Melvin H. RORABACK, 65, occurred at the McMann Hotel, Albion, Tuesday morning. Born in Childs March 23rd 1877, he lived the greater part of his life in Eagle Harbor. He leaves one brother, Frank RORABACK of Tonawanda; and several nieces and nephews. Edward FOREMAN and Melvin FOREMAN of Medina are nephews od the deceased.
Funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from McNall's Funeral Home, Albion, with burial at Mt. Albion Cemetery

Word was received here yesterday that the body of Miss Nellie A. RORABACK, who died in Kansas City, Mo., Tuesday, Feb. 10, is being sent here for burial. The telegram stated funeral arrangements will be made later. The body will be taken to the mortuary at 10 East State street.

Kenneth Charles RORICK, 41, died suddenly yesterday afternoonas the reult of a heart attack suffered at Washington, Penn. shortly after he arrived in that city with the Carl Ferris Trucking Company, with whom he had been employed for the past several years.
Born in the Town of Ridgeway October 11, 1907, he was the son of Frank RORICK and the late Emma GARNER RORICK. Mr. RORICK has lived in this vicinity practically all his life. He was a charter member of the F.O.E. Orleans Aerie.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Helen BICKLE RORICK; his father, Frank RORICK; and two sisters, Mrs. Maynard STINSON, all of Medina and Miss Adrian RORICK of New York City; besides several nieces and nephews.
The body will arrive in Medina tonight and will be taken to the Thibault Funeral Home, South Main Street, from where funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Ralph D. Ross of the First Baptist Church will officiate and burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery. (Error - Interment took place in Bates Road Cemetery)

The death of Fred RORICK, 71, of Oak-Orchard-on-the-Ridge occurred suddenly late last night at his home there, the result of a heart attack. In apparently good health of late, RORICK was taken ill suddenly earlier in the evening and died after returning home.
Born on September 11, 1878, RORICK had lived in the Oak Orchard community all his life, and operated both a farm and gravel pit in the secion(sic). His father was the late Charles RORICK, and his mother, the late Clara ODERKIRK RORICK. He attended the First Baptist Church, Albion.
He is survived by his wife, Clara HALL RORICK (2nd wife); one daughter, Mrs. Robert MESLER; and a son, Donald, all of Oak Orchard-on-theRidge, and a brother, Frank, of Winter Park, Florida.
Friends are to be received at the Hartt Funeral Home, Pearl Street, from where funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m., the Rev. William NIXON of the First Baptist Church, Albion officiating. Burial will be in Bates Road Cemetery.

Albion-Mrs. Adeline ROSATO, 62, died in Arnold Gregory Memorial Hospital yesterday (Sept. 3, 1948) Funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday in the McNall Funeral Home at 158 S Main St. and at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Charles COMETA of Albion, and a son, Joseph ROSATO of Lyndonville; three brothers, Louis MONACELLI, Guido MONACELLI, and Frank MONACELLI of Albion; and three sisters, Mrs. Susie SPADE and Mrs. Mary NENNI of Albion and Mrs. Florence PAPPONETTI of Italy. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and its Rosary Society.

David ROSE, formerly a resident of Medina, died recently at the Soldiers' Home in Bath. The body was brought to Medina for interment.

Will Return Body Of Medina Soldier For Burial Here
The body of Pvt. John ROSENBECK, 27, who was killed in action in Normandy on July 18,
will be brought to the home of his sister, Mrs. Stella ZANDROWICZ, 297 Rother Avenue,
Buffalo, for burial, negotiations for which are now being made with the government.
Born in Medina March 21, 1917, the young Infantryman was the son of Edward ROSENBECK of Fletcher Chapel, and the late Mrs. (Anna) ROSENBECK, who died thirteen years ago. He enlisted in the Army in 1940, receiving his training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Camp Forrest, Tenn., Texas, South Carolina, and Los Angeles, Calif., before going overseas in November 1943. He drove a truck in the Infantry.
His last letter was written on June 13 to his sister, in which he said everything is swell here. I go to church every Sunday. While writing this letter I think of coming back, and it won’t be long when this will be over. He said he had enough of everything, including cigarettes, etc. Anxious to fight for his country, Private Rosenbeck often said, "I want to be a hero, but not a dead hero". He recently sent home some money with which to decorate graves of his mother and young brother, who was accidentally killed last spring, both of whom are buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Mrs. Theodora MACIEKIAWICZ ROSENBECK, widow of Michael ROSENBECK, died last evening at her home, 168 Elizabeth street. Born in Poland, Mrs. ROSENBECK has lived in Medina for the past twenty-four years.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Celia HUSARAK of Buffalo; six sons, Edward, Joseph, and Walter ROSENBECK of Medina, Pvt. Thomas ROSENBECK, with the U. S. Army, stationed somewhere in England, and Pfc. Ignatius ROSENBECK, stationed in New Mexico, and William ROSENBECK of California; two brothers, Thomas and Julian MACIEKIAWICZ of Buffalo; and several grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 8:30 from her late home, and at 9 o’clock in Sacred Heart Church, with Rev. Max T. Bogacki officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart. (No record of this burial)

The death of Mrs. Mildred Porter ROSENKRANS, 54, wife of Edmund C. ROSENKRANS, active in Medina in civic and church work, occurred in her 1304 West Avenue residence last night. Death followed a long illness.
Born in Dundee, N.Y., July 17, 1898, her parents were John and Carrie WHEELER PORTER. Mrs. ROSENKRANS was graduated from Dundee High School and received her bachelor of science degree from Syracuse University, graduating in 1921 after majoring in home economics. She was a member of Alpha Chapter, Alpha Phi sorority, the First Baptist Church of Medina and a past president of the Medina Tuesday Club.
She was married to Edmund ROSENKRANS, July 17, 1922, and they took up their residence in Buffalo, later going to Rochester where they lived for 14 years. They came to Medina in 1937 where they purchased the pharmacy which they have operated since that time. Mrs. ROSENKRANS was interested in Girl Scout work and organized the first troop in Medina. She continued her interest in the work for a number of years.
Surviving in addition to her husband and parents, are a daughter, Mrs. Julia ROSENKRANS WASHBURN of Rochester; a son, John C. ROSENKRANS of Farmington, Mich.; five grandchildren, Robert John, Jane and Ruth ROSENKRANS of Farmington and Thomas Edmund and Jean WASHBURN of Rochester; two aunts, Mrs. Adelaide BLACKHURST, San Bernandino, Calif., and Mrs. Lillian CUSHMAN of Red Creek.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, at 2 p. m. in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ralph ROSS officiating, and to which friends and acquaintances are invited. It was the expressed desire of Mrs. ROSENKRANS not to send flowers. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Orleans County Girl Scout Council or to the National Cancer Society.

Mrs. Almira ROSS, widow of the late Moses ROSS, died at her home in SheIby last Thursday morning, January 20, 1916. Mrs. Ross was born at Spafford, Onondaga County, N. Y., March 22, 1830. She is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Mary MALCOLM, of Sodus, N. Y., Mrs. Ella STANTON, of Niles, Mich., Mrs. Kittie SANDEL, of Buffalo, and Mrs. Eliza HOOD, Mrs. Carrie SOWL and Mrs. Hattie MATTHEWS, of Shelby; two sons, Daniel W. and Stephen T., of Shelby; two sisters, Mrs. Ellen FORBUSH, of Moshierville, Mich., and Mrs. Lucinda EVANS of Medina, one brother Samuel WHITING of East Shelby. There are also 18 grandchildren, 17 greatgrandchildren and one great great grandchild living.
The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon at her late home, Rev. Mr. Harris, of the Medina Methodist Church officiating. Interment in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, West Shelby.

Mrs. Amy BROWN ROSS, widow of the late James H. ROSS, passed away on Monday last at her home on South Main street. Deceased was in the 88th year of her age, having been born in Waterport, N. Y., in 1832. Removing to Medina with her parents in 1848, nearly all her life had been passed in this town, where she has ever been highly esteemed. She is survived by one son, James Harvey ROSS. The funeral occurred yesterday afternoon, Rev. Walter Foss and Rev. Gilbert A. Shaw officiating. The interment was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, West Shelby.

Miss Anna ROSS, a highly respected and well known resident of this village (Lyndonville), died at her home Saturday morning, December 27, following a week’s illness, the result of a stroke. Miss ROSS was born in Somerset March 3, 1860, and moved with her parents to Lyndonville about 50 years ago. For many years, she was organist in the Presbyterian church. She was an active member of the King’s Daughters.
She leaves four brothers, William, and John at home, Sanderson A., and Daniel W., of Medina. The funeral service was held on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. W. A. Herzog, officiating. Burial was in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Mrs. Harriett D. ROSS, 81, wife of J. (James) Harvey ROSS, died at the Criswell Nursing Home, West Center Street, last night. Mr. and Mrs. ROSS have both been residents of the Criswell Home. The couple would have been married 61 years on April 4. For many years Mr. Ross operated a sporting goods store at the corner of South Main and Starr Street.
Born in Shelby July 30, 1868, Mrs. ROSS was the daughter of the late Matthew and Arillia GENAU MYHILL, and had lived in Medina for the past 61 years. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Louie NEAL; and one son, James ROSS, both of Medina; also three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Friends will call at the Hartt Funeral Home, Pearl Street, from where funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. The Rev. John Wilkinson, rector of St. John’s Church, will officiate, and burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, West Shelby.

James H. ROSS died at his home, No. 701 South Main street, on Tuesday. He was born in Schenectady in 1828. When a boy he came to the town of Shelby, from which place he moved to Medina, when a young man, where he had since resided. Mr. ROSS was married in 1860 to Miss Amy P. BROWN, who, with one son, Harvey J. ROSS, of this place, survives. The funeral will be held from the home this (Thursday) afternoon, the Rev. Dr. Milman officiating.

Another of the aged and respected citizens of the town of Shelby, has recently passed away. Mr. Joseph ROSS, aged 73 years, died at his residence south-east of the Center, on Monday morning, December 23d. He was afflicted, more or less acutely for full seventeen years past. In the summer of 1855 he took a severe cold which was relieved for the time, but, in the fall, developed into Chronic Asthma. His life was despaired of even then, and, in fact, he never recovered from this undermining of his once powerful constitution. Of late years he was very feeble, though little confined to his bed. The very day before his death he sat up for hours and seemed quite cheerful. He chatted freely with his nephew, Mr. James ROSS, of Ogden, who had come to see him. About midnight he grew worse and the end drew rapidly near. His death was peaceful as the slumber of an infant.
Mr. R. and two other brothers came with their Parents from New Hampshire, and settled in this neighborhood as early as 1818. The site of the old homestead is about half a mile south of Mr. R's. farm. In 1822 the subject of this notice was married to Christina, a daughter of Mr. William WORTHRING, father of Mr. Daniel WORTHRING who still occupies the paternal home. For little over fifty years did Mr. and Mrs. ROSS share each other's joys and sorrows on this earthly sojourn. Their only child, Mr. Stephen D. ROSS, is an esteemed citizen in our midst, and has the honor to minister to the comfort of his now widowed mother.
On Wednesday the 25th, a very large number of relatives and a great many friends attended the funeral. The services were held in the Brick Church and the body interred in the cemetery adjourning. Rev. E. Edwards officiated on the occasion, taking for his text, Phil. 3:20, 21. The preacher dwelt upon the Savior’s care for “our vile bodies” and His purpose to form these into the likeness of His glorious body.” A writer on “The Remains of Horace Greeley" has seen fit to speak thus disparagingly of a man’s “remains:" “For what are ‘remains?' ‘Tis the soul that we love, And the Soul has passed on to the kingdom of God."
The scripture teaching is that the “remains” of Christ’s followers are considered by Him worthy of the Glorious Resurrection which He is pledged to effect in their behalf. The day was exceedingly winterly, and the thought of ‘despositing' a loved one “in the cold, cold ground” might seem forbidding, yet, in view or what He, whose advent Christmas day is set apart to commemorate, will finally work out of this death and burial one may well say with Henry Ward Beecher, in his address at the funeral of the great and good Horace Greeley: “Oh, how sweet the way that leads to the grave, when the grave is God's golden gate to immortality." Yes, since there is “glory, honor, and immortality" -- not for the soul only, but for the body also we may say "blessed are the dead that die in the Lord." E. Shelby Center.

Mrs. Stephen T. ROSS, aged 76 years, of Shelby Center, passed away Monday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. M. BREWER, of West Avenue, after a long illness. She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. BREWER, and one grandson, Lester BREWER. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 from the home of her daughter. Burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Lettie MILLER ROTH, 41, died suddenly in the Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, last Thursday, Dec. 11. Because of the children being quarantined for scarlet fever, private funeral services were held at the grave at Otter Creek Cemetery, Saturday morning at 10 o’clock. The Rev. Ward B. Hurlburt of the Baptist church here, officiated. Besides her husband, Fred ROTH, Mrs. ROTH leaves six sons and two daughters, Leon of Churchville, Fred Jr., Ridgeway, Leslie, Arnold, Robert, Paul, Helen and Patricia, at home; three grandchildren, two brothers, Charles MILLER of Albion and Everett of Medina; two sisters, Mrs. Florence SMITH, Carlton, and Mrs. Henry GARROD of West Ridge Road, and several nieces and nephews.
The community was shocked Thursday, to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. Fred ROTH in the Strong Memorial Hospital after a very short illness. Burial was in the Otter Creek Cemetery where the funeral took place Saturday morning. Mrs. ROTH was the former Lettie MILLER. She leaves two daughters, Helen and Patricia at home; six sons, Leon of Churchville, Fred Jr. of Medina, Lester, Arnold, Robert and Paul at home; two sisters, Mrs. Florence SMITH of Kent and Mrs. Henry GARROD of Albion; two brothers, Everett MILLER of Medina and Charles MILLER of Albion, and grandchildren. We extend our sympathy to Mr. ROTH and family.
This community was greatly shocked last week by the death of Mrs. Fred ROTH. Although Mrs. ROTH was stricken ill Sunday, she was taken to the Strong Memorial Hospital Thursday, where she passed away from double pneumonia soon after arrival there. The family being under quarantine for scarlet fever, few knew of her serious illness. Mr. ROTH and the children have the sincere sympathy of the community and a loss of their beloved wife and mother......Bobby, Patricia and Paul ROTH, who have been very ill with scarlet fever, are recovering nicely......Mrs. Leon ROTH of Churchville is staying with Mr. Fred ROTH and family since Mrs. ROTH’s death.

Double funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Thibault Funeral Home, South Main Street, for the two young Roush sisters who were tragically burned to death in the bedroom of their home, 206 N. Main St. Saturday morning. The victims were Dora Mae ROUSH, 8, and Evelyn LaRue ROUSH, 6. Their brother, Roger ROUSH, 11, suffered third degree burns about the shoulders, arms and feet, and is in the Medina Memorial Hospital, where his condition today was described as 'fairly good'.
Also treated for cuts, burns and bruises were the parents, Mr. and Mrs. John ROUSH, their 15-months old daughter, Mary Theda, and Roy PIERCE, brother of Mrs. ROUSH. They were released after treatment at the hospital.
Fire was discovered at approximately 5 a. m. and is thought to have originated in the living room from an oil burner heater. The Medina Fire Department was called by a nearby alarm box which was sounded by Roger after vain attempts to arouse neighbors. The boy and Mr. Pierce, 21, had jumped from an upstairs window of the room where the two girls were trapped. Roger had attempted to drag the older child from the bed to help her to safety, but in the smoke and heat had lost hold of her, according to Fire Chief Ralph Whiting. Her body was found on the floor, while the younger girl’s charred form was still in the bed.
Sleeping in the downstairs bedroom of the home were the parents and baby. Mrs. ROUSH, 31, told Chief WHITING that she was awakened by smoke, and attempted to go into the kitchen, which was filled with smoke. She said the front of the house was filled with flames and smoke and she returned to the bedroom to arouse her husband, John ROUSH, 32. They broke a window and escaped with the baby who was nearly overcome by the smoke. Dazed and also nearly overcome by smoke after their escape they were taken into the home of a neighbor where first aid was administered to the baby.
Flames were leaping from every room in the house when the fire department arrived and when the neighbors had been aroused. In spite of the high winds, the department succededed in extinguishing the fire after the entire interior had been gutted. They succeeded in saving neighboring buildings which are at close proximity. The south side of the Michael CALANDRA home, next to the burning building, was considerably charred. The department averted a much more serious fire in the entire neighborhood, remaining at the scene until 10 a. m. They had the blaze under control, however in half an hour.
The family had moved to the North Main Street residence in September from the Portage Road. Mr. ROUSH is employed in the kitchen at the H. J. Heinz Company, where he has worked for the past two years. Mr. PIERCE has been employed at the Medina Iron and Brass as a ladel liner since Jan. 10. The building is owned by Camille LOPINOT, 100 Eagle Street and adjoins a brick building housing a second-hand store operated by William NICHOLS. Furnishings, clothing, and all possessions of the ROUSH family were lost in the fire. The family has been taken into the home of friends, Mr. and Mrs. Ross COOLAW, 335 South Avenue. Clothing and bedding are being accepted by the Medina Chapter Red Cross for the family. According to Miss Inez REYNOLDS, Roger wears size 14; his father, size 38 coat and 30 trousers; and Mr. PIERCE, 36 coat and 29 trousers. Medina Lodge of Elks and Medina Lodge of Moose have assisted the family and other organizations have indicated their desire to help. Assisting in gathering furnishings for the stricken group is the H. J. Heinz Co. which has also made provisions for food. Also assisting is the Baptist Church, of which the family are members.
Surviving the sisters, besides their immediate family, are their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James KEPHART and Mr. and Mrs. John ROUSH, all of Punxatawny, Pa. Officiating at funeral services Tuesday afternoon will be the Rev. Ralph D. ROSS, pastor of the Baptist Church. Members of the Baptist Boy Scout Troop will act as bearers and burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery.

Died, Thursday evening, April 7th; at the family residence at Johnson’s Creek, Emma Winifred ROWE, aged sixteen years, second and youngest daughter, of James and Myra ROWE. The deceased was a bright and promising young girl, just budding into a beautiful womanhood for which high hopes and aspirations were entertained, and every available opportunity would have been afforded her. She was a pupil of the Medina High School, where she made rapid progress in her studies and was a favorite with all. While at home for a short vacation she was stricken with disease, and in one short week passed on to the higher life.
The funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon, April 10th, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Mr. Spaulding, assisted by Rev. Mr. Gross. Interment in Skeels cemetery. The floral gifts of loving friends were abundant and beautiful, conspicuous among them being a bouquet of Easter lilies from the Medina High School, where she attended.

BODY BROUGHT TO ALBION
Albion, June 1, The body of George L. ROWE was brought to this village (Albion,) yesterday and buried in Mt. Albion Cemetery this afternoon. Mr. ROWE died in Rochester Sunday afternoon (30 May 1909), aged 87 years. He was formerly a resident of Albion and has three nieces still living here.

The death of Everett A. ROWLEY, native of Orleans County, occurred last week in a Batavia hospital. Born 69 years ago in Carlton, a son of Albert and Frances WENDELL ROWLEY, he had resided in the Town of Alabama for 30 years. He was a leader in Republican affairs in Genesee County and member of the board of supervisors for ten years. On Dec. 25, 1892, he married May MILLER of Waterport, who survives.

George Austin ROWLEY, aged six years, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Irving G. ROWLEY, died on Saturday last, after several week's illness. Every effort which medical skill could devise proved of no avail in the instance. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of hosts of friends. George ROWLEY, who resided on the Forbes farm in Kendall, died Sunday at the General hospital, Rochester, following injuries sustained when kicked by a horse ten days ago. He was 29 years of age.

George W. ROWLEY, one of Orleans County’s oldest residents, passed away Sunday morning, at the age of 82 years.
Mr. Rowley suffered a severe attack of pneumonia in December at Miami, Florida, where he and his wife were spending the winter. He was taken to Dr. Gowdy’s Private Hospital, where he received the best of care. He finally convalesced sufficiently to be out and enjoy the sunshine. He was able to take several automobile trips and was apparently becoming quite well again. Mr and Mrs. ROWLEY, accompanied by Mrs. A. G. Austin, left Miami, for home April 22nd. While waiting for their connection at Washington he fell, striking a severe blow upon his face and head. He was confined to his bed since his arrival home with congestion of the brain. His condition grew worse and he finally passed away early Sunday morning.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Alice (WELSH) ROWLEY, and two sons, Harmon J. ROWLEY of Lyndonville and I. G. ROWLEY of Medina. Funeral services will be held at 3 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the residence, 709 West Avenue, and the Rev. F. T. Latham will officiate. Interment in the family lot at Boxwood Cemetery.

The large attendance and beautiful floral offerings manifested the high esteem in which he was held. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Alice Rowley, and two sons, Harmon J. ROWLEY of Lyndonville and I. G. ROWLEY of Medina; two sisters, Mrs. Anna M. PARKER and Lucinda ROWLEY of Medina and two brothers, Elmer ROWLEY of Lyndonville and Emmet ROWLEY of Oakland, California.
The bearers were A. J. Coe, W. W. Snell, John Barber, Eugene Walsh of Medina and Frank Plummer and B. M. Beecher of Lyndonville. The out of town relatives who attended the services were Elmer and Ernest ROWLEY of Lyndonville, Katherine and Fred ROWLEY of Gaines, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. ROWLEY and Walter ROWLEY of Albion, Mrs. Carrie SEWARD of Gaines, Byron SHERWOOD of Eagle Harbor, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin SMITH, Mrs. Otto, and Mr. and Mrs. Allen DAVENPORT of Lockport. Interment was in the family lot at Boxwood Cemetery.

Lyndonville - Funeral services will be held in the Smythe Funeral Home here Saturday at 2 p. m. for the late Harmon J. ROWLEY, 69, whose death occurred in the Strong Memorial Hospital yesterday following several days of serious illness. The Rev. R.H. Draffin, pastor of the Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery, Medina.
Born in the Town of Yates October 29, 1880, his parents were the late George and Alice WELCH ROWLEY. He had been a lifelong resident of this village and vicinity where he had taken an active interest in civic affairs. He was owner and manager of the Lyndonville Ice & Cold Storage Company and of farms in the township, which he operated. He was a member of Yates Lodge F. & A. M., Medina Chapter R.A.M., Alph Omega Council R. & S. M., Genesee Commandery and Ismalia Temple Shrine, Medina Lodge of Elks and several social and business organizations.

The family of George W. ROWLEY, of Medina, have the heartfelt sympathy of the community in the loss of their eldest son, Lou ROWLEY, who died so suddenly last week. He was a worthy young man, esteemed by all who knew him. He had many friends in Lyndonville school, where he formerly attended, as well as in Medina Academy. His funeral was largely at the M. E. Church in Medina, on Saturday and internment took place in Lynhaven cemetery* in this place. A lavish contribution of flowers was made by many friends. Medina school contributed a beautiful floral representation of "Gates Ajar," and Lyndonville school a floral pillow, "At Rest," and decorated the grave with evergreens and flowers and attended the burial in a body, manifesting much feeling while taking a last view of their young companion and friend. Second Clipping: The funeral service over the remains of Lou ROWLEY, son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. ROWLEY, whose death was mentioned in our last issue were held at the M. E. Church in this place Saturday afternoon. The pupils in the academic department of the Central school attended in a body and contributed a beautiful floral offering, "Gates Ajar," as a token of the esteem in which their classmate was held by them. Rev. R. E. Rockwell preached a very appropriate sermon and spoke kind words of comfort to the sorrowing relatives and friends of the deceased. The remains were taken to Lyndonville for internment in Lynhaven cemetery*. The casket was opened at the grave in order that his former friends and classmates, who had previously lined his grave with beautiful flowers, might gaze for the last time on earth upon the face of their companion they had learned to love and respect. Revs. Messrs. Dean and Dobson, of Lyndonville, assisted Rev. Mr. Rockwell in conducting the services at the grave.
* The obituary states that Lou was buried in Lynhaven Cemetery. However, I found him in listed in Boxwood Cemetery with his parents.)

Mrs. Nevada ROWLEY, wife of Seth G. ROWLEY, passed away at the family home on Pearl street, Monday afternoon, after a long illness, aged 64 years. Mrs. ROWLEY was born in New Berlin, N. Y., in 1854 and was married to Mr. ROWLEY in 1875, residing for some years in Middleport and moving to Medina in 1880, where she had resided ever since. Besides her husband she is survived by one son, Harry E., and three daughters, Lena A., Nevada E., of Medina, and Mrs. Herbert H. TINKHAM, of Amityville, N. Y.; and one brother, Clarence W. HOLMES of this village.
The funeral will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at two o'clock at her late home. The Rev. Walter Foss, of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate. Interment at Boxwood Cemetery. Mrs. ROWLEY's demise will be mourned by a wide circle of friends, by whom she was greatly beloved and regretted by the people of our entire community. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Medina, and foremost and active in all work of the society and interested in every good work for the benefit of others. Her many acts of kindness and charitable deeds will long be cherished in memory.

Seth G. ROWLEY died at his home on Pearl street September 28, 1920, aged 73 years, after a long illness. Mr. ROWLEY was born in Bolivar, N.Y., July 30, 1847, and came to Medina in 1879, since which time he had been engaged in the lumber business. He was highly regarded as a citizen and business man and was active in many positions of responsibility and trust, serving as a village trustee, member of the Board of Education, Commissioner of Boxwood Cemetery, trustee of the Presbyterian Church and director of Medina Saving and Loan Association since its organisation. He was prominent as a Mason, having attained all the degrees of the York Rite from the Master Lodge to the Commandery. He was also a member of the Alert and City clubs.
The deceased is survived by four children, Harry E. ROWLEY, Miss Lena ROWLEY and Mrs. Bruce OLMSTED, of Medina, and Mrs. Herbert TINKHAM of Amityville, L.I. and two brothers, F. E. ROWLEY, of Palmyra and A. B. ROWLEY, of Providence, R.I. The funeral will be held from his late home at 3 o’clock this a fternoon, Rev. Walter Foss officiating. Interment in Boxwood Cemetery.

Warren ROWLEY, retired Barre Farmer, died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Earl (Ethel) Marshall, in Richard's Road aged 78 years. He was a member of the Barre Grange, and he spent most of his life as a Farmer in the Town of Barre.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. William (Mary) TROLLEY of Medina and Mrs. MARSHALL of Albion; two brothers Levant ROWLEY of Climax, Michigan and George FLYNN of Medina and a half-brother Emilus ROWLEY of California. Funeral services were held at the McNall Funeral Home Tuesday, Burial in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Anthony ROZEK, for several years employed by the New York Central Railroad as a watchman on the South Main Street crossing, died unexpectedly at his home, 114 North Avenue, sometime during the night. His lifeless body was found by his wife at ten o'clock this morning. He had died in his sleep.
Funeral services for the late Anthony ROZEK, who died suddenly in his 114 North Avenue home here Tuesday, will be held in the Thibault Funeral Home, South Main Street, where the body is resting at 8:30 a.m. and at nine o'clock Saturday morning in Sacred Heart Church. The Rev. Anthony KRAWCZYK will officiate and burial will be in St. Celia's Cemetery, Oakfield.
Born in Lublin, Poland, his parents were the late Stanley and Mary (SZYMANSKI) ROZEK. For the past 6 years he had been a watchman for the New York Central at the Main Street Crossing here. He was a member of Orleans Aerie Eagles and the Rail Road Brotherhood.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary ROZEK; two daughters, Mrs. Wanda COUGHLIN of Elba and Mrs. Irene STROUD of East Rochester, a sister and three grandchildren.

Albion - Frank RUDD, 77, died Monday at the Arnold Gregory Memorial Hospital only a few houra after admittance. Born in Carlton, he was a lifelong resident there. For 30 years he owned and operated a farm on the Gaines-Waterport Road. Since his retirement five years ago, he had been living ar his home on East Avenue in Waterport.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Olive (MARSHALL) RUDD of Waterport; a daughter, Mrs. Jame FORRESTER of Gainesville; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the McNall Funeral Home. A service will be conducted there at 2 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Howard Pasel of Waterport with burial in Otter Creek Cemetery.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p. m. Wednesday at 154 South Main Street, Albion, for Gifford H. RUDD, 45, Rochester contractor and former Albion resident, who died Monday. Burial will be in Kenyonville Cemetery.
Mr. RUDD is survived by his widow, Anne N. RUDD and stepson, Thomas G. RUDD, both of Rochester; a brother, Clayton Rudd of California, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George E. RUDD of Kenyonville.

Albion - Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 p.m. for the late Christopher RUDRUM, 37, of this village, whose death occurred suddenly here on Saturday while shopping in the village. Death was the result of a heart attack.
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William (Daisy EDWARDS) RUDRUM of Barre, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. The Rev. George DUTTON, Pastor of the Barre Presbyterian Church, officiated and burial was in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Holley - Charles H. RUGGLES, 71, designer and builder of several early internal combustion engines in 1900, died early yesterday, Dec. 12, in his home here. Except for about two years, he lived on land which his grandfather, Dr. Edward RUGGLES, one of the area’s pioneers, settled on when he came here from Wakefield, Mass.
He was an automobile mechanic most of his life and made a study of the internal combustion engine around 1900, designing and building several, one of which was moulded from forms he made up of wood. Later he used this engine in an early motor boat. He worked in Rochester garages on some of the first cars sold in this area. At one time he built an entire car and designed a transmission.
He and Mrs. RUGGLES celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in September of 1949. He was a member of the Baptist Church and served as a trustee for many years, and was an officer of its men’s class. Besides his wife he is survived by four sons, William C. of Rochester, Chester R. of Bunnell, Fla., and Herbert F. and Harland S. of Holley; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond BECHTOLD of Spencerport and Mrs. Casper JAGGIE of Port Jervis; 10 grand-children and five great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Merrill Funeral Home, where services will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.

The death of Mrs. Addie RUMBLE occurred at the State Hospital in Buffalo this morning. The body will be brought to Medina today.

The funeral of Mrs. Addielade RUMBLE was held this afternoon at Fletcher Chapel, at 3:30 o’clock. Death as the result of tubercular trouble was looked for, yet it brings sadness to many friends. She was fifty-three years of age, and is survived by her husband and two children, Miss Cora and Alford; also two sisters, who are left to mourn her loss.

LYNDONVILLE MAN COMMITS SUICIDE
John RUMBLE, 66, operator of a large farm one mile east of Lyndonville, took his own life some time
yesterday afternoon by shooting himself in the head. Mr. RUMBLE had been despondent recently,
according to reports.
Missed yesterday afternoon, a call was sent to the troopers in the evening and a posse of about
twenty-five
was organized by Sergeant Harry Adams to search for Mr. RUMBLE, whose body was found about 9 o'clock
lying In a field with part of his head shot away.

Former Resident of East Oakfield Expires at East Shelby Home.
Mrs. Samuel RUMBLE of East Shelby died of consumption at her home on Wednesday, aged 24 years.
The funeral was held this afternoon. Mrs. RUMBLE was formerly Miss Nellie SCUFFAM, only child of
Mr and Mrs. Michael SCUFFAM, late of East Oakfield. Her mother died in 1804 and her father in 1808.
Mr. and Mrs. RUMBLE were married in March, 1901. Beside her husband she leaves two aunts and
three uncles.

John RUMP, an old resident of the English settlement, died on Saturday last, aged eighty years.

Austin B. RUMSEY, aged 98 years, oldest member of Hood Post, G.A.R., passed away Thursday, January 19, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter FREEMAN of Freeman road. He was born at Neffield, Tompkins County, and served in the 64th Volunteer Infantry. The regiment left the state December 10, 1861 with Mr. RUMSEY as a second lieutenant. It lost 15 officers and 217 enlisted men, being mustered out July 14, 1865 near Washington, D. C.
After being mustered out he married Miss Alice HARRINGTON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John HARRINGTON. He served as postmaster of Alpine, N. Y., for 20 years. His wife died in 1913 and at that time he came here to live with his only daughter, Mrs. FREEMAN. He is also survived by one brother, John, of Chicago and several grandchildren.
The funeral took place Saturday morning, Rev. W. L. Findlay officiating. Burial was at McGraw, N. Y. The passing of Mr. RUMSEY leaves only four Civil War veterans in the S. J. Hood Post, G. A. R. They are Elam Thomas, Charles Standish, Chandler Elicott and Gainan Ball.
Austin B. RUMSEY, aged 97 years, died Wednesday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter J. FREEMAN. He was a veteran of the Civil War having served from Sept. 1861 until he was wounded in the battle of Spotsylvania in 1864. He is survived by one brother John R. RUMSEY of Chicago, his daughter with whom he lived and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at his late home Saturday morning at 10:30 with burial at McGraw, N.Y.

Mrs. Hannah RUSSELL, 98, of Millville, died at the Criswell Nursing Home here yesterday. Widow of the late Miles RUSSELL, she had lived in Millville for many years and came to this country as a youngster from England where she was born on March 4, 1851, the daughter of Joseph and Hannah MANN.
Mrs. RUSSELL is survived by one sister, Miss May MANN, of Millville, and one granddaughter, Mrs. Melvin JOHNSTON, of Maple Ridge Rd.

The many friends of James RUSSELL will be surprised to learn of his rather sudden and unexpected death, which occurred about 8:45 o'clock this morning, at the boarding house of Mrs. William Loche on North Main street. For the past five weeks he had been ailing, but did not think medical treatment necessary until yesterday morning. Dr. Whiting was summoned owing to an acute attack of kidney and liver trouble. The deceased was well and favorably known, having been associated with the drug trade most of the time for years past, originally with the "James Boys" and since for 8 years with F. L. Zimmerman. His age is about 43 years and he was blessed with a pleasing and kindly disposition which made him hosts of friends.
Arrangements for the funeral will be made upon the arrival of relatives from the west.
The funeral of the late James RUSSELL is announced to take place tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence of Mrs. William Loche on North Main street. Interment will be in West Ridgeway Cemetery.

Former Medinan Killed in New Year’s Day Accident Orleans County was virtually accident free on New Year’s according to reports made by both State Police and the Sheriff's Dept. covering the holiday.
Tragedy struck Medina, however, as the result of a serious accident in Millersport Highway near Campbell Blvd., Amherst. A native Medinan, 28-year-old Bernice (SANTILLO) RUSSO, was killed as was her three-year-old daughter Phyllis. Another daughter, Judy, 18 months was injured with a concussion and forehead laceration.
Mrs. RUSSO, in company with a brother-in-law and his family, had traveled from their home in Buffalo to the home of her father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Frank RUSSO, 755 Church St., Medina, to spend New Year’s Eve. The brother-in-law was Joseph P. STEFANO, driver of the 1955 model car which skidded on an icy patch of highway, nosed over into a deep ditch which was excavated for a new water line, and turned over on its top, landing on several water pipes. Occupants were pinned inside.
The STEFANO family, with Mrs. RUSSO and her children, left Medina at about 2:15 a.m. The accident occurred about an hour later. STEFANO, the driver, told police that the driving conditions had been generally good during the trip. STEFANO, 42, of 248 Auburn Ave., Buffalo, received cuts and bruises. His wife, Johanna, 38, receIved multiple bruises and a back injury. Their son, Frank, 13, received bruises, and their daughter, Jean, 6, received knee lacerations.
Mrs. RUSSO, born in Medina, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph SANTILLO, 126 Gulf St., was pronounced dead on arrival at Meyer Memorial Hospital. Her body was not freed until the auto was righted by the Getzville Vol. Fire Co. The woman suffered a fractured skull and back. Her daughter, Phyllis, was also pronounced dead at the hospital, from a compound fractured skull. The other daughter, Judy, suffered a concussion and lacerated forehead.
Absent from the group and thus spared the accident was the dead woman’s husband, Philip RUSSO, manager of the Salad Bowl Restaurant in Buffalo. He had been called to work so did not join his family on the trip to Medina. Philip, who lived at 102 Heutter St., had lived in and near Medina for over 10 years prior to his marriage to Bernice SANTILLO about five years ago. They then moved to Buffalo. Prayers will be said for Mrs. RUSSO and daughter at 8 a.m. Saturday morning in the Warren B. Austin Funeral Home, 565 Elmwood Ave., at Anderson Place, followed by mass at 9:00 at All Saints Church, Esser and Henrietta.

James RUST, aged about sixty-five years, a farmer living about one mile east of Shelby Center, committed suicide on Friday afternoon last by hanging himself with a clothes line suspended from a beam in his barn. He had been in poor health for a long time, and as he had acted strangely of late his movements had been closely watched by his friends. On the afternoon above mentioned he went out to the barn, and as he didn’t return his wife went to ascertain the cause and found his lifeless body hanging from a beam, his feet being about an inch from the floor. She gave an alarm, and neighbors arrived and cut the body down, and summoned the coroner. Temporary insanity, superinduced by ill health, is supposed to have been the cause for the rash act. He leaves a wife (Catherine) and one daughter (Mary).

Lyndonville - Willis J. RUTHERFORD, 86, passed away Tuesday, June 28, in Lakeland, Florida. He was born in Lyndonville, December 11, 1862, the son of Jeanette SHORTER and James RUTHERFORD. He married Miss Cora BLOOD, who died in 1909. He resided in Lyndonville until 27 years ago when he moved to Caledonia where he married Miss Clarabell POURNEY. Eleven years ago they went to Florida and resided there ever since. He was engaged in farming.
He is survived by his wife; one son, James, of Lyndonville, six grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs. Henry Marshall of Lyndonville. His body will be shipped from Florida for burial here. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. Thomas Tighe of the Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Bruno Rutkowski, 67, of 512 Densmore St. Albion, died on Wednesday, June 14, 1967, in the Arnold Gregory Memorial Hospital, following a short illness. Born in Albion, he had lived in this area all his lifetime. He was engaged in farming for many years and for several years worked for the Orleans County Highway Department until retirement a few years ago. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, and Sheret Post 35, American Legion. Several cousins survive. Friends called at the Christopher Funeral Home. A Requiem Mass was held at St. Mary's Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday burial was in the New St. Joseph’s Cemetery veterans plot.

Albion - John S. RUTLEDGE, 88, died in Arnold Gregory Memorial Hospital here yesterday, following a short illness. Born in Maryland, Jan. 11, 1856, he came to Orleans COunty as a boy and had resided here most of his life.
Surviving are a son, Pfc. Roy RUTLEDGE, Newfoundland; two brothers, Warren RUTLEDGE of Fulton and N.E. RUTLEDGE of Baltimore, Md. Miss Agnes L. RYAN, 228 Eagle St., died suddenly Sunday at Medina Memorial Hospital. Miss RYAN had been the operator of Ryan’s Grocery Store, at 228 Eagle, which is the oldest existing family grocery in Medina. It was established by her father at the four corners of Main St. in 1883 and has carried on continuously to the present time.
Miss RYAN was a member of St. Mary's Church. She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Daniel J. CLEARY Sr., Mrs. John COSTELLO and Mrs. John LAHEY, all of Medina; two brothers, Joseph W. RYAN and David P. RYAN, both of Buffalo, and several nieces and nephews.
Prayer services wil be held at the Cleary Funeral Home Park Ave., Wednesday morning at 9:30, and Requiem Mass will be held in St. Mary’s Church at 10 o’clock. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Charles RYAN, the 14-year-old son of Lorenzo RYAN, who lives about three miles north of Holley, was buried Wednesday. About three weeks ago the deceased ate a large quantity of raw pork, the effects of which caused his death.

The toiling of the bell in the steeple of SS. Peter & Paul's Roman Catholic church, once for each of the 65 years of his life, announced the death of Rev. David Joseph RYAN, beloved rector of the parish for 13 years and dean of the priests of Chautauqua county, which occurred at 7: 15 o'clock Monday evening at the rectory, next door to the church.
Father RYAN was the victim of a serious throat affliction, and for the past two months had rapidly declined following a fall at the rectory. He had suffered also from rheumatism during the past 10 months, and on several occassions had been confined to his bed for long periods. At his bedside when the end came peacefully and without a struggle at an early hour last evening were the assistant rector, Rev. Patrick J. Kavanaugh, and Miss Minnie A. RYAN, a sister of Father RYAN, who was his housekeeper.
Besides Miss RYAN, Father RYAN is survived by another sister, Mrs. Richard O'BRIEN, Rochester; three nieces, May RYAN, Mrs. Charles LANE and Thomas R. KENNEDY, all of Rochester, and one nephew, William 0. O'BRIEN of New York city. Father RYAN enjoyed a rich acquaintanceship, not only within his own parish, but outside the church, where in his quiet unassuming way he exemplified his life's mission, and dispensed untold philanthropy to the poor, a man highly regarded and deeply esteemed by all who knew him. He had been a priest for 38 years, having been ordained at the age of 25 years at Niagara university, Niagara Falls, N. Y., on June 11, 1892.
Father RYAN was born in Medina, N. Y., the son of Patrick and Anna RYAN, now deceased. He attended the public schools of Medina and upon the completion of his courses there entered Niagara university. He completed his college education at the Catholic University of America, located at Washington, D. C. Following his ordination he spent two years as chaplin at Elmira reformatory and then became assistant pastor at St. Patrick’s church in Elmira, where he was stationed for two years. St. Mary’s church at Niagara Falls was the next church to which he was sent as assistant pastor and he remained there for two years.
In 1895 he was appointed as pastor of the Newfane church which also included missions at Olcott and Cambria. At this time he was the youngest pastor in the Buffalo diocese. Father Ryan spent 10 months in this latter parish from which he was appointed to the parish at Bergen. At Bergen he spent nine years and then was transferred to the Church of Visitation at Buffalo. He was pastor there for two and a half years. His health having become impaired as the result of his zealous work in the Buffalo church, Father Ryan requested the bishop of the diocese to give him a country parish. Father Ryan's work had been so successful that it was with reluctance that the bishop granted his request, giving him, however, an indefinate leave of absence rather than a transfer. Father RYAN spent nine years then at Akron, N. Y., during which time he completely regained his health.
On November 19, 1917, Father RYAN was appointed to the parish of SS. Peter & Paul's church of this city. He succeeded Rev. Luke F. Sharkey, who went to Buffalo to be editor in chief of the Catholic Union and Times, the official organ of the Buffalo diocese. Father Sharkey had been here three years, having succeeded the late Rev. Richard Coyle, pastor of SS. Peter & Paul's for more than 40 years. The honor of being dean of the priests of Chautauqua county was conferred upon Father Ryan about a year and a half ago. He was a member at the Knights of Columbus, men's fraternal organization of the Catholic church and was chaplain of that body. He was also a member of all of the organizations of the church.
The remains will be removed to the church at 4 o'clock Thursday afternoon, when the office for the dead will be chanted, after which the body will lie in state until Friday morning at 10:30 o'clock, when solemn requiem mass will be celebrated. Bishop William Turner of Buffalo will have charge of the services. The Right Rev. Monsignor John J. Nash of Buffalo will be celebrant at the high mass, the assisting priests to be announced later.

Death of Fred C. RYAN
On Sunday last at his home on South Avenue, Medina, occurred the death of
Fred C. RYAN, aged 72 years.
Mr. RYAN was born in Medina and was highly regarded by all. He was a
machinist and for years had been employed at the A. L. Swett iron works.
Besides Mrs. RYAN, he is survived by three daughters and two sons.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the family home and was in charged of the Odd Fellows, of Medina, deceased was a member. Burial was made in Boxwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Henrietta RYAN, widow of the late Mortimer W. RYAN, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. (Franklin) A. ABBOTT, in Rochester, on Friday evening last, in the eighty-first year of her age. Mrs. RYAN was a daughter of the late Simeon DOWNS and until her removal to Rochester some years since, almost her entire life had been passed in Medina where she leaves many friends by whom she was highly esteemed.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Morgan L. (Anna) BRAINARD, Mrs. Bert M. (Henrietta) FRARY and Mrs. F. A. (Florence) ABBOTT. The body was brought on Saturday to the home of her daughter, Mrs. BRAINARD, on Park avenue, where funeral services were held Sunday afternoon. Rev. W. A. Harris conducted the service and Mrs. Frank S. Howard sang a solo unaccompanied. The interment was at Boxwood Cemetery.

James RYAN, a lifelong and highly esteemed resident of Shelby died on Friday last, aged 83 years. The funeral services were held from the family residence Sunday afternoon, Rev. D. E. Chapman, pastor of the Baptist church at Shelby, conducting the services. He is survived by one son, David C. RYAN, and two daughters, Mrs Luella LOFTUS, of Akron, and Mrs. Rose LUNDTELGEN, of Kansas City, Mo., and two brothers, Preston RYAN, of Shelby, and John RYAN, of Quincy, Mich. and two sisters Mrs. James KIRKHAM and Mrs William WRIGHT, of Jeddo. The burial was at the Millville Cemetery.

Mrs. Michael RYAN died today at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary C. GOODSELL, 417 East Center street. She is survived by her husband, and four daughters, Mrs. F. BEGORD, Mrs. C. LeFREAGH, Mrs. Edward SHOWALTER, of Rochester, and Mrs. Mary GOODSELL, of Medina; and two sons, James, of West Barre, and Joseph, of this village.
She had been a resident of Medina for over sixty years, and her many friends will grieve to learn of her death. The funeral will be held Thursday morning at St. Mary’s church.
The funeral of the late Mrs. Michael RYAN was held this morning at St. Mary’s church and was largely attended. The deceased was one of the pioneer residents of this sections.

The death of John RYAN, one of Medina's most venerable residents, occurred on Sunday morning last, after a long illness, at the age of 96 years. Mr. Ryan was born in Philadelphia, Pa., February 1801, his father being a veteran of the Revolutionary war whose discharge, signed by George Washington, has always been a treasured souvenir in the family. His early life was passed in Pennsylvania. In 1824 he walked from Philadelphia to Medina, then a hamlet of a few houses. He worked on the Erie canal and had charge of one of the line cannons which telegraphed the news of the completion of the work from Buffalo to Albany. When the Erie canal was enlarged Mr. RYAN had the contract for the work on the Little Falls division.
He was practically the discover(er) of the famous Medina sandstone and opened the first quarry. His operations in connection with the stone interests were extensive, and he gave the stone its first substantial boost toward popularity.
Mr. RYAN was a charter member of the Medina Lodge 336 F. and A. M., and was prominent in the order during his early life. He was one of the first members of the Medina Methodist Episcopal Church, helped to build its first church edifice and presented the first pipe organ to the church. He was a member of the first school board of Medina and was postmaster under Lincoln. He was a staunch Republican all of his life and was the close friend and political lieutenant of Thurlow Weed, and his influence in political matters was at one time very great. He numbered among his friends Hon. Roscoe Conkling, Governor Sanford E. Church, Judge Noah Davis and many others. He received a letter from Judge Davis a few years ago, which contained a splendid tribute to the grand old man.
Mr. RYAN was married at Knowlesville in 1826 to Hannah OVERDORF and had lived in Medina ever since. Eleven children were born to them, seven of whom constitute the surviving family as follows: Mrs. Mary CHASE, Mortimer W. RYAN, Mrs. Smith TUCKER, Mrs. Kate VanDEUSEN, Mrs. Albert J. HILL, Fred C. RYAN and Miss Imogene RYAN. Mr. RYAN's wife died some years ago. Three years ago Mr. RYAN fell down a flight of stairs breaking his hip and has been helpless ever since.
The deceased was prominently identified with all the early enterprises which gave an impetus to the growth of our village, and no one of our early pioneers is deserving of more credit for their efforts on behalf of Medina than Mr. Ryan. He was at one time considered quite wealthy, and his liberality in every cause and good work was proverbial; so much so, in fact, that the latter years of his life were spent in moderate circumstances.
The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, with a prayer by Rev. Mr. Lloyd at the residence, followed by the reading of the scripture and a prayer by Mr. Lloyd at the Methodist Church. The Masonic fraternity, the members of which order had escorted the remains to the church, then took charge, rendering their solemn and most affecting service. The burial took place with Masonic honors in Boxwood Cemetery.

The wife of Henry RYAN, formerly a resident of the town of Shelby, died at Cedar Rapids, IA., on Tuesday. The remains will arrive here this evening and the interment will take place at West Shelby, tomorrow, at 9 a.m. Deceased was the mother of Mrs. J. J. Jenkins, of Shelby.

The funeral of Mrs. Mathew RYAN was held from St. Joseph's church, Tuesday morning, at nine o'clock, Rev. Francis Sullivan officiating. Burial was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Mrs. RYAN has been ill for several weeks but the end was unexpected. She was 54 years of age and is survived by her husband; one daughter, Corrine of Albion; two sons, James, who is attending Notre Dame College at South Bend, Ind., and Edward who is at the Catholic University, at Washington, D C.; one brother, Richard O'BRIEN of Holley and two sisters, Mrs. Anna O'BRIEN of Holley, and a Sister of Charity at Ogdensburg, N. Y.

Matt RYAN Victim of Bad Grade Crossing at Richards Road.
Matthew A. RYAN, 58 years old, one of the most extensive sandstone quarry owners and operators in this part of the United States, was killed Monday afternoon about 1:20 o'clock and his coupe demolished when it was struck by a westbound passenger train of the Rochester, Lockport & Buffalo Railroad Company at the Richard road grade crossing, two miles east of Albion. Mr. RYAN left his home here Monday morning and visited several quarries near Hulberton in which he was interested. He was but a few hundred feet from the Filkins quarry in the Richard road, to which he was going, when struck by the train.
The approach to the crossing from the south is a deep cut in the rock and the view of the approaching train from the east was shut off as Mr. RYAN approached the crossing from the south until he was within fifty feet of the railroad tracks. The auto was struck and thrown to the west of the highway against a power transmission line pole. Small pieces of the enclosed body of the automobile were scattered along the south side of the rails for a distance of 345 feet to where the badly twisted chassis lay. The body of Mr. RYAN, who was alone in the automobile, lay about fifty feet west of the highway crossing. The train was in charge of Motorman John McGinnis and Conductor Harry Harmer, of Rochester.
Mr. RYAN was a widower. He leaves three children, James RYAN; of Batavia; Lieutenant Edward RYAN, of the United States Army, who recently graduated from West Point and is now in Florida, and Miss Corinne RYAN of Albion, who is attending school at Buffalo; also several brothers and sisters. Mr. RYAN was a member of St. Joseph's Church here and a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Funeral arrangements will not be completed until information is received regarding the arrival of relatives.

Mortimer W. RYAN died at his home in Rochester this morning, aged about seventy-two years. Deceased had been an invalid about eight years, but death resulted from a stroke of paralysis which prostrated him on Sunday last. The body will be brought to the home of his daughter, Mrs. M. L. BRAINARD, this evening. He was a son of the late John RYAN, and besides his widow, is survived by three daughters - Mrs. M. L. BRAINARD, Mrs. B. M. FRARY and Florence, who have the sympathy of many friends.

Patrick RYAN, a resident of Commercial Street, died very suddenly at his home last Friday. He had been sick with pneumonia, but was considered out of danger, and was able to walk about the house last morning. He was sixty five years of age. The funeral services, which were held Sunday, were largely attended.

This morning about six o'clock, occurred the death of Patrick RYAN, aged about sixty years. Mr. RYAN retired as usual last evening, and in excellent health apparently. Early this morning, Mrs. RYAN heard him gasping, and before she hardly realized it, he breathed his last. Dr. George F. ROGAN was sent for and after an examination stated that death was due to apoplexy.
Mr. RYAN had been a resident of Medina for over thirty years, and a merchant on the street nearly all of that time. He was a careful, prudent businessman and highly respected in the community. A host of friends will mourn his untimely demise. The deceased was a member of the C.M.B.A., of this place, and his funeral will be held under the rites of that organization, from St. Mary's Church Monday morning at nine o'clock, the Rev. Daniel O'BRIEN officiating.
Mr. RYAN is survived by a widow (Mary), five daughters, Mrs. Daniel J. CLEARY, Mrs. Phillip I. BRUST, Gertrude, Katherine and Agnes, and three sons, Joseph, David and Vincent, all of this place.

Mrs. Preston RYAN died at her home in Shelby at 12:30 Tuesday, July 13, after an illness of over a year, aged 72 years. Mrs. RYAN was born in Royalton, Niagara County, and lived her entire life in that town and Shelby. She was prominent and active in the social life of Shelby and had a circle of friends who mourn her demise.
Deceased is survived by her husband and two daughters, Mrs. Clark S. PETTIT and Mrs. George DEAN. The funeral services were held on Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the family home. Burial at West Shelby.

Stephen Vincent RYAN, 56, for thirty-three years a member of the postal service and identified with the Medina Post Office, the greater part of the time as a city carrier, died this morning in Medina Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since suffering a heart attack on Thanksgiving night.
He was born in Medina on January 2, 1894, and had lived here his entire lifetime. He entered the employ of the Medina Post Office in 1917 and has continued in the service since that time. For the past several months he had the business district as his postal carrier route. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a member of Medina Lodge of Elks and Medina Council Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mary CRAMER of Gasport; two daughters, Eleanor and Helen, both of Buffalo; a son, William, a student in Notre Dame University; five sisters, Mrs. Daniel J. CLEARY, Sr., Mrs. Philip I. BRUST, Mrs. John COSTELLO, Miss Agnes RYAN and Mrs. John LAHEY, all of Medina, and two brothers, Joseph W. RYAN of Buffalo and David P. RYAN of Medina.
Funeral services will be held from his late home, 311 Eagle Street, on Thursday, December 7, at 9:30 o'clock and from St. Mary's Church at 10 a.m. The Very Rev. Henry B. Shaw will officiate and burial will be in Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Gasport.

Mr. Thomas RYAN, of Park Avenue, died at his home in this village at eight o'clock this morning, aged seventy years.
Mr. Ryan suffered a fall a few weeks ago, but recovered nicely. This morning he was taken ill very suddenly and died in a few minutes, the doctor stating that death was due to valvular disease of the heart. The deceased was well known in the village, having lived here for about forty years. He was a cartman during most of that time, and had a large number of friends who will mourn his untimely demise.
He is survived by two sons, William, of Eagle Harbor, and Leo, of this place, and two daughters, Miss Catherine, of Medina, and Sister Fidelis, of Los Angeles. The funeral will be held from St. Mary's Church Wednesday morning at nine o'clock.

Shelby - Our little village was shocked last Saturday morning to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. James RYAN, aged 68 years. Upon arising in the morning she seemed as well as usual and was preparing breakfast when she was taken suddenly ill. Dr. Eckerson was immediately summoned, but on his arrival found that she had passed away. The funeral services were held from the family home on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, Rev. J. Black officiating. She leaves a husband (JAMES), one son, David RYAN, and two daughters, Mrs. Rose LUDTEGEN, of Union City, Mich., and Mrs. Luella LOFTUS, of Akron, N.Y., besides a large circle of friends to mourn their loss. Interment in the Millville Cemetery.

The funeral of William RYAN of Lockport, formerly of Medina, was held yesterday morning in St. Mary’s church. The bearers were Thomas Martin, J. R. Lahey of Medina, Edward Murphy, Frank Snyder, Ralph Walsh and William Hasking of Lockport. Among those from out of town attending were: W. L. Wood, H. J. Avery and R. W. Ellsworth, officials of the N. Y. Central R. R. from Rochester.

William RYAN, aged thirty-two years, died on Tuesday at his home east of Millville. He is survived by a wife and family.

Albion - Mrs. Augusta RYTLEWSKI, 64, died here Wednesday, Nov. 29, following a heart attack. She succumbed in a neighbor's home after she was stricken on her way to board a bus for work. Friends may call at her home at 210 Caroline Street until Monday; when services will be held at 9 a. m. at St. Mary's Assumption Church, with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
She was a native of Poland but had resided here for many years. She was a member of St. Mary's Assumption Church, its Rosary Society and Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Frank NOCHELSKI; two sons, Joseph and Louis, all of Albion; three brothers, Jule SWIERCZYNSKI of Harvey, Ill., and Stanley and John SWIERCZYNSKI of Albion; also five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
