Mrs. Anna SHACKELTON, a former resident of Medina, died early yesterday morning at St. Francis’ Home, Buffalo, following a long illness. Surviving are one son, Edwin CONNERS of Allentown, Pa.; and one granddaughter, Mary Grace SHACKELTON of Buffalo; also several cousins.
Funeral services will be held from the Cleary Funeral Home Tuesday morning at 8:30 o’clock and at St. Mary’s Church at 9 o’clock, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Died at his home on West Oak Orchard street, after a long illness. He is survived by his widow, Annie GALLAGHER SHAKELTON and two sons, Edward SHAKELTON, Jr., of New York City and Francis of this place and two sisters, of Spokane, Washington. The funeral occurred on Friday, Rev. Gilbert A. Shaw officiating. The interment was at Mt. Hope, Rochester.

Jesse SHAEFFER, one of the first merchants to settle in Lockport, died on Friday last, aged 86 years. He is survived by his wife, the former Mrs. FRENCH, of Medina.

Frank SHAFFER (son ot James & Sarah SHAFFER) was buried at Fletcher Cemetery on Friday last. His death was caused by falling down the hatchway of the boat upon which the family are living in New York harbor. He survived his injuries nearly three hours, when death came and put an end to the little fellows sufferings.

Edward SHANLEY died at his home Sunday morning. Death was a result of a week’s illness of pneumonia. The late Mr. SHANLEY was a life long resident of Medina and one of her best known and respected citizens. For the past 25 years he has been connected with the Medina postoffice and through this capacity he was well known to all. He was one of the first carriers to be appointed when the village was given the carrier system and served eighteen years in that position. The past seven years he has been in the office and it is through this work that people knew him best.
The deceased received his early education in Medina schools and has always taken a great interest in the welfare of the community. He has been particularly active in the Lodge of Elks, and his work in this order has made him widely known throughout Western New York. He served the lodge as Exalted Ruler during 1912-13, and for the past eight years has been secretary. His interest for the institution has been of the greatest and many times he has sacrificed his own physical comfort to be present on stated occasions. He was most active during the resent (sic) reunion, and initiation held here, and while his health at that time was not of the best, his activity at that time was to a great degree responsible for the success of the occassion. He was elected less than a month ago to serve his ninth term as secretary. He was equally attentive to the discharge of his duties at the postoffice. He was a charter member of Medina Council Knights of Columbus.
The late Mr. SHANLEY was 45 years of age and is survived by a wife (Monica), son Charles, mother, Mrs. John SHANLEY of Prospect Avenue, one sister, Mrs. Edward O'REILLY, and an aunt, Mrs. Mary MULLEN. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at nine o’clock from St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

The funeral of the late Edward SHANLEY, who died at his home on Pearl Street, early Sunday morning, was held this morning from St. Mary’s Church. Rev. Thomas F. GLEASON officiating at Requim Mass. The funeral was very largely attended by relatives and friends of the deceased. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and Medina Lodge of Elks, which organizations the late Mr. Shanley was a member, attended the funeral in a body. The entire postoffice staff also attended the services as a unit. The bearers were Rolland CLARK, Daniel CLEARY, Philip BRUST, Thomas FLATTERY, George CONLEY, and John FOSTER. Burial was made at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
The deceased was one of the best known of Medina’s young men and his sudden and untimely demise is mourned by the entire community.

Bishop John SHANLEY on the Roman Catholic diocese of Fargo, North Dakota, whose death occurred last Sunday, was born in Barre, in this county, in 1847, and his boyhood days were passed in Albion and vicinity.
(Note: Bishop SHANLEY was the son of John and Ann SHANLEY both of Ireland & was born in Orleans county in 1852 not 1847 which was the birthdate of his brother Francis.)

Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow at the Taylor and Reynolds Funeral Home, 70 Niagara St., Lockport, and at 9 o’clock at St. Patrick’s Church for Louis P. SHANLEY, 65, of 399 S. Transit St., Lockport. His daughter, Mrs. Dominic ALBANESE, lives at 318 South Ave. (Medina).
Mr. SHANLEY, former superintendent of fire alarms of the Lockport Fire Department, died Saturday in Buffalo Veterans Hospital. He was born in Medina, and had lived in Lockport since 1902. He had been a firefighter since 1935, and was put in charge of alarms in 1956. He retired in 1958. Mr. SHANLEY served with the Army in Europe during World War I. He was a charter member of Lockport Post 2535, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of Lockport Council 319, Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name Society of St. Patrick’s Church.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary HEALY; a son, David F. six daughters, Mrs. Carl W. BLACKEY Jr., Miss Patricia Rose SHANLEY, Mrs. Raymond B. COAKLEY, a ll of Lockport; Sister M. Dominic of Buffalo, Mrs. ALBANESE of Medina, and Mrs. Amuro D. GARRAFALO of Elmhurst, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Allen WILLIS of South Bend, Ind.; eight grandchildren.

ALBION - Funeral services for Ernest R. SHAPLAND, 62, former resident here whose death occurred in his home in Estro, Fla., on August 29, will be held tomorrow in the Grinnell Funeral Home. The Rev. William J. Youngman, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, of which the deceased was a member, will officiate and burial will be in Mt.Albion Cemetery. Military services will be held at the grave.
Mr. Shapland was born in Albion April 1, 1895. He served in World War I and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are his wife Beatrice STEWART SHAPLAND, a sister, Mrs. Loraine HAZARD of Albion, and a niece Mrs. Edward KAVANAUGH, also of this village.

Alexander SHARP, 82, died late last evening at his home, 309 Park Avenue, after a long illness. He moved here from the Ridge about four years ago. Mr. SHARP was a member of the Buffalo Aerie No. 46 Eagles and the Cataract Lodge I.O.O.F., Lockport.
He is survived by his wife, Inez HESS SHARP; one daughter, Mrs. Zura Irene SISSON of Medina, one brother, George A. SHARP of Lockport; one sister, Mrs. Jessie SAUER of Buffalo, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mrs. Margaret VanDeWALKER of Buffalo, William SHARP of Buffalo, Mrs. Isabelle SCHOUTEN and Mrs. Catherine NELSON of Lockport.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 from his late home with the Rev. Edward J. SIMPSON of the Presbyterian church officiating. Burial will be in Elmlawn cemetery, Buffalo.

Lyndonville - Funeral Services were held at 3:30 o'clock this afternoon at the Yates Baptist Church for Mrs. Carrie E. SHARP. The services were in charge of Rev. Floyd A. CHILDS, pastor, with burial in Lynhaven Cemetery.
Mrs. SHARP suffered a cerebral hemorrhage Saturday causing her death that day. Her home was at 443 Arnett Blvd., Rochester, where she moved from Yates Center about 10 years ago.
Surviving are her husband, William T. SHARP, who is in poor health; three daughters, Mrs. Grace PRINGLE, Lyndonville, Mrs. Clara NORTHROP, Elmira Heights, and Mrs. Julia HUNT, Davenport, Iowa; two sons, Samuel NEAL, Seneca Falls and Kenneth NEAL, Lyndonville; one brother, Dorr ALBRO of Cortland; 15 grandchildren amd one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Sharp was a member of the Brighton Community Church. Prayers services were held at the Lewis and Holly Funeral Home in Rochester at 1:30 o'clock before the funeral services.

John SHARP, aged 76 years, died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. J. P. JOSH, Rochester, on Friday. The body was brought to Medina Monday for burial in the family plot at Boxwood Cemetery. The Rev. Walter Foss officiated.

Lyndonville - Burial services for William SHARP, 73, were held at Lynhaven Cemetery Thursday, June 18, following suneral services in Rochester where he had been living the past 13 years. Mr. SHARP was born in Philadelphia but lived for some time in Boston, Mass. At the age of 16 years he enlisted in the army and was a Spanish-American Was veteran and a member of the Associaiton of Veterans for Foreign Wars. He was also a member of Brighton Community Church.
Mr. SHARP spent an interesting life having spent some time in 46 of the 48 states, as well as Canada and Mexico. He had worked in the huge threshing crews on the plains. After his marriage, he settles down to fruit farming and spent several years at Yeates Center. Mrs. (Carrie E. ALBRO) SHARP passed away two or more years ago.
Surviving are the following children, Mrs. Frank PRINGLE and Kenneth NEAL, Lyndonville; Mrs. Clara Northrup, Elmire Heights; Mrs. Julia HUNT, Rochester; Samuel NEAL, Seneca Falls.

George Henry SHATTUCK, in the 87th year of his age, passed away at an early hour on the morning of July 17th, at the Medina Hospital, after an illness of many months due to the infirmities of age.
No resident of Medina was more highly esteemed, and no one more deeply interested in the welfare and prosperity of our fair village than our deceased townsman during the generation in which he lived. When in the prime of life, although not actively engaged in business in town, he was first and foremost in promoting every enterprise of benefit to the community and his memory will ever be revered. The funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 this afternoon at the residence, by Genesee Commandery No. 10, Knights Templar, of Lockport. The officiating clergyman will be Rev. Charles B. Sparks.
Mr. SHATTUCK was born at Amherst, N.H., December 9, 1830, and was the youngest child of Nathaniel and Sally (STANLEY) SHATTUCK. His education was obtained in the public schools of the section, at the Hancock Literary and Scientific Institution and the Institution of New Hampton. After he left school he learned the trade of machinist in Manchester, N. H., and was a journeyman worker at various points including the Colt Pistol Works, at Hartford, where he remained until 1850, when he started out in new lines in New York and the West, finally settling in Orleans county. Under the tuition of his brother, he became an expert penman and specimens of his penmanship won mention with special approbation at the Exhibition of the Industries of All Nations in New York in 1854. Mr. Shattuck taught penmanship in Niagara Falls, Medina, Albion and other
points in Western New York and in Western cities, also doing expert engrossing and card writing. Meantime he had been acting as agent for Payson, Dunton & Scribner's copy books in various territories, and was at length asked by the firm to come to New York and teach the system in the public schools of that city, at the same time being given an interest in the copyright of the books.
Later he purchased an interest in the Spencerian system of penmanship copyrights and was agent and associate author until 1890 at a large salary, and was one of the most convincing and successful book men in the business, introducing the systems in which he was interested everywhere. In 1900 he associated himself with W. H. Shaylor, of Portland Me., and together they produced for Ginn & Company the series of copy books known as the Medial system, which was a compromise between the slant of the old Spencerian and the vertical, which had a wide popularity at that time, and is the system used in the schools of Medina. This system has been translated into Spanish for the island possessions of the United States, and is used in thousands of schools in this country. During Mr. Shattuck's career as an author of text books more than 80,000,000 books bearing his name have been used in the schools throughout the world.
He was married June 30, 1862, to Margaret BATHGATE, who died in 1904. Three sons were born to them, William B., who died within the year of his birth, George H., who died in 1894, and was buried with military honors by the Twenty-ninth Separate Company of this place, being the first death in the organization, and Algernon B., the only surviving member of the family.
Mr. SHATTUCK built a splendid home on the site of the Bathgate homestead, corner of Pearl and West streets, which has now been in the possession of the families for 100 years. He was always deeply interested in everything which pertained to Medina, and with his wife made their home for many years one of Medina's social centers. For many years and until his death, Mr. SHATTUCK had been a warden of St. John's Episcopal church, and always a faithful member and liberal supporter of the church.
He was a member of Medina Lodge No. 336, F. and A. M.; Medina Chapter No. 281, Royal Arch Masons, Alph-Omega Council, No. 71, Royal and Select Masters, Morton Commandery No. 4, Knights Templar of New York City, Mecca Temple, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. In politics he was an Independant Republican and, although always active in every campaign, had never aspired to an elective office. He was for some time commissioner of Boxwood Cemetery and for a time president and manager of the Bignall Manufacturing Company.
A few years ago, when retiring from the active work of text book authorship, he presented the New York Public Library his wonderful collection of pamphlets, books and manuscrips, comprising 428 works relating to the history of penmanship, and covering the period from 1659 to 1850. His collection of art catalogues and sales for thirty years was given to the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy, and to the Armory of Company F, in memory of his son George, he gave a complete set of the Scribner's and Century magazines bound, with handsomely engraved inscriptions, and the volumns have been added to from year to year to keep the set up to date.

Eugene SHAW, formerly of Jeddo, died of Bright’s disease on Sunday last, in Orlando, Florida. The body will be brought to the home of his brother, George, at Johnson’s Creek, where the funeral will take place today. Besides his widow, one brother, and two sisters survive.

Harry I. SHAW, 39, Camden merchant , and former Medina Resident died August 25, 1933, in Utica as a result of injuries sustained in a collision a few hours earlier when his motorcycle and a light truck came together.

With sadness we record the death of Jesse SHAW, which took place at his home on Park Avenue, on Monday evening, April 2nd, at 8 o'clock. Mr. SHAW had not been in firm health for quite a time, and for the two days before his death had been more unwell than usual. On Monday afternoon he walked down street, called upon his physician, secured medicine, and returned to his home, suffering considerably, and while sitting in his chair suddenly passed away with disease of the heart. He was 65 years of age.
Mr. SHAW was born in Rensselaer Co., N. Y., in 1822. Came to Orleans Co. in 1868, and resided on his farm in Shelby until a few years since, when he moved to his late home on Park Avenue. He had been a worthy member of the M.E. Church for thirty years, and leaves a wife, three sons and four daughters. Two sons reside in Illinois, one son in Binghamton, one daughter in Michigan, one in New York City and two at home. The funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., today at the house, Rev. G. H. Dryer conducting the same.

Miss Lora SHAW, aged 72 years, died Saturday at the home of her sister, Mrs. Delavan D. FOSTER, near Jeddo, as the result of a stroke she suffered several days before. She was a life long resident of Jeddo and is survived by her sister, Mrs. FOSTER; one brother, George SHAW, of Jeddo and several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held Monday afternoon.

Miss Ellen SHEA, 89, Williamsville, died this morning, after a lingering illness at the St. Mary's of the Angels Home in Williamsville conducted by the Sisters of St. Joseph. Miss SHEA’s body will be brought to the Cleary Funeral Home today with funeral services conducted at the St. Joseph Church, Albion, at 10:30 tomorrow morning with burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Albion. Richard SHEA, 78 years old, former Falls branch division superintendent of the New York Central railroad, was found dead in his home in Albion yesterday.
Mr. SHEA resided alone. When Percy Anderson, milk dealer, found yesterday’s full milk bottle, where he had left it on Wednesday morning, he summoned a neighbor, who entered the house when no response was given to the doorbell. Mr. SHEA was found laying partly dressed, where he had fallen across the bed.
Mr. SHEA was born at Lockport. He was a widower. He is survived by three sons, William SHEA of Buffalo; Daniel SHEA of New York, and George SHEA of Rochester; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas FLATTERY of Medina, and Mrs. P. C. AANDERSON of Mercer, Pa., and two sisters, Mrs. Mary McDERMOTT and Ellen SHEA, both of Batavia.
Mr. SHEA was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where the funeral services will be held Saturday morning.

Mrs. Fred A. SHELLEY died on Thursday last at her home in Newfane. Mr. and Mrs. SHELLEY resided in Medina for many years when he was in the drug business in the store now occupied by the Olympia Confectionery store in the Bent block. Mr. SHELLEY's many friends will sympathize with him in his sad bereavement.

Mrs. Nathan Shelley who died at her home March 14th, at the age of 83 years and 7 months, after an illness of 10 years, caused by paralysis from which she lost her speech and never recovered, emigrated here with her parents in 1812 from the east, and was married at Gaines village in 1820, to Nathan SHELLEY by Judge Anderson, her maiden name being Dorcus TALLMAN. Her husband still survives at the age of 81 years, with four children, two daughters and two sons, who mourn the loss of a departed mother whose mission on earth has ceased and her labors have been finished.

Nathan SHELLEY died at his late residence last Wednesday at the advanced age of 81 years. Six years ago he was partially paralyzed, and since that time he has been gradually failing. The loss of his wife last spring has also preyed upon his mind. Mr. SHELLEY was a faithful Christian, having been a member of the Wesleyan Methodist church. He leaves two sons and two daughters to mourn the loss of a kind father.

SHELP - Died, very suddenly of heart disease, at his residence in West Shelby, on Tuesday, October 25th, 1887, William SHELP, aged 67 years and three months. Mr. Shelp was born in Caledonia, N Y., and came to this county with his parents in 1821 and has ever since lived on the same farm, a period of 66 years. He might well be called one of the pioneers of Orleans county. In 1851 he was united in marriage with Sophia FREEMAN who still survives him. For 45 years he had been a consistent member of the Shelby Christian Church.
He was a quite, industrious, peaceable citizen, a man of good habits, a lover of home, beloved by those who knew him, and will be sadly missed by his bereaved family, the Church and the community. His funeral serviceswere largely attended in the Brick Church, at West Shelby, on Thursday last, the sernon being preached by his pastor, Rev. D. W. Moore. Interment in the beautiful cemetery on the hill at West Shelby.

Tho death of Mrs. Belle SHENNING, for years a resident of Knowlesville and vicinity, occurred at her home Saturday, after a week's illness with pneumonia. The body of the man found on the rocks in the Genesee River gorge below Driving Park Avenue bridge in Rochester (NY) on Thursday morning has been identified as that of Arthur SHEPLAR, 26, of Holley. Identification was made by the dead man's brother.

Mrs. Pluma SHEPPARD, widow of the late James C. SHEPPARD, died at her home corner Center and Catherine streets, on Friday evening, in the sixty-fourth year of her age. She is survived by one daughter. Funeral services were held at the residence Monday, Rev. F. T. Latham officiating. Interment in Boxwood Cemetery.

The death of Charles A. SHERWOOD, one of the oldest residents of Medina, occurred at his home on South Main Street yesterday.
The deceased was born in Medina on March 3rd, 1840. He married Eliza WILCOX of Holley, whose death occurred 13 years ago. A niece, Mary E. MEYERS of Rochester, survives.
The funeral will be held from his late residence on South Main Street, Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Rev. William Findley of the Presbyterian Church will officiate. The burial will be at Holley.

The death of Deming SHERWOOD, former Medina resident, occurred at his home at Denver, Colorado, Wednesday, January 17th. The deceased suffered a stroke of paralysis on Monday, January 15th. Mr. SHERWOOD was born in Millville 72 years ago. For some time he conducted a dry goods store in Medina. About 25 years ago he moved to Denver, where he had since resided. He leaves to mourn their loss a wife; one son, Homer Deming SHERWOOD, of Winchester, Mass.; also three sisters, Misses Laura, and Alice SHERWOOD and Mrs. John ARNETT, all of Millville.

The deceased was a life long resident of this village, and for many years took an active interest in the social and charitable undertakings of the place. Albion, Jan. 26.- Dr. Frank Guy SHERWOOD, a prominent physician of this village died in the Ithaca City Hospital at 9:30 o’clock last night while stopping in that city to visit his son, Richard H. SHERWOOD, a freshman in Cornell University, who last year won the Cornell Scholarship in this district.
Dr. SHERWOOD left the Park Avenue Hospital of Dr. Charles BARBER, in Rochester, last Thursday after having spent several weeks there for treatment for blood poisoning in his left hand. He decided to take a two months vacation in Tampa, Florida and the South to regain his health, and left Albion Saturday with his wife, who was to leave him at New York city while he took an ocean trip to Florida.
They stopped at Ithaca to visit his son and Saturday evening Dr. Sherwood was taken with a chill and symptoms of pneumonia developed, which caused his removal from the hotel to the Ithaca City hospital Sunday. Tuesday afternoon Dr. BARBER of Rochester was called to Ithaca in consultation with the hospital physicians, and it was found that pleuro-pneumonia had developed.
The remains were brought to Albion on the 5:55 o’clock train tonight. A private funeral service will be held at the home on Main street Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock for the relatives of the family, and a public funeral in Christ’s Episcopal Church at 2:30 o’clock, Rev. Glenn H. WHITE officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Albion Cemetery.
Dr. SHERWOOD was a son of the late Guy SHERWOOD, and was born in Millville, September 23rd, 1850. Besides his widow, one daughter, Ruth E. SHERWOOD, two sons, F. G. Jr., of Albion, and Richard H. of Cornell, and two sisters, Amelia BELDING, of Rochester, and Mrs. Ella HARDING, of Medina, survive. The body was brought to Albion for interment.

John N. SHERWOOD, one of Medina's oldest residents, a most respected citizen and Christian character, died at the Medina hospital yesterday afternoon following a most protracted and wearisome illness.
Mr. SHERWOOD was born in the town of Somerset, Niagara county, August 21, 1830. There he was educated and grew to young manhood. He married Miss Mary MURDOCK, of Ridgeway, and they lived on Fruit avenue in the western part of the town until about twenty years ago when they removed to this village. Mr. SHERWOOD had been intimately identified for more than a half century with all that is best of the social, civil and religious development of this community and now when mature age has closed down the eyelids in the last mortal sleep, ending a long and honored career, it is befitting to pay tribute to one who at all times was of the highest type of manhood.
Sixteen years was he a member of the choir of St. John's church of this village thereby indulging his love of music. In all his younger years he was prominent in every local musical circle. Mr. SHERWOOD was a member of the City Club and of Medina Lodge No. 336, F. and A.M.; in fact he was the oldest Freemason in the County of Orleans at the time of his death.
He is survived by his two children, Mrs. Windle W. SMITH, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Leon M. SHERWOOD, of this place. His wife predeceased him several years ago. The funeral will be held at St. John's Church Friday afternoon at four o'clock. Interment in the West Ridgeway Cemetery.

Orin F. SHERWOOD, of Minneapolis, Minn., died in that city on March 16, aged about 68 years. He is survived by his widow and two daughters. Mr. Sherwood was born and lived on Maple Ridge up to the time he left for the West about thirty years ago.

Edward SHIBILSKE, 34, formerly of 610 Bates Road, passed away at Resthaven Nursing Home, Gasport, yesterday. He was born in Brockport, Sept. 25, 1916, and had been a patient at the nursing home for five years. Surviving are several uncles and aunts.
Friends may call at the Cleary Funeral Home, Park Avenue, beginning at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow. Services will be held Saturday morning at 8:30 at the Cleary Funeral Home and at 9 am in St. Mary' s Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Martin SHIBILSKI, 73, R.F.D. 1, Medina, passed away Christmas eve in Medina Memorial Hospital. Pursuing the trade of carpenter during his entire lifetime, Mr. SHIBILSKI came to Medina at a very early age from his native Poland. His wife, Josephine (KONESKI), died in 1942.
Surviving him are four children, John, of Middleport, Edward, of Medina, Raymond, of Kenmore, and Mrs. Anthony BODGEN, of Medina; three sisters, Mrs. Ellen GOTTOVI, Mrs. Edward WASNOCK, and Miss Mary SHIBILSKI, all of Medina, five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 9:30 from the O'Reilly Funeral Home, East Center St., with the Rev. Anthony J. KRAWCZYK officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Slippery pavement caused the death of two women, one a former Medina resident, and the serious injury of a Medina man early Sunday morning. The dead are Miss Nellie A. SHIMMEL, 29, of 78 Strauss St., Buffalo, for a number of years a resident of Medina, and Miss Mary J. SCHMIDT, 31, of 223 Dellwood Rd., Eggertsville, both passengers in a car driven by Stephen JACKOWIAK, 160 Elizabeth Street, Medina, who was seriously hurt.
The accident which claimed the lives of the two women happened at 3 am. Sunday morning in Millersport Highway at Forest Rd. Town of Amherst and according to a report given to Erie County authorities the Jackowiak car skidded out of control into the path of a gasoline truck driven by Laverne KAISER, 39, of 1378 Nash Rd., North Tonawanda, who was going in the opposite direction.
The three occupants of the car were thrown out of the vehicle by the impact of the collision and Miss SHIMMEL was thrown under the rear of the truck so that it was necessary to jack up the vehicle to extracate her body. She suffered a fractured skull and other bone fractures and was badly cut and bruised.
Her companion, Miss SCHMIDT, who was lying on the left side of the road after the crash also suffered a skull fracture and multiple fractures. Both women were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. JACKOWIAK was hurled onto the shoulder of the road. He was taken to Myers Memorial Hospital where he is suffering from a head injury and multiple cuts and bruises.
The party had been in Medina Saturday night calling on relatives and friends. JACKOWIAK, who lives with the Michael BALDWIN family at Elizabeth St., was formerly employed by the Medina Iron & Brass Co. but had been in Buffalo doing carpenter work since a lay off at the local plant. Miss SHIMMEL and Miss SCHMIDT became friends through YWCA activities, the latter’s sister, Mrs. Joseph F. WALTER of the Dellwood Rd., Buffalo, address, said. 'They had planned to go to a movie, although Mary usually preferred to stay at home nights,' Mrs. WALTER said. 'Then Miss SHIMMEL called her and suggested that, instead of the show, they go out with Mr. JACKOWIAK, who is a friend of the SHIMMEL family. Mary finally agreed.'
Miss SHIMMEL, who lived with a sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John S. DULAC, at the Strauss St. address, had been employed as a finisher at the Dunlop Tire & Rubber Corp. for seven years. Born in Betula, Pa., she was an infant when the family moved to Medina. She was a graduated from the Culvert Road School and attended Medina High School. She belonged to the Women’s Sodality of St. Ann's Church. Besides Mrs. DULAC, she is survived by three other sisters, Frances, of Buffalo, and Mary and Ann, of Medina, and four brothers, John P. of Grand Island, and Michael, Andrew and Walter, all of Medina.
Services will be held Wednesday at 8:45 a. m. at the Tehan Bros. Funeral Home, 415 Grider St. and at 9:30 o’clock at St. Ann's Church, Broadway and Emslie, Buffalo.

Albion - Hume R. SHIPMAN, 70, messenger for the Orleans County Board of Supervisors for about 12 years and previously an employee of the former Citizens National Bank for 14 years, died in his home at 339 W. Bank St. here yesterday (Feb. 22, 1948) after a long illness. He was a 25-year member of the Albion Lodge of IOOF and a member of the Albion Episcopal Church. He was a member of several early Albion bands here years ago.
He leaves his widow, Mrs. Faith MILLER SHIPMAN of Albion; a son, Robert M. SHIPMAN of Albion, and a niece, Mrs. Alva BATES of Albion. Funeral in the home at 3 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 24, 1948), with the Rev. H. I. Lynd of Lockport officiating. Burial in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Henry Oberdorf SHISLER, one of the pioneer residents of Medina passed away Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Francis BARKER. He was born in Sunbury, Pa, August 8th, 1818. When seven years of age he removed with his parents, by means of horses and wagons, to Geneva, N. Y., and two years later to Tonawanda. In 1835 he came to Medina with John Ryan and assisted in the construction of the bridge abutments on this section of the Erie canal. Later he did construction work on the canal between Little Falls and Amsterdam. In February, 1841, he married Angelica BRODT Peek, of Florida, N. Y., and in 1845 he returned to Medina, where he has since resided. After his return he was interested in various stone quarries, both here and in Albion.
Years ago he united with the Methodist Episcopal Church of this place. He was a faithful christian and for over twenty years was a trustee of the church and the leader of the Sunday class. He leaves to mourn his loss two sons - Aaron J. SHISLER, of this place, and Charles E. SHISLER, of Buffalo - one daughter, Mrs. Francis BARKER, four grand children, one great grand child and one sister, Mrs John PARKS, of Rochester.
Services will be held at the home of Mrs. Barker, Saturday afternoon at three o'clock, Rev. Dr. Parkhurst officiating.

The death of Mrs. Helen Shorey, aged 73 years, occurred at her home on Church Street Sunday night at ten o’clock, following a severe illness. The deceased is survived by four daughters, Mrs. C. H. WRIGHT and Mrs. A. G. HUBBARD of Chicago, Mrs. A. G. MOPPERT of Buffalo, and Miss Ida SHOREY of Medina; also by three sons, Albert of Chicago and Charles and Edward of Medina.

Mrs. Minnie SHORT, 74-year old Medina woman who was fatally injured in an auto accident near Frederick, Md., Saturday, Nov 1, was a former resident of Albion and had spent most of her life here. She was riding with her nephew, Charles E. PHILLIPS and his wife, with whom she had left Medina the previous day for a trip to Florida. Their car, towing a house trailer, blew a tire and she was thrown from it, dying a short time later in a Frederick hospital of multiple fractures and shock.
Her body was sent to the Grinnell Funeral Home here and burial was in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Died - With but a moment’s warning on the night of the 4th inst., of heart disease, at her residence, one mile east of this village, Mrs. Elizabeth FLORIDA SHREEVE, wife of Mr. Alfred SHREEVE, in the 38th year of /her age. She leaves six children, one a baby but of a few hours. Mrs. SHREEVE became a member of the Presbyterian Church, in March 1860, and in the view of those best acquainted with her, has ever adorned her profession, in whose remembrance her unassuming, modest, yet decided piety will long remain as a sweet savor.

Mrs. Anna M. SHULER, 68, wife of John SHULER, resident of Syracuse for the last 40 years, died Friday morning at the family home, 215 Lorraine avenue, after a lingering illness. She was born in Medina. Surviving besides her husband are two sons, John J. SHULER of Syracuse and Thomas E. SHULER of White Plains; a grandson, Jerome SHULER, and a sister, Miss Mathilda EGAN of Medina. The funeral was held from the home Monday morning at 9 oclock with services half an hour later at the Church of St Anthony of Padua. Burial was in St. Agnes Cemetery.

She leaves four children, Edward SHULTZ of Batavia, Theodore SHULTZ of Albion, Mrs. Edmund GREGORY of Millville and Mrs. Charles FOSTER of Miami, Florida. Also eight grandchildren. MILLERS, June 10. — Mrs. John SHURGOUR died at her residence in Hartland, Saturday evening, June 6. She had been confined to the house for several months, and bore her suffering with courage and patience. She leaves to mourn, beside a husband, two daughters, Ethel and Edith, who were at home during the latter part of her illness, the latter having given up her school at County Line, leaving it under the efficient management of Mr. Dean Walker, to enable her to assist in the care of her mother.
The funeral services were, at the request of the deceased, held from Millers church, at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning, and conducted by Rev. W. E. Wells of Ransomville, assisted by Rev. Ray Wootton, pastor of Millers. The church was filled with people, being in evidence of the high esteem in which the deceased was held in the vicinity. Appropriate vocal selections were rendered by a quartette consisting of B. E. Kenyon, G. T. Veness, Miss Ethel Kenyon and Mrs. H. S. Payne. Interment at Daniel’s Cemetery, in Ridgeway.

Albion - Fortunato SIDARI, 54, well known local musician and a carpenter by trade, died in his East Bank Street home in this village Sunday, October 30, after a long illness. As a youth he was a member of the Donatelli Band here and for the past 20 years a baritone soloist with the Sheret Post American Legion Band. He also has been active in affairs of Sheret Post, the Albion Court Maconi of Foresters of America, the Loyal Wing Club, and the Albion Council of Knights of Columbus.
He was a veteran of World War 1 and a member of St. Joseph's Church and its Holy Name Society, whose members will meet in a body at 8 p. m. tomorrow to pay respects at the Christopher Funeral home at 354 W. State St., Albion. Services will be held there at 8: 30 a. m. Wednesday, followed by Mass in St. Joseph’s Church at 9 a. m. with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Gladys SPADA SIDARI; three sons, Rocco SIDARI, Frank SIDARI and Leonard SIDARI; four daughters, Mrs. Jane CICCOLINE and the Misses Santa, Eleanor and Louise SIDARI, and seven grandchildren, all of Albion; two brothers, Dominick Sidari of Middleport and Rocco SIDARI of Italy; and three sisters, Rose, Frances and Sabianzia, all of Italy.

The death of Mrs. Josephine SEDGWICK (SIDEROWICZ) 63, of Maple Ridge Rd. occurred unexpectedly in her home last night. She expired sometime during the night and her death was discovered this morning. She was a native of Poland coming to Buffalo at an early age and had been a resident of this vicinity for the past 31 years. She had been an employee of H. J. Heinz Co. for the past 12 years.
She was the widow of the late Adam SEDGWICK and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Surviving are four children; Mrs. Bernice MILLER, at home; Mrs. Laura MONACELL of Buffalo, and Mrs. Stella MACUGOWSKI of Batavia, three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Prayer services will be held Thursday, Sept. 11 at 9:30 a.m. in the Thibault Funeral Home, where the body is resting with requiem mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart, Church. The Rev. Anthony CIECHANSKI will officiate and burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Mrs. Ida SIEBERT, nee Reak (Rieck?), was born August 7, 1868 at Alabama. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Michael's Church in Wolcottsville. November 24, 1898 she was married to Arnold SIEBERT. This happy union was blessed with one daughter. She lived all her life time in the town of Alabama. Mrs. SIEBERT had been ailing for a long time and five weeks ago was taken seriously sick which caused her death on Thursday morning at the age of 59 years, 10 months and 7 days. Besides her husband she leaves to mourn her loss, one daughter, Leona at home,
Funeral services were conducted from the residence on the Lewiston Road, west of Alabama Center, Sunday at 2 p.m. Interment at West Shelby, (Mt. Pleasant Cemetery) Rev. C. Poeckler, officiating.

Anthony SIEDLECKI, 47, 116 North Street, died last night at Mt. Morris, following a short illness. Born in Pennsylvania, he had resided in Medina most of his life. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, and a member of Sacred Heart Club and Loyal Order of Moose.
Surviving are his wife, Josephine (GUZIK) ; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held from the Cleary Funeral Home, Park Avenue, Friday morning at 9:30 o’clock, and at St. Mary’s Church at 10 o’clock. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Walter Siedleski, 40, World War veteran, died yesterday in Hines Veteran Hospital, Hines, Illinois, where he had been a patient for several months. Mr. Siedleski was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., but had spent the greater part of his life in Medina. He was a member of the James P. Clark Post of the American Legion and Sacred Heart Society.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, two sons, Richard and David, and a brother, Anthony Siedleski, all of Medina. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:30 from his late home and at 9 o’clock in Sacred Heart Church. Rev. Max Bogacki will officiate and burial will be in the soldiers’ plot in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Military honors will be given by the American Legion.

Frank SILK died at his home on East Center street Wednesday morning, November 18th, aged 52 years. The cause of death was bronchial pneumonia. Deceased is survived by a widow, as well as by his mother, two brothers and two sisters who reside in Germany.

William George SILKER, 65, of Fletcher Chapel Road, East Shelby, died Saturday at his home. He had been in ill health for the past four years. He was born in Buffalo, Nov. 14, 1892, and had been employed by Massey-Harris Company in Batavia.
Survivors include his wife, Edith; four children, Suzan Anne, Larry and Arlene, at home, and William SILKER of Lancaster; two grandchildren. Also four sisters, Mrs. Olga BUCLAW and Mrs. Joseph CURRY of West Seneca, Mrs. Helen VALEE and Mrs. Frances FLYNN of Buffalo; several nieces and nephews.
Friends wtll be received at Barnes-Tuttle Funeral Home, Pearl St., where services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow with the Rev. James V. Hedges of Fletcher Chapel Church officiating. Burial will be in Millville Cemetery.

Lyndonville - The death of Mrs. Etta C. SILL, 76, a native of Yates, occurred early today in St. Luke’s Hospital, New York City, following an illness of two weeks.
Born in Yates she has been a resident here until the death of her husband several years ago. Since that time she has resided with her daughter, Miss Helen SILL of New York City. While here she was an active worker in the Lyndonville Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to her daughter is one son, John SILL of Poughkeepsie and a granddaughter, Joan; also several cousins.
The remains are being brought to the Smythe Funeral Home here where services will be held Saturday, November 29, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Raymond Draffin, pastor of the Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.

ALBION - Joseph A. SIMBOLI, 37, of West Academy St., associated with a brother, Edward, in the E. & 0. Restaurant here, died late Sunday night in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. He was a native of Holley and a member of the Assembly of God Church there, and was employed by the Central Bible Institute in Springfield, Mo., before coming to Albion five years ago.
He leaves his widow, the former Miss Geraldine THOMSON of Springfield; four daughters, Jane, Jean, Joan, and Jeanette, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Margaret CIAMPAGLIA of Los Angeles, Calif. Also, two brothers, Lewis of Holley and Edward of Albion; three sisters, Mrs. Vincent Di VINCOLIS, Mrs. Albert PIEDEMONTE of Holley and Mrs. Frank BONGIOVANNI of Albion, and several nieces and nephews.
Family friends will be received today and Wednesday at the Merrill-Grinnell Funeral Home, 12 Ingersoll St., Albion. A service will be conducted at 2 p. m. Thursday in Assembly of God Church in Holley, and burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Holley.

Pierre A. SIMKINS died this morning at his home on Prospect avenue, after a long illness, at the age of seventy- eight years. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons—Irving and Eugene - and one daughter - Imogene -residents of this place, excepting Eugene, whose home is in Amsterdam, N.Y. Funeral services will be held at eleven a. m., Saturday, and the remains taken to Kendall for interment.

Pierre A. SIMKINS was born in the town of Rochester, Ulster county, N.Y., June 11th, 1823, and died in Medina January 24, 1901. Very early in life he was forced to rely upon those sterling qualities which made his after life a success. He assisted his father in running a line of boats on the Delaware and Hudson Canal. He came to Elmira and was employed in constructing the Erie Railroad. He was united in marriage with Miss Mary Swartwood in the year 1846, by Rev. Philo E. Brown, a prominent minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church.
The family moved to Kendall, N. Y., in 1850. From the first Mr. SIMKINS had a place in the foremost rank of prominent citizens. He was elected six times as supervisor and served on the committee that planned the present county clerk's office in Albion. During the thirty-five years that he resided in Kendall he was active in political life and his advice was always solicited and his counsel always wise. There was a genial greeting for everybody, which was as natural for Pierre Simkins as for the sun to shine. He was a Methodist christian, as was his father before him, and held all the offices in the gift of the church for a layman. As class leader he was faithful, and helpful, as steward he was diligent and generous, as trustee, he was careful, painstaking and progressive.
He came to Medina in 1884 and took his place as a christian worker. He drew all towards himself by the warmth of his christian experience and the wise counsel of his mature judgement. His death was not unexpected, but out from a sorrowing family he passed to his reward.
Three children - Irving, Eugene, and Emogene - remain to assist in loving attention upon Mrs. SIMKINS, who for more than one year and six months, has not been able, unassisted, to leave her couch. Mrs. MARSHALL, the eldest sister, was buried on Friday and Mr. SIMKINS on Saturday; the last of a family of twelve children. The text announced by the pastor, J. E. Williams, epitomizes the life and character of a brother beloved: "He was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith."

Mrs. Lois A. SIMMONS, wife of H. (Henry) E. SIMMONS, passed away very suddenly late Monday night. She leaves beside her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Harold MURDOCK, one sister, Mrs. Ward KENYON, and two grandchildren, Lois and Robert MURDOCK, all of Medina.
The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at three o'clock from her home 401 Park Avenue. Interment at Boxwood Cemetery. The Rev. W. A. Harris will officiate.

The death of Mrs. Martha SIMMONS, aged 62 years, occurred at her home at Shelby Center Monday, October 10th. She leaves to mourn her loss, a son, Clifton J. Dr. Grant H. SIMONDS, 85, dean of Orleans County dentists and one of the oldest practicing dentists in New York State died at 8:15 this morning in the Medina Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for the past two days. Death resulted from a blood clot in his leg which occurred a week ago and which has placed him in a serious condition since that time. Several years ago he lost one leg by amputation because of a similar ailment. He had continued the practice of dentistry since that time, however, despite his physical handicap.
Dr. SIMONDS was born in Akron, N.Y., May 3, 1975 (1865), the son of the late Egbert B. and Arvilla TIMMERMAN SIMONDS; his father was a native of Barre and one of the pioneer families of the section. He was graduated from the Akron schools and the Medical College of the University of Buffalo in 1884, and practiced medicine in Akron and surrounding area for several years. Returning to the University of Buffalo to study dentistry he was graduated from the Dental College in 1895 and came to Medina where he opened an office and has continued his practice since that time.
He was the author of several articles on dental practice during his professional career, one of which was translated into French, and he has appeared numerous times before national and state dental groups to read articles on advancements he had perfected in the practice. Dr. Simonds identified himself with the local military unit, joining the 29th Separate Company June 27, 1895, as its medical officer and served for a duration of 27 years as medical officer of the local company and as battalion medical officer for 12 years. He held the rank of captain. He resigned his commission when the local company left for service on the Mexican Border. He rejoined the company in 1919 and served as medical officer to Co. F 108th Inf., until 1925.
He was one of the oldest members in point of membership of Medina Lodge of Elks. Joining the local lodge a few months after it was instituted in 1904 he served as exalted ruler in 1909-1910 and was the senior past exalted ruler of the lodge in which he held Honorary Life Membership. He was a member of Medina Lodge of Masons and several dental associations.
Dr. SIMONDS was married twice. His first wife was the former Jeanette BAILEY whose death occurred in 1934. He married for his second wife, Mrs. Mary DUHURST SIMONDS of Middleport who survives him, together with one son, E. B. SIMONDS of Lockport; also a niece, Mrs. Mable MONTGOMERY of Medina, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 from the Hartt Funeral Home, Pearl Street. Burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery.
Funeral services for Dr. Grant H. SIMONDS, whose death occurred in Medina Memorial Hospital on December 21, were held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the Hartt Funeral Home. The Rev. Gail Bascombe, pastor of the Universalist Church of Middleport conducted the services and burial was in Boxwood Cemetery. Honorary bearers were officers and past officers of Medina Lodge of Elks of which Dr. SIMONDS was the senior past exalted ruler. They included John Gottovi, Lee S. Skinner, Alonzo L. Waters, George H. Spears, Elwyn Lindsay, Richard Cook, Joseph R. Menke and John A. Walsh. Members of the Orleans County Dental Society attended in a body.
Surviving were his widow, Mrs. Mary DEWHIRST SIMONDS, a son, E. B. SIMONDS of Lockport; a granddaughter, Mrs. Gertrude BIRCH of Middleport; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Elizabeth DEWHIRST KINGSBURY of Valley Stream, L. I.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Yates: Cornelius Smith SIMONSON died at his home, on Friday of last week. Mr. SIMONSON was born in the town of Sennet, this state, October 16, 1825. With the exception of a few years he has always lived in this county. He leaves a wife (Lillian) and two children - Alden SIMONSON, of Oak Orchard, and Mrs. SINGLETON of Jeddo. The funeral services were held at the family home, on Sunday, Rev. H. E. Miles officiating.

The death of Mrs. Irving SIMPKINS aged 77 years occurred at the Medina Memorial Hospital Monday morning following an operation. She is survived by a son, Walter MILLARD, a step-son, Charles SIMPKINS of Medina and two brothers, and two sisters living in the West. The remains were taken Monday evening to her old home in Lake Mills, Wis. where the funeral will be held at the home of her brother, Frank FOOTE. Her sons accompanied the remains.

Local Woman Dies, Four Seriously Injured in Crash
Highway tragedy struck an entire Medina family late yesterday afternoon at Hamburg
and a head-on crash of two cars took the life of 46-year-old Althea SIMPSON, wife of
the Rev. Edward SIMPSON, pastor of First Presbyterian Church here. The crash occurred
at 5:10 p.m.
Mrs. SIMPSON succumbed at 2:30 a.m. today in Our Lady of Victory Hospital, Lackawanna, as the result of her injuries, including fractured legs, internal injuries and facial fractures. The Rev. Mr. SIMPSON is hospitalized at Lackawanna with a broken leg, dislocated right hip and severe bruises. Their son, Edward, 20, of the U.S. Marine Corps, driver of the car, is seriously hurt in the same hospital with a broken leg, broken ribs, face and nose injuries and the possibility of a punctured lung. The Simpson’s daughter, Flora, 14, suffered two broken legs and bruises. All three are expected to recover, although the 20-year-old youth is listed as critical by the hospital.
The driver of the other auto, Ronald A. FEGLEY, 25, of May Dr., Hamburg, was unconscious several hours with a head injury and multiple cuts of the leg and neck. His condition is given as fair.
The Medina family had been enroute to the home of Mr. SIMPSON’s brother, Martin L. SIMPSON, near Hamburg, and were only about a mile from their destination when the disaster struck. Twenty-year-old Edward had arrived home from his Marine Corps duties at Cherry Point, N D. early Saturday morning and the four were on a holiday trip to visit their relatives. Police Chief Floyd BARNES of the Town of Hamburg said the crash occurred in a two-lane section of Clark St. between McKinley Pkwy. and South Park Ave. which is a county road. He said the highway was dry and the weather clear. The autos were totally wrecked as they met front-to-front and police were unable to establish a cause. The Medina family was pinned in their car and tow trucks pulled the two machines apart to free them. Mrs. SIMPSON was partially thrown from the car.
The SIMPSON family, during more than a decade of residence in Medina, had been prominently known, particularly in church circles. Their home is at 300 Park Av. Mrs. SIMPSON was born in Brookline, Mass., Nov. 17, 1911, and had been active in women’s work of the Presbyterian Church here. She had taught in the Sunday School, was at one time senior choir director, often served as an organist and had directed church dramatic works. She had taught at times in the Medina school system. Personally interested in music and painting, her activities were curtailed by illness in recent years and she had been making a good recovery from that illness within the past year. The Rev. Mr. SIMPSON had held a pastorate in Rochester before they came to Medina.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Edward J. SIMPSON; one daughter, Flora, at home; one son, Edward J. SIMPSON Jr., in Marine Corps service; also, one brother, Roger F. PERRY of Taranus, N.J. Friends may call tomorrow afternoon at the Barnes-Tuttle Funeral Home, Pearl St. The Rev W. C. Crofts of Medina will conduct a funeral service at 2 p.m Wednesday at the funeral home and the body will be sent Wednesday evening to Bookout Funeral Home, Oneonta. Funeral services will be held in Oneonta at 2 p.m. Friday with burial in Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
Floral tributes will be accepted and also those who desire may make contributions to the Presbyterian Church building fund.
The SIMPSON's son, Edward, was graduated from Medina High School in 1955 and had been active in football, basketball and baseball, as well as orchestra and choir. The daughter, Flora, is now a freshman at Medina High School.

Samuel SIMPSON, 72, died in Albion Hospital Wednesday after a long illness. He was a former resident of Medina. Surviving are his sister, Mrs. Belle HOUSE of Middleport, and four nieces.
Friends may call at the Christopher Funeral Home, 354 W. State St., Albion, where services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. William Youngman officiating. Burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery in Medina.

Allan T. SINCLAIR, 64, died this morning after a brief illness at the home of his sister, Miss Grace M. SINCLAIR, 317 Park Ave. He was born in Rochester, the son of the late Albert and Mary McCONNELL SINCLAIR, and he had lived in Medina most of his life time. Mr. SINCLAIR had been employed by the State of New York at the Medina Armory.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Rolland BIRCH of Elizabeth St.; his sister, Miss SINCLAIR with whom he made his home since the death of his wife in 1955. Also one brother, Stanley SINCLAIR of Medina; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Sinclair was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Medina Lodge of Elks, having served as Exalted Ruler, and a past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a veteran of World War I, serving with Company F 108th Infantry.
Friends may call at the Thibault Funeral Home, South Main St., where a prayer service will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday followed by a requiem mass at 9 o’clock at St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

While friends were preparing for burial the body of Mrs. A. S. J. Root, of West Kendall, who died from coal gas asphyxiation, queer noises were heard in the adjoining house. An investigation revealed that George SIPPEL, an aged resident, was suffering from terrible pains in the stomach. He died an hour afterward.

Funeral services for Mrs. Stanley SIUTA, 49, of Oak Street will be held tomorrow at the Sacred Heart Church at 9:00 a.m. Mrs. Siuta died at the Park Avenue Hospital, Rochester, Friday afternoon following an operation.
Besides her husband Stanley, her only survivor is a sister, Mrs. Katherine NABRZESKI of Merchantville, New Jersey. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Stanley SIUTA, 66, 109 Oak St., died yesterday morning at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, where he had been a patient for two weeks. His death foIlowed an illness of four or five months. Mr. SIUTA was a member of Sacred Heart Church and Sacred Heart Society, and several years ago was employed at the Sacred Heart Club on N. Gravel Rd.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Catherine NABIZZEWSKI of Merchantsville, N. J.; a cousin Mrs. Stella DULEMBA of Medina, and nieces and nephews including Thaddeus DULEMBA, formerly of Medina. Friends are to be received at his late home.

LeRoy James SKINNER, 77, senior member of the law firm of Skinner & Skinner, with offices in the Cook Building, and long a leading citizen of Medina, died shortly after seven o'clock this morning in his 238 West Center Street home. Death was the result of a heart attack and he apparently died instantly.

Four Deaths in a Sad Accident at Knowlesville.
Seldom has the people of this entire community been so shocked as on Sunday
afternoon last when the sad news came of the accident at Knowlesville when the lives
of four young people were sacrificed and two homes made the scene of mourning.
It is difficult to find an explanation of the accident itself but the facts
in the case are stated as follows: The automobile owned and driven by
Alfred J. SKINNER was preceeding southward up Main street in Knowlesville where the
occupants, Mr. SKINNER and his three daughters, Mildred aged 18, Helen aged 12 and
Dorothy aged 10. - and Marion HARDING aged 14 and Herschel her brother aged 10, only
children of Mr. and Mrs. Chester M. HARDING, Jr., -had attended Sunday School; a passenger
trolley had a few minutes before gone east past the crossing, an express trolley was
coming round the curve west of the depot which is the only obstruction to the view up
the track from the brick church up to the crossing. All sorts of claims are made as to
the blame for the accident, and it is hard to gather the truth of the matter. The
trolley car was at any rate a through one and did not stop at Knowlesville. The impact
was sudden and severe. The large automobile, a six cylinder, seven passenger Cole, was
struck on the rear of the tonneau and was turned completely around, landing against a
stone retaining wall on the southeast corner of the crossing. The body of the car was
wrecked. Herschel HARDING was carried with the auto and his head was crushed against
the stone wall, Mildred and Helen SKINNER were thrown some distance, Marion HARDING was
found, with her neck broken, near the wreck of the automobile while Mr. SKINNER and
Dorothy were thrown clear of the wreckage, both sustaining bad bruises and lacerations.
Helen SKINNER died shortly after 3 o'clock in the Medina Hospital whither she had been
rushed on the trolley car which struck the auto. The other three were instantly killed.
An investigation into the accident is to be made by the Public Service Commission it is reported. Car stopping tests were made Monday afternoon by railroad officials and representatives of the Public Service Commission, the same car No. 301, being used. Coroner Munson is to hold an inquest this Thursday afternoon when it is expected that the officials of the road and experts will be among the witnesses to be examined.

Two double funerals with a single burial service at Mt. Albion Cemetery were held yesterday for the four victims of the accident. The funeral of the two children of Mr. and Mrs. HARDING was held at 1:30 from the home, and that of the two SKINNER children at 2 o’clock, Rev. C. A. Lawrence, pastor of Knowlesville Presbyterian Church, officiating. At the single committal service at Mount Albion, the four little victims were buried at the same time on neighboring plots. Schoolmates acted as bearers.

Rites Held for Medinan Victim of Auto Accident
Funeral services were held at 2:00 this afternoon for Robin Cole SKINNER, 23, only son of
Village Attorney and Mrs. Lee J. SKINNER of Salt Works Rd., who was the victim of an auto
tragedy on Route 31, near Knowlesville early Saturday morning.
The youth’s car went out of control while traveling eastward on a stretch of state highway currently in the midst of resurfacing work. The sedan rolled over three times after wheels on one side dropped off a six-inch variance in the surface where the shoulder had not yet been rebuilt. The driver, traveling alone, was apparently thrown clear of the wrecked machine as it skidded for some distance on its top. He was dead when found an hour later, after suffering a fractured skull.
State Troopers Nicholas FITZAK and William RECKTENWALD of the Albion substation said the victim was going eastward along Route 31, half a mile west of the Knowlesville bridge and four miles east of Medina. Alter the wheels hit the drop-off, the skid marks indicated that the SKINNER car traveled about 300 feet and made several attempts to get back on the smooth surface. The machine was found on its top, at right angles to the road, only six or eight feet off the pavement.
Young SKINNER had been released a month ago after four years of active duty with the U.S. Navy. He had reached the rank of electronics technician second class and was presently planning to return to college work in the Fall, considering several instutitions, including Buffalo, RPI, Syracuse and Cornell. Prior to his enlistment in the Navy, he had been a sophomore at Clarkson Tech, Potsdam, NY.
The youth was graduated from Medina High School in 1951 after an extremely active high school career. He had been a member of the Student Association Committee, chief justice of the Honor Court, president of the Senior Dramatic Club, member of both the Club Council and Athletic Council, a member of the Legion of Honor. Also a member of the Senior Science Club and Mathematics Club, the Junior Boys Club and Debate Club. He sang with the A Capella Choir, and was a member of the varsity football and track squads.
Survivors include his parents; two sisters, Mrs. Samuel DICK of Medina and Mrs. Barton SMITH of Williamsville; his maternal grandfather, Marc COLE of Albion; nieces and nephews, Karen and Brian DICK in Medina and Leslie SMITH of WillIamsville; also aunts and uncles, Mrs. H. MARKS of Rochester, Ezra COLE of Nyack, Marc Wheeler COLE of Medina, Peter COLE of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. William CRANDALL of Waterport.
Prayer services were held at 1:30 this afternoon at the Barnes-Tuttle Funeral Home, and funeral services at St. John’s Church at 2:00. The Rev. Canon John Wilkinson officiated and burial was in Boxwood Cemetery.

Albion - Ward G. SKINNER 46, a World War 2 veteran, died at the home of his parents here yesterday Oct. 17. He had been a patient at the veteran’s Hospital in Buffalo a few months ago and was to have returned there today for additional treatment. In addition to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ole SKINNER, he is survived by two sons, Francis SKINNER of Buffalo and John SKINNER of Lancaster, California; and one brother, Earl SKINNER of Albion.
Funeral services will be held at the Grinnell Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow with the Rev. Earle I. Hamlin officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary SKOMSKI, a resident of Medina for about 40 years, and more recently residing near Buffalo, died early this morning at her home, 219 Helen St., Cheektowaga. Born in Poland (nee KOTERAS) she married Stanislaus SKOMSKI of Medina, now deceased, and lived on Hoffman Rd. The last 12 years of her life were spent in Cheektowaga. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church of Medina and of Sacred Heart Rosary Society.
Services are to be held at 9:30 Monday morning at the residence of a son, Watson SKOMSKI, 101 Laurel St., Medina, and at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In addition to the son, Watson, of Medina, she is survived by another son, August, of Middleport; three daughters, Mrs. Martha PEROSKI of Buffalo, Mrs. Jennie KOZMINSKI of Buffalo and Mrs. Mary PASNIK of Medina; one brother, Joseph KOTERAS of Medina; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Watson P. SKOMSKI of 101 Laurel St., died last evening at Medina Memorial Hospital where he was taken after being stricken suddenly during the evening. He was a lifelong resident of this vicinity and had been employed as an upholsterer at S. A. Cook and Co. for more than forty-five years. Mr. SKOMSKI was a member of Sacred Heart Church, and of the Holy Name Society and the Sacred Heart Society of that church.
Survivors include his wife Katherine, at home; one daughter, Mrs. Thomas BOYCE of Bigford Road; three sons, Stanley and Walter SKOMSKI of N. Tonawanda and Watson SKOMSKI of Akron. Also, one brother, Gus SKOMSKIof Middleport; three sisters, Mrs. Martha PEROWSKI of West Seneca, Mrs. Jennie KOZMINSKI of Cheektowaga and Mrs. Mary PASNIK of Hoffman Road.
Friends will be received at his late home, Laurel St., where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, followed by a funeral mass at 10 o’clock at Sacred Heart Church. The Rev. Joseph RYDZ will officiate and burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Dennis Skoutt (SKUTT), aged 85 years, and a lifelong resident of the town of Kendall, died on Thursday afternoon. Mr. SKUTT suffered a stroke of paralysis about nineteen months ago.

Mrs. Sarah SKUTT, aged 67 years died Wednesday at the home in Middleport. She is survived by a son, Simon SKUTT of Middleport, two brothers, David CLUTE of Middleport and Jacob CLUTE of Lyndonville, two sisters, Mrs. Richard RAY of Somerset and Mrs. Eliza CULVER of Michigan. The funeral was held today at two o'clock. Burial in Lynhaven Cemetery.

John B. SLACK, aged 54 years, passed away Sunday morning at his home on Prospect avenue after a long illness. He was a member of the Knights of Colombus fourth degree. Miss Louise SLACK died quite suddenly of apoplexy on Friday afternoon last. Deceased had been employed as saleslady for many years with Landauer Brothers and was highly esteemed by a wide circle of acquaintances. Her sudden passing away was a great shock to many friends. She is survived by five brothers and two sisters. The funeral was held from St. Mary’s Church Monday morning.

Mrs. Mary I. SLACK, widow of James V. SLACK, Sr., died late last night at Medina Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since Sunday. Born in Medina, she was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She had resided for many years at 400 West Avenue.
Surviving are three sons, Robert M., James V. Jr., and Howard B., all of Medina; two grandchildren; one brother, Leo E. COLLINS of Lyndonville, and a sister, Miss Marjorie COLLINS of Medina.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the O'Reilly Funeral Home, East Center Street, with a short service of blessing at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Due to Holy Week this week the funeral Mass will be held next Monday at 10 am. at St. Mary's Church.

The funeral of the late Michael SLACK will be held Wednesday - tomorrow - at 10:30 a. m. at St. Mary’s church, instead of at ten o’clock, as previously announced.
Michael SLACK died at his home No. 400 West avenue, Sunday afternoon last after an illness of several months of cancer. In the hope of effecting a cure, Mr. SLACK went to Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md., last November to take the radium treatment. Following the return to his home, he had been confined to the house.
Mr. SLACK was born in County Sligo, Ireland, on August 11, 1840, and came to this country in 1850. He started his business career as a clerk in a grocery store. In 1862 he enlisted as volunteer in the Seventeenth New York Independent Battery and served in the Army of the Potomac until the close of the war. Returning to civil life in 1865, Mr. SLACK entered the employ of the Merchants Union Express Company, in whose service he remained until 1871 when he began a prosperous grocery business. A few years later, he and a brother organized the grocery firm of M. & J. Slack, from which he retired a few years ago. Mr. SLACK was also interested in the quarring business in various capacities. He was one of Medina's most progressive and energetic citizens, honorable and conscientious in all his dealings.
He was vice president of the Medina Savings and Loan Association and a director of the Union Bank, he served for nine years as trustee of this village and for fifteen years was a member of its Board of Education. He was a member of the Medina Chamber of Commerce, a charter member of Branch No. 10, C. M. B. A., of which he was the first financial officer and third president, a member of Hood Post, G, A. R., the Catholic Mutual Benefit Legion, Medina Conneil, Knights of Columbus, and St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Mr. SLACK was married in 1870 to Miss Kate DOLAN, who died several years ago. Three of his six children are living - B. Edward, Thomas and James V. SLACK, all of this village. He leaves, besides these children, three sisters, Mrs. Mary EAGIN, of Medina; Sister McQUEENS, Order of Charity, New York, and Miss Beza SLACK, of Denver, and a brother, James SLACK, of Denver. The funeral occurred at St. Mary's Church yesterday morning, Rev. Thomas Gleason officiating.

The death of Thomas Joseph SLACK, 67, lifelong resident of Medina, occurred Wednesday night in his home at 111 East Center Street. Mr. Slack, who lived alone in an apartment in the Kutner Building, was missed by other tenants of the building yesterday and last night an entry was made to his apartment where he was found lying partially dressed on his bedroom floor. Coroner LaVerne F. WATERS was called and he stated that he had apparently been dead for a 24 hour period. Death was due to cerebral hemorrhage.
Mr. SLACK was born in Medina on May 9, 1882, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs John (Mary LYSTER) SLACK. He attended Medina public and high school and following his graduation entered the employ of the Geballe’s clothing store and later continuing with the J. D. Lott Company. He entered the employ of Anderson Motors a number of years ago and has continued with them since that time.
Surviving are a sister, Miss Gertrude SLACK, Medina, and three brothers, Charles P. SLACK of Medina, Raymond SLACK of Albany and Francis SLACK of Rochester. The body is resting at the home of his brother, Charles P. SLACK, 413 Catherine Street. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 9 p m. in St. Mary’s Church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

The death of John SLADE, a veteran of the Civil War and for fifty-four years a resident of this place, occurred at his home about two miles north of this village on Sunday, March 21st. Mr. SLADE was born in Farmington, Ontario County, N. Y., November 9, 1831, and was married to Susan A. LYMAN, of Palmyra, N. Y., in 1854. He served in Company D, 97th Regiment N. Y. Vols. for two years and was a member of Hood Post No. 91, G.A.R. He leaves beside his widow, one son, W. E. SLADE, of Battle Creek, Mich., and one daughter, Mrs. Burt APPLIN, of this place, and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth HOAG, of Kendall, and Mrs. Sarah HOTCHKISS, of Whitewater, Wis.

Joseph SLAWSKI, 70, of Commercial St. died Friday afternoon in Medina Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Poland. Mr. SLAWSKI, a member of the Sacred Heart Church and of the Sacred Heart Society since 1921, filled his leisure hours with vegetable gardening since his retirement from Medina Iron and Brass Foundry.
Survivors include his wife, Victoria; two daughters, Anna and Martha; two sons, John and Edward, all of Medina; also several nieces and nephews. Prayer services will be held tomorrow at 8:45 a. m. at the Gulinski Funeral Home, 420 Eagle St. A funeral mass will be said at 9 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Joseph RYDZ officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Charles H. SLEASTER, of Brockport, a young man who for the past few weeks has been employed as clerk in the store of W. G. Skinner, of this place, committed suicide Saturday night in his room at the Bancroft House, where he boarded. An empty bottle which had contained morphine, a small bottle which had contained some kind of liquor, and two letters were found on a chair near the bed.
After closing the store for the night, he went to his room at the hotel. During the night some of the occupants of adjoining rooms heard his heavy breathing, but thought nothing of it. Sunday morning about eight o'clock he was called to breakfast, but did not get up. Soon after one of the boarders went to his room and after knocking on the door and calling to him and receiving no answer, looked over the transom. Appearances indicated that all was not right, and calling assistance, an entrance was effected. His condition was very apparent and medical aid summoned, but too late to be of any help, and about twelve o’clock, after lying in an unconscious state several hours, he breathed his last.
Stories are rife as to the cause of the young man's rash act. It is said that two or three times before this he has made an attempt at self destruction, but as to this we know not nor can we learn any reason. He was fine appearing and gentlemanly in his every day life, and no one not personally acquainted with hime and his habits would have surmised that he was an intemperate or immoral young man. It is, however, stated, and his letter to his parents corroborates the fact, that he was addicted to drinking, from which he was trying to reform, and probably in a moment of melancholy did the deed. He had not been well for several days and had just returned Saturday morning from a visit to his parents, who reside in Brockport. He was about twenty five years of age. His remains were taken to Brockport for interment.

Florian Stephen SLEDZIK, 49, a veteran of World War I and for the past 15 years a patient in the Veterans Memorial Hospital, Canandaigua, died in that institution last night after a long illness. The deceased was born in Buffalo, October 6, 1900, and his parents were the late Lukas and Apalone SLEDZIK.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Society of Medina, the Medina Lodge of Moose and the James P. Clark Post of the American Legion. He served in the United States Navy from April 23, 1917 to July 16, 1919. He was employed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. before he entered the hospital.
Surviving are his widow, Cecelia (BIALAS), two daughters, Barbara and Emily and one son, Bernard, all of Medina; five sisters, Mrs. Thomas PAWLACZEK, Mrs. John LINKO, Mrs. Ralph FLETCHER, Mrs. Max SADOWSKI and Mrs. Virginia LUCAS, all of Albion, and one brother Stanley SLEDZIK, also of Albion.
The body is resting at the Thibault Funeral Home, 1008 South Main Street. Funeral arrangements are not complete
Funeral services for the late Florian Stephen SLEDZIK, who died at the Veterans Hospital in Canandaigua, Wednesday, will be held Saturday morning with prayers at the Thibault Funeral Home at eight o'clock and services at the Sacred Heart Church at eight-thirty, the Rev. Anthony KRAWCZYK officiating.
Burial will be in the family plot at Sacred Heart Cemetery and full military services will be conducted by the James P. Clark Post of the American Legion.

Stanley SLEDZIK, 71, of 610 Moore St., died Dec. 19, 1967 in Arnold Gregory Memorial Hospital, after a long illness. Born in Buffalo, he had lived in Albion 63 years. He had been employed as a painter and on the staff of furniture and implement industries in Medina until retirement about seven years ago. He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, St. Mary's Athletic Club, World War I Veterans Orleans County Barracks 259.
Survivors include his widow, Esther LEWANDOWSKI SLEDZIK; four daughters, Mrs. John CELMER, Mrs. John FURMANSKI and Mrs. Lorraine FORTUNE, all of Albion, and Mrs. Helen WENGRZYCKI of Medina; six grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Frances LINKOWSKI, Mrs. Max SADOWSKI, Mrs. Virginia FURMANSKI and Mrs. Bessie FLETCHER, all of Albion. A requiem Mass was celebrated in St. Mary's Church, Friday morning. Internment in New St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

The death of Miss SLEEPER, of Middleport, occurred at the home of her niece, Mrs. Harry JACKSON, East Center Street, Medina, on Sunday last, aged 92 years. The deceased had been a life long resident of Middleport. Mrs. JACKSON is her only relative. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon the Universalist church at Middleport.

Mrs. Mary L. B. SLEEZER
Mrs. Mary LeBARR SLEEZER was born in Rome, N.Y., February 29, 1833*.
While quite a young child, her home was in Orleans Co., where she
grew to young womanhood and where she was married May 10, 1850 to the husband who is
now left alone (Philo SLEEZER). About 1855,
the family moved to Michigan, where they resided for one year only, moving
thence to Illinois, McLean Co. Here they resided for some 17 years.
Twenty-five years ago, the family moved to Cherokee Co., where they have
resided ever since.
To Mr. and Mrs. SLEEZER were born three sons and five daughters. Of these eight children, all are living save one. In Sept. 1877, Mrs. SLEEZER united with the Baptist church. Three years ago, Mrs. SLEEZER was attacked by disease. Slowly but surely it waged its warfare, becoming more and more malignant. She has been a great sufferer for many weary weeks, receiving the faithful attention of him who in early life walked by her side. The weary suffering ended last Thursday morning at ten o'clock, and the "Spirit returned to God who gave it," being 64 years, 9 months and 24 days old.

Mrs. Emma Ruth SLEIGHT, widow of the late Robert W. SLEIGHT, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles RVANS, in the village of Shelby Center, on Tuesday morning, July 10, at the age of 69 years. Mrs. SLEIGHT had been in failing health for about a year, having been confined to her bed for the last three weeks. She leaves to mourn their loss, one brother, C. W. BARTON, of Big Rapids, Mich., one sister, Mrs. Jennie ZIMMERMAN, of Los Angeles, Calif., two children, Mrs. Charles EVANS, of Shelby, and Marvin E. SLEIGHT, of Buffalo, and four grandchildren. Mrs. SLEIGHT was a member of the Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted from her late home Thursday at three o'clock. Interment in Shelby Center Cemetery.

When Mrs. Charles SLY, of Gwinn street, returned home about eight o'clock this morning, after a visit, she found her husband sitting in a chair by the window. She walked up to speak to him and discovered that he was dead. She immediately notified the neighbors and summoned Dr. Charles H. Turner, who made an examination, stating that he believed that Mr. SLY had suffered from heart disease.
Coroner Charles E. Fairman, of Lyndonville was notified and made an examination of the body and talked with Dr. Turner, Mrs. SLY and Paul Jackson in regard to Mr. SLY’s physical condition, and they each told him that Mr. SLY was subject to heart trouble and had doctored for it for several years. As there was not the slightest indication of foul play, or any evidence of death ensuing by his own act, the Coroner announced that he would grant a certificate that death was due to heart disease.
Mr. SLY was one of the best-known men of this place, and for a great many years conducted a high-class barbershop in this village. The deceased was a popular man and had many friends. He is survived by his widow (Alice); one son, Fred C., both of this place; two brothers, Mr. LeVern SLY, of this place, and Mr. John SLY, of Akron, 0., and one sister, Mrs. James CROSSMAN, of this place.
The funeral services of the late Mr. Charles N. SLY will be held at the family residence on North Avenue on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o clock, the Rev. Dr. deGRUCHY officiating. Interment at Boxwood Cemetery. In addition to the surviving family of the late Charles N. SLY, as mentioned in yesterday's JOURNAL, he left one step-son, George SPENCELEY, of this place.

William L. SLY died on Friday afternoon last at the home of his parents, on East Center street, after a brief illness with pneumonia, following an attack of influenza. His age was 37 years. Deceased was a popular young business man, being engaged in the job printing business. His wife (Grace) and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vern SLY, survive. The funeral occurred Saturday afternoon, the body being placed in the vault at Boxwood Cemetery.
