A Medina mother received the tragic news of the death of her soldier son while attending the wedding of a nephew in Buffalo on Friday. While seated at the dinner table Mrs. Florence STACHEWICZ of Allis Road received a cablegram from the War Department informing her that her son, Sgt. Anthony L. STACHEWICZ had died in Germany on August 23 as a result of injuries received while serving with the Army of Occupation.
The Medina man, veteran of two years in Germany during World War II, received fatal injury when he was standing in the rear of an army truck and struck his head on the wall of an underpass receiving a skull fracture. Mrs. STACHEWICZ stated that the War Department had informed her that the body of her son is being returned to Medina by the first available transport.
Mrs STACHEWICZ said today that she had last seen her son three years ago and that she had had a dream of him Monday, two days before his death. In her dream her son had returned home, and she felt that meant he would soon be home, since his three-year enlistment period would have been completed in September.
The Medina soldier, who attended Medina schools, first entered the service on Feb. 19, 1943 and was given an honorable discharge at Fort Dix, N. J., on Dec. 24, 1945, returning home on Christmas Day. Following his discharge he was employed for three years by a local contractor. Upon his reenlistment he asked for immediate overseas duty in Germany.
Besides his mother he leaves a sister, Mrs. Bernice LESCZYNSKI of Medina and three brothers, Joseph and Raymond of Medina and John of Lyndonville, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Military funeral services and a Solemn Requiem mass at Sacred Heart Church will accompany the burial here on Saturday of a Medina soldier, veteran of both World War II and the German occupation periods with over six years of total service, who died as the result of injuries received while he was riding on a military truck last month.
The body of Sgt. Anthony L. STACHEWICZ, 28, will arrive in Medina tonight and will rest at his late home on the Allis Rd. until Saturday. His death occurred in the 10th Field Hospital, Wurzburg, Germany on August 23 resulting from a brain concussion. The day previous to his death he had been standing in the back of a truck when his head struck against an underpass near Kitzinger, Germany.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Grace STACHEWICZ; three brothers, Raymond, Joseph and John, Jr.; one sister, Mrs. Bernice LESCZYNSKI; his grandmother, Mrs. Joseph KUROWSKI, and several uncles and aunts. Services are scheduled Saturday at 10 a. m. from his late home, with a Solemn Requiem mass at Sacred Heart Church at 10:30. Military burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
At the time of his death, the Medina soldier served with the 1st Engineer Combat Battalion. He had spent two years and 10 months in Germany during the occupation period and spent four years in China and Japan during World War II.

Joseph Stack, 55, of 106 Oak Street, died in the Medina Memorial Hospital this morning. He was admitted to the hospital Saturday. A native of Poland, he had made his residence in Medina for many years, and was a member of Sacred Heart Church.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Julia (Nowicki) Stack; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Vahoviak, and Misses Helen and Victoria Stack, all of Medina, and seven sons, Vincent, Stanley, Chester, Henry, Frank, Walter and Edward all at home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 9 o’clock in Sacred Heart Church with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery. The Rev. Max T. Bogacki will officiate.

Mrs. Louise STACEY, 69, wife of Frank STACEY of Gaines, died in a Rochester hospital Friday morning. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, October 20, at 2:30 o'clock from the McNall Funeral Home. The Rev. Irvin Kelley, pastor of the Gaines Congregational Church and the Barre Center Presbyterian Church, officiated.
Burial was in Mt. Albion Cemetery. Mrs. Stacey was a member of the WCTU at Gaines. Surviving besides her husband (Frank T.) are three cousins, Frank PRUSSIA and Nellie P. PAYNE and Gertrude BENNETT of Lockport.

Albion - Irwin S. STAINES, 59, died Wednesday in his home in Barre after a long illness. He was a member of the Albion Free Methodist Church and a member of its board of trustees for several ycars. Friends may call at the Grinnell Funeral Home at 2:30 South Main Street Albion, where the Rev. Stanley MAGILL will conduct services at 2:30 p. m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Lyndonville - The body of T/ Sgt. George Frederick STALKER, son of Mr. and Mrs. George STALKER, 32 Church Street, will arrive at the New York Central depot in Medina this evening, where it will be met by representatives of the Houseman-Tanner Legion Post. It will be escorted to the Smythe Funeral Home, Lyndonville, from where funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. The Rev. Raymond Draffin, post chaplain will officiate with burial at Lynhaven Cemetery, where military rites will be under the direction of the Houseman-Tanner Post.
Born April 8, 1921, in Lyndonville, he attended Lyndonville High School and was a member of the Methodist Sunday School class. Enlisting in Company F. 108th Infantry, National Guard at Medina, in August, 1939, he left with the Company on Oct. 24, 1940, for training at Fort McClellan, Ala. Transferred to Riverside, Calif., on Dec. 13, 1941, he with the Company later went to Fort Ord and left San Francisco in February, 1942. The Company spent one year in Hawaii, then going to New Britain, and in January, 1945, arrived in the Philippines. Sergeant Stalker died on February 14, 1945, in the Philippines, as the result of hepatitis, which he had contracted in that country.
Besides his parents, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Paul BANE of Lyndonville; and five brothers, Alan, Glenn, Richard, Donald and Wayne STALKER, all of Lyndonville.

Relatives in Medina were informed today of the death of Mrs. Margaret STANDISH of Hornell, who passed away suddenly last night in a Hornell hospital following a stroke which she suffered Wednesday morning at her home, Bennett Pkwy., in that city. Widow of the late Lee STANDISH, a former Medina resident, and mother of the late Cleon C. STANDISH, also of Medina, Mrs. STANDISH moved her home from Medina with her husband over 20 years ago.
She had been County Health Nurse of Steuben County until her retirement about five years ago. Since that time she has operated a yarn shop in her home city. She is survived by two Medina people, Mrs. Cleon STANDISH, a daughter-in-law, and Watson STANDISH, a grandson. Also a sister, Mrs. Mabel RILEY, formerly of Albion, now of Hornell; two sons, Victor STANDISH, Beacon, N. Y., and the Rev. Revilo STANDISH, Arlington, Fla., and several other grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were not known here today.

Mrs. Margery E. STANDISH, aged 53 years, wife of Lee M. STANDISH, a prominent West Barre farmer, died Sunday in the garden of their farm home. She was alone and her lifeless body was found where she had been picking tomatoes.

Albion - Funeral arrangements are being made here today for the wife of an Albion postal employee who met death early Sunday morning in a two car crash at the intersection of Saunders Settlement and Town Line Road, in Niagara County, near Niagara Falls.
She is Mrs. Clifford STANDISH, formerly Miss Virginia BIELICKI, the mother of a five-year-old daughter. Her husband, a 32-year-old veteran of World War II and for several years a carrier out of the Albion Post Office is in Memorial Hospital, Niagara Falls, suffering from a brain concussion and face lacerations. Also in serious condition in the same hospital is Armand CORY, 22, an accordion player in the Albion Town Tavern for the past several months.
The accident occurred at 3 a.m. in the Town of Cambria, about half a mile north of Sanborn. Coroner James HEARY of Niagara Falls, who investigated the crash with State Police, said the Albion woman died instantly from a crushed chest and shock.
Police said the STANDISH car, headed east on Route 31, was struck in the left rear by a car driven by John Michael OWENS, 28, of North Tonawanda, sending the STANDISH car out of control, crashing against a tree. OWENS and his wife were only slightly injured.
Mrs. STANDISH was the daughter of Mrs. Harold McMURRAY of the Allen Road and the late Charles BIELICKI. She was married to STANDISH in December 1944 following his discharge from the United States Army.
The STANDISHES are believed to have gone to Niagara Falls for the evening Saturday and had left their daughter Karen, 5, with her grandmother, Mrs. McMURRAY. They were returning to Albion when the accident happened. Mrs. STANDISH's body was brought to the Merrill Funeral Home at 134 East State Street, Albion, yesterday afternoon.
Besides her husband, daughter and mother she leaves a sister, Mrs. Dorothy DONAHUE; a brother, Lawrence BIELICKI, and a half-brother, Harvey McMURRAY, all of Albion, as well as cousins and nephews.

They are survived by a five-year-old daughter, Karen. Mrs. STANDISH leaves a sister, Mrs. Jack DONAHUE, and a brother, Lawrence BIELICKI, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold McMURRAY, all of Albion. Mr. STANDISH is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard (& Bessie) STANDISH, two sisters, Lillian and Leola STANDISH, and a brother, Leon STANDISH, all of Albion.

LYNDONVILLE - Bela L. STANGLAND, a native of Kendall, died in St. Petersburg, Fla., Saturday at the age of 91. His wife, the former Emma PARSONS, died more than 20 years ago. Until his retirement, Mr. STANGLAND had resided in Rochester where he was engaged as a building contractor. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Edith) BALTERIC of Akron, Ohio, and the former Ada STANGLAND; one nephew, Paul PARSONS of Lyndonville; several distant relatives in this area. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Lynhaven Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Howard Warriner, pastor of Lyndonville Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Barnes-Tuttle Funeral Home, 226 Pearl Street, where the body is resting, for Andrew B. STANLEY, 61, who died unexpectedly Saturday. The Rev. Edward SIMPSON, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, will officiate and burial will be in Tanner Cemetery.
Mr. STANLEY, known to a wide circle of friends as 'Budge', was having dinner at the Moose Club on West Avenue Saturday where he suffered a heart seizure and apparently died within a few minutes. He was removed to the Medina Memorial Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival. Coroner Walter SHIFTON of Albion was called and issued a certificate of death due to natural causes.
Born in Knowlesville, January 20, 1897, the son of George and Minnie BAILEY STANLEY, he resided in Medina and this vicinity his entire lifetime. He had been a salesman for the California Spray Chemical Company for the past 20 years. He was a member of Medina Lodge of Masons, Medina Lodge of Moose and Medina Lodge of Elks.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Minnie STANLEY, 136 State Street, with whom he made his home, a brother, W. Harry STANLEY, one niece Bonnie Jean STANLEY and a nephew, William Robert STANLEY, all of Medina.

The remains of George N. STANLEY, who died in Detroit on Thursday last, were brought here for burial on Saturday. The deceased was for many years a resident of this place, belonging to Medina lodge, No. 336, F. and A. M., under whose auspices the funeral was conducted at the residence of his sister Miss Belle M. STANLEY. He was 82 years of age.

Mrs. Carrie STANTON of Fletcher Chapel, died last night in the age of 50 in Albion. She leaves two children, Leta and LeVern of Medina. Her husband, Charles STANTON, died in March 1937. One sister, Mrs. Sarah WILSON of Lockport.

Mrs. Kate STANTON, an old resident of this village, died at the Mary Louise Hospital last Thursday at midnight, of cancer. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon with interment in Boxwood Cemetery.
Mrs. STANTON's death has revealed many peculiar characteristics in her past life, and the names of some of the beneficiaries of her will have created somewhat of a sensation in town. Mrs. Stanton had lived alone for years in a big brick house on West avenue, and seldom, if ever, did her few remaining relatives call to see her. Neighbors who had come to know her well were wont to bring her many delicacies, and to them, it now seems, she has left part of her estate estimated at from $15,000 to $20,000.
Some of the local beneficiaries are: Miss Jessie Castle, $500; Mrs. Maxwell, $500; R. Stanley Brainard, $500; Mrs. B. J. Cummings, $500; Thomas Rooney, $2,500; Miss Melsa Cummings, piano and quantity of household effects. Mr. Rooney, who had been employed by Mrs. Stanton for a number of years, in addition to money, is given the liquor store that she owned in Buffalo. George A. Newell was named as the executor.

Jerome F. STANTON, 28, World War II veteran, died at nine o’clock last night in Medina Memorial Hospital as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Mr. STANTON shot himself in the head with a .22 caliber pistol shortly after 5 o’clock last night in the home of his father, John STANTON, Sr., 932 Orient Street. Mr. STANTON, an employee of Wolcott Dairy, is said to have committed the act in a fit of despondency. He resided with his wife and three children at Shelby Center.
The deceased was born in Knowlesville. His parents were John and Martha HALL STANTON. He had been a resident of Medina and Shelby for a number of years. Coroner Kenneth CLARK issued a certificate of death by suicide.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dorothy (GREEN) STANTON; three children, Danny Ray, Beverly Ann and Douglass George of Shelby Center; his parents; a sister, Mrs. John SLOPER of Medina and two brothers, Airman 1/c Robert STANTON, Sampson Air Field and Cpl. Eugene STANTON, Fort Monmouth, N.J.
The body is resting at the Thibault Funeral Home, South Main Street from where services will be held Friday, July 17 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Edward Simpson will officiate and burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery. Military honors will be given at the grave under the auspices of local veteran organizations.

Albion - Coroner John G. ELLIS attributed cerebral hemorrhage as the cause of the few hour fatal illness to nine year old Thomas Duane STARCH, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley STARCH, Jr., of this village whose death occurred unexpectedly at 2 p.m. yesterday in Arnold Gregory Hospital where he had been admitted a few hours earlier.
Complaining of not feeling well the boy remained home from school in the morning. He was taken to the hospital a few hours later where he succumbed. Besides his parents he is survived by three sisters, Joanne, Sandra and Joyce; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley STARCH, Sr. of Albion and his maternal grandfather, George SADLER of Waterport.
Funeral services will be held in the family home, 66 Orchard Street, tomorrow morning at 8:30 followed by a mass at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Mrs. Jemmie PRATT STARING, 81, widow of Charles E. STARING, died last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Laverne ACKERSON, Millville, following a long illness.
Born May 25, 2866 at East Shelby, she was the daughter of the late Jesse H. and Sarah SMITH PRATT. Mrs. STARING had resided in this vicinity her entire lifetime. Her husband, the late Charles E. STARING, for many years in the insurance business in Medina, died in 1938. Mrs. STARING was a member of Welcome Rebekah Lodge.
Her only survivor is her daughter, Mrs. Laverne ACKERSON. Funeral services will be held from the Hartt Funeral Home, Pearl Street, on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'vlock, with the Rev. Reginald Cory of the Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Millville Cemetery.

Mrs. A. STARKWEATHER died at the residence of her son, A. T. Starkweather, in Eagle Harbor, on the 26th ult., aged 82 years. She came into this county with her husband in 1831.

Word was received here today of the death of Mrs. Amanda STARKWEATHER which occurred at her home at Port Byron. She is survived by one son, William STARKWEATHER of Port Byron. The remains will be brought to Medina Monday (5 Mar 1923) at 1:30 and put in the Boxwood Vault.

Seth STARKWEATHER, a well known Eagle Harbor resident, was run over by an east bound car of the Buffalo, Lockport and Rochester Railway Company at Allen's crossing about eight o'clock last night, and instantly killed. The remains were brought to Medina and taken to the undertaking rooms of O'Rielly & Son.
Mr. STARKWEATHER went to Albion yesterday afternoon, and came back to visit his son who resides between Knowlesville and Eagle Harbor, a short distance from the Allen crossing station. Mr. STARKWEATHER stayed some time at his son's residence and left with them, he to take a car back to Eagle Harbor and his son and daughter-in-law to Albion. As they were standing near the shelter station, the car approached from the west, and, in some unexplainable manner, the elder man stepped onto the track as though he intended to board the car from the opposite side. Before he could get off the track the car ran onto him, grinding him underneath the wheels.
Just as soon as possible the motorman backed up and he and the conductor and a few passengers ran to the rescue, but the injuries were too serious and the man was dead when picked up. The body was brought to Medina, and Coroner Charles E. FAIRMAN, of Lyndonville, notified. Dr. FAIRMAN reviewed the remains, and has ordered an inquest, which is being held at the village hall this afternoon. Until the real circumstances are brought out at the inquest the blame for the death cannot be placed.
Deceased was fifty-seven years of age and is survived by a widow (Jennie) and three sons. In tomorrow's issue the proceedings and testimony taken before the Coroner will be published.

Coroner Charles E. Fairman, of Lyndonville, has rendered his verdict in the case of the death of Seth E. STARKWEATHER, who was killed at Allen's crossing east of Knowlesville, on the 21st instant. The Coroner says that death was due to being hit by a trolley car of the B., L.& R. Company, but attaches no blame to the motorman, who did not see the man standing beside the track until the car was almost upon him, and it was then running about fifty miles an hour.
I find that Seth E. Starkweather, of Eagle Harbor, New York, came to his death at Allen’s crossing, west of Eagle Harbor, November 21, 1910, about 7:45 P. M. from a compound comminuted fracture of the skull and the resultant brain injuries. Said fracture and results having been produced by being struck by train 23 of the Buffalo, Lockport and Rochester Railway Company in charge of Michael J. Mahoney, motorman, and Lester O’Brien, conductor. I find no negligence on the part of Motorman Mahoney or Conductor O’Brien. I find that the accident was due to carelessness on the part of Seth E. Starkweather.

A week ago last Saturday (12 Aug 1876), Lew STARR, of Medina, in an epileptic fit, fell down an embankment and was so badly injured that he died on Thursday (17 Aug 1876).

Mrs. Bertha STAWICKI, 60, of Maple Ridge Road, died suddenly last evening at the Medina Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Mrs. STAWICKI who was born in Poland, had lived most of her lifetime on the Maple Ridge Road. Her husband, Joseph, died 10 years ago. Mrs. (Joseph) Stawicki was a member of the Sacred Heart Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Leslie (Josephine) BOUDREAU of Lockport, Mrs. Richard (Mary) GARRETT, Mrs. George (Teresa) WHITE of Middleport and Mrs. Michael (Betty) FERRI; four sons, Vincent, John, Thomas and Anthony; also twelve grandchildren; three brothers; Stanley and Frank KONOPA of Buffalo and Andrew KONOPA of Depew; one sister, Mrs. Walter JARMUSZ of Buffalo and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Gulinski Funeral Home 420 Eagle St., at 8:45 a.m. Saturday and at 9:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Joseph STAWICKI, 63, of the Ryan Road, died Saturday in the Genesee Hospital, Rochester, following a short illness. A communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Mr. Stawicki was a member of Sacred Heart Society.
Surviving are his wife, Bertha (KONOPA); four daughters, Mrs. Josephine BOUDREAU of Medina, and Mary, Teresa, and Betty STAWICKI all at home; four sons, Vincent, John, Thomas and Anthony, all of Medina; one granddaughter; and brother, Felix STAWICKI of Medina. Another son, Walter STAWICKI, was killed in action in France on Feb. 10, 1945.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 9:30 o’clock from his late residence, and at 10 o’clock at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Pvt. Walter STAVICKI Missing, Died Result Of Wounds In Action
Previously reported as missing in action in France since Feb. 7, 1945, Pvt.
Walter STAVICKI, 19, died of wounds in Germany on Feb. 10, 1945, his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph STAVICKI, Ryan Road, have been informed by a
War Department telegram. Entering service July 27, 1944, he trained at Camp
Joseph T. Robinson, Ark., and Fort George G. Meade, Md. Serving with an
Infantry Division, Private STAVICKI went overseas in January 1945, and was
reported missing one month later.
Born March 12, 1928 in Medina, Private STAVICKI was educated at Sacred Heart School and School District 15. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church.
Surviving, besides his parents, are four brothers, Anthony, John, Thomas, and Vincent; three sisters, Josephine WOODROE, Theresa and Elizabeth STAVICKI, all of Medina; also his grandmother, Mrs. Catherine KONOPA of Buffalo. Funeral services for Private STAVICKI will be held on Monday morning, at 8 o’clock at Sacred Heart Church.

Albion- Mrs. Josephine STAWNIAK, 90-year-old mother of Mrs. George PAUL of Albion, died in the home of her daughter at 302 East State Street Tuesday night. Born in Poland she was a resident here for many years and was a member of St. Mary’s Church of Albion and of the Rosary and Sacred Heart societies of that church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. PAUL and Mrs. John TRUE, both of Albion, two sons, Louis and Henry of Detroit, Mich.; 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral will be held in Paul residence tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. and St. Mary's Church at 9 a.m. with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Valentine STAWNIAK, 76, died at his home in this village Saturday. He was born in Posen, Germany, and came to this country 43 years ago.
He leaves his widow (Josephine), two daughters, Mrs. George PAUL and Mrs. John TRUE, Albion; four sons, Frank of East Shelby, Lewis, Henry and John of Detroit; 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from St Mary's Church. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

James Rodna STEBBINS died Monday morning at his home on Juniper street, Lockport, after a long illness. He was formerly city health inspector and carpenter-contractor. Mr. STEBBINS, who was 72 years old, is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Carl HELENBOLT, of Medina, and one grandson, Kenneth HELENBOLT, also of Medina.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Joseph Mason officiating. Burial was in Chestnut Ridge Cemetery.

Holley - Mrs. Frances (PEASE) STEELE, 86, mother of the Orleans County veterans service officer, Oren C. STEELE, of Holley, died yesterday, Dec. 8, in Genesee Memorial Hospital in Batavia. She was a native of Batavia and lifelong resident there, and was the widow of Oren C. STEELE, Sr.
She leaves two other sons, Robert STEELE of Batavia and Francis STEELE of Evanston, Illinois; also two grandsons, and a granddaughter.
Friends may call at the H. E. Turner Co. Mortuary in Batavia this afternoon and evening. Services will be held there at 2 p.m. tomorrow, with burial in Batavia Cemetery.

At the home of Mr. and Mrs. John H. STEIN, who reside on a farm located about four miles south of this village, yesterday afternoon their 4 year old daughter, Nellie May, was playing in an upper room of their residence while the mother was busily engaged in one of the lower rooms. Mrs. STEIN heard her daughter scream and running upstairs found the child's body enveloped in flames. She grabbed her in her arms and, hurrying downstairs, ran out on the front steps. There chanced to be an automobilist going by the house who stopped his machine and ran up and threw a robe around the body of the girl. He made a hurried run with the child to the office of Dr. J. Fred Eckerson at Shelby Center, when everything possible was done to save the child's life. She was made as comfortable as possible and removed to her home, where she died at a late hour last night.
Nellie May STEIN, the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. STEIN, who resided on the Albert R. Martin farm in the town of Shelby, was fatally burned about seven o'clock Sunday evening. The little child, who was but four years of age, was discovered by her mother in an upper room in the house, her clothes all ablaze and in terrible agony. Mrs. STEIN hastily grabbed the child and ran down stairs when her cries attracted the attention of Charles Rourick who was passing with his automobile, and who stopped his machine, and seizing his lap robe, rushed to the house and wrapped the child in it, extinguishing the flames. He then started for medical assistance with the child in his car. Little real relief could be given the child and she was removed to her home where she died early Monday morning.
The little girl was playing with matches and in some manner lighted them, setting fire to her clothing. Dr. Eckerson issued a certificate of death from accidental injuries, and the funeral occurred Tuesday afternoon, with burial at Royalton, N. Y.

Walter J. STEINHORST, 55, expired in St. Jerome's Hospital, Batavia, early this morning after a lingering illness. He had been a patient of the Hospital for the past four weeks. Born in Alabama, N. Y., the son of the late Augustave and Minnie ZEIBERT STEINHORST, he had spent the greater part of his life in Medina, moving with his family to West Barre about nine years ago.
Besides his wife Gladys GALE STEINHORST, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Wilbur PARSONS of Albion; one son, Walter Gale STEINHORST of Akron; one sister, Mrs. Fred POCKELWALDT of Medina; one brother, George STEINHORST of Lockport; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Thibault Funeral Home, South Main Street after Saturday morning and services will be conducted from there Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev. Glenn Brewster of the West Barre Methodist Church. Burial will be made in the family plot at North Shelby Cemetery.

Lyndonville - George Ary STELIANOU, 31, one of two men injured in a New Year’s Day auto crash on Route 63 near this village, died in Medina Memorial Hospital shortly before 11 p. m. last night. He succumbed to critical hurts sustained when his automobile crashed headlong into a halted milk truck operated by Kenneth Houseman, 57, County Line Rd., RD 3, Medina, who suffered numerous but less critical injuries.
STELIANOU was taken to Medina Hospital at about 6:55 a. m. on New Year’s Day after he had struck the truck from the rear while heading north on Lyndonville Rd. about two miles north of Ridge Rd. Internal injuries demanded an operation later Tuesday which failed to save his life.
Born in Medina Sept. 14, 1920, he was the son of Ary and Constandina FORTIO STELIANOU and lived at home, 34 Eagle Street, here. He attended Lyndonville Central School and graduated with the class of 1938. During World War II he served three and one-half years with the U.S. Navy as a storekeeper. Since the end of the war, he had been employed by the Frank J. Payjack auto sales in Medina as parts department manager.
Surviving are his parents and four brothers, Peter, Fred and Ernest, all of Lyndonville, and Menel of Sodus. Also one sister Anna, of Lyndonville. Services are to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Smythe Funeral Home, Main Street, with burial in Lynhaven Cemetery.

The subject of this memoir was born in Montgomery Co., N.Y., March 25th, 1828, and died in great peace at her home in the town of Shelby, Orleans Co., N.Y., February 8th, 1890. She passed her early years and grew to womanhood in her native county. When twenty-two years of age she, with her parents, John and Catherine DYGART, moved to the town of Shelby, Orleans Co., N.Y. About three years after, she was united in marriage to Lyman STETSON, with whom she lived in peace and harmony for thirty-five years, when the Master said, “it is enough; come up higher.” About fifteen years ago Sister STETSON gave her heart to God and her name to the M. E. Church, of which she remained a consistent member until called to the church triumphant. An affectionate mother has gone from her home and household cares into the presence of the Master, a faithful wife has been called from the duties of this life into the presence of the Most High.
She leaves a devoted husband, two daughters and one son who mourn her departure. The children are all married - Mrs. Mattie E. LASHER, Mrs. Hattie G. LUND and Chas. G. STETSON. The funeral services were held in the Fletcher Chapel, Shelby, Feb. 10th, 1890, Rev. Menzo Jenkins officiating. We commend to the bereaved husband and children the words of Him who spake as never man spake, “I will not leave you comfortless.”

Mrs. Etta G. STEVENS died on Saturday evening at Dr. Lee's hospital in Rochester where she had been a patient for several weeks. She was afflicted with a cancer, but was suddenly taken away with a stroke of apoplexy. Deceased was about sixty-seven years of age; was widow of the late Herbert STEVENS, of Albion, but had made Medina her home about ten years and her demise will be mourned by a large circle of friends. Two daughters, Mrs. Arthur WARREN, of Buffalo, and Mrs. LeGrand S. WHEDON, of this place, survive. Funeral services were held at the residence of L. S. Whedon Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Frank J. Milman officiating. The interment was in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

The death of Frank Lee STEVENS occurred at his home in Albion Tuesday. The deceased was born in Knowlesville and had been a lifelong resident of the central and western part of Orleans county. He was a teacher in the schools of Orleans and Niagara counties about twenty years and for several years was bookkeeper of the H. W. Tilden Produce Company, in Albion.
Mr. STEVENS leaves his widow, Mrs. Mary TOWNSEND STEVENS; one sister, Mrs. Martha SPENCER, of Birmingham, Alabama. The funeral will be held from the home, No. 118 East State street, Albion, Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, Rev. H. C. Woods officiating.

Lyndonville - Funeral services for James W. STEVENS, 70, whose death occurred at his home on the County Line Road Wednesday evening, will be held from his late home Saturday afternoon at 2 p m. The Rev. Thomas Tighe of the Lyndonville Presbyterian Church will officiate and burial will be in Tanner Cemetery, Culvert Road, Medina. Death followed several weeks’ illness.
The deceased was born in the Town of Elba, March 6, 1877, and his parents were the late James and Sarah RIBBY STEVENS. He was a member of the Glad Tidings Baptist Mission of Medina. Surviving are his widow, Ida Mae STEVENS, and one brother, Delba STEVENS of Lyndonville.

John H. STEVENS, of Knowlesville, passed away February 15th in the same house where he was born September 23, 1839. His entire life was spent on his farm with the exception of about 3 years in the Civil War. He had the distinction of witnessing the second nomination, the inauguration and the assassination of President Lincoln.
In 1866 he married Alice A. ANDREWS, who died November 28, 1875. In 1876 he married Mary D. CLAPP, who died October 9, 1913. He leaves one son, George A. STEVENS, of Buffalo, and one daughter, Mrs. Roscoe C. OSTRANDER, of Knowlesville, and four grandchildren; Henry A., Avery T., John H. STEVENS, of Buffalo, and Raymond H. OSTRABDER, of Knowlesville. His funeral was held Sunday, February 16. The interment was in the Tanner Cemetery.
On August 6, 1862, deceased enlisted and was mustered in the state service as a Corporal in Captain H. Bowen's independent Rifles and on October 22, 1862, was mustered into the United States service as a Corporal in Company A, 151st N. Y., Vol., Infantry, and soon after he was promoted to Sergeant. Was severely wounded in the Battle of Mine Run, VA., November 27, 1863, and was transferred to 95th Company, Second Battalion, Veteran Reserve Corps, September 30, 1864 and was discharged May 11, 1865 at Patterson Pork Hospital, Baltimore, Md. He had been a member of S. J. Hood Post No. 91 for a good many years. His father served in the War of 1912 and his grand father was a soldier in the Revolutionary War.
Comrade STEVENS always took a great interest in the meetings of the G. A. R. and was at the last meeting of the Post, February 4th, when he read a very interesting article on Abraham Lincoln. He is the tenth member of the Post that has been mustered out within a year.

The death of Alexander STEVENSON, Sr., aged seventy-three years, occurred at his home in Ridgeway, on the 8d inst. Deceased was born at the old family homestead at Stevenson’s Land, Prestonpans, Scotland. He came to this country in 1850 and made his home in Ridgeway where he has since resided, honored and respected by every one who knew him. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss.

Robert J. STEVENSON, 12, son of Katherine and the late Robert C. STEVENSON, died Thursday at Barrytown, N.Y. Besides his mother, he is survived by one sister, K. CAMPBELL and one brother William G. STEVENSON, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. KISSELBECK and several aunts and uncles of Barrytown, also his grandfather, William STEVENSON, and several aunts and uncles of Albion.
Funeral services were held at Barrytown, Saturday morning, the body arriving in Albion, Sunday evening. Services were held at the home of his grandfather, Sunday afternoon at three o'clock with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Miss Elizabeth STEWART, who had been an invalid for a long tome, died Tuesday morning at the home of Thomas Farley on Park Avenue. Miss STEWART was a native of Medina and the only surviving daughter of pioneer residents. She is survived by three cousins--Mrs. Walter S. RANDOLF, Harry F. WELTEN and Frank WELTEN. The funeral will be held from the residence of Mrs. RANDOLF this afternoon. Rev. Gilbert A. Shaw officiating.

Jean MacNAUGHTON, wife of William D. STEWART, of Yates, passed away on the morning of September twentieth, after several weeks’ illness. Besides her husband, she is survived by one brother, Donald MacNAUGHTON, of Caledonia, two sons, Charles H. STEWART and William D. STEWART, Jr., both of Washington, and two daughters, Mrs. Arthur HOWES, of Albion, and Mrs. Milton St. JOHN, of Lyndonville.
Hers was one of those rare, kindly, wholesome natures who quietly make the world better for their being in it, while her practical Christianity was ever an inspiration to all who knew her. Her church, her friends, her neighbors will sadly miss her cheery presence, but it is in the home where she so nobly fulfilled every duty of wife and mother that her loss will be only the more deeply felt as the days go by.

On Thursday, February 11th, 1904, Sarah Lucetta FARGO, wife of the late Horatio STEWART, died of heart failure in Detroit, Mich., where she had gone to visit her daughter, Mrs. Thomas MURPHY.
Mrs. STEWART was born in Sherburne, Chenango county, N. Y., March 3d, 1826, and came to Medina a bride in 1842, where she had since resided. She was the oldest communicant of St. John’s Church and an active worker; especially will she be remembered for the service she so gladly gave in all matters pertaining to the music of the church. Her death is a great loss to her many friends to whom she endeared herself by her cheerful disposition and her unfailing sympathy.
Mrs. STEWART is survived by two daughters - Mrs. Thomas MURPHY and Miss Elizabeth STEWART - three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Charles Turner at her late residence on Pearl street Monday afternoon, and on account of the inclement weather, the new Burroughs memorial vault was occupied temporarily.

Mrs. Ula B. STEWART, 70, of 318 Eagle St., died yesterday at Medina Memorial Hospital. She had been admitted at noon and died that evening. Mrs. STEWART was born in the Town of Yates on Oct. 28, 1889, and had always lived in the area. She was a practical nurse. Her husband, Howard STEWART, died in 1928. She was a member of the Women of the Moose and had belonged to the Methodist Church in Knowlesville.

Charles S. STIELOW, 63, died at his home, 515 Church Street,(Medina) Sunday morning after a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held from his late home tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock, with burial at Hunt's Corners near Akron,(N.Y.) with Rev. R. E. Malte officiating.
Surviving besides his wife, Laura, are three daughters, Mrs. Norman BRAUM, of Middleport; Mrs. Harold BRANER of Buffalo and Miss Alice STIELOW of Buffalo; two sons, Edward of Medina; and Roy of Williamsville; a brother, August of Lockport and two sisters, Mrs. Edward ALSKI of Buffalo and Mrs. Pauline LUCKMAN of Wolcottsville, and four grandchildren.

The death of Mrs. George STILLINGER occurred suddenly at her home near Shelby Basin Thursday afternoon. She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Ada STOLVENBERG and four sons, Lorenzo, Frank H., Allen J. and Clare G.
The funeral will be held at the family home Saturday at two o'clock, the Rev. L. L. Rogers officiating. Burial at West Ridgeway Cemetery.

Abel STILSON, a former resident of Orleans county, died last Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Eunice HOBBEY, in Irondequoit. The body was taken to Albion for burial. Mr. STILSON was for a long time identified with educational interests in this county. He was appointed county superintendent of schools in 1847 and in 1867 was elected school commissioner. He taught in the Albion academy in 1847-48 and was principal of the Holley academy from 1870 to 1874. He served a term in the state legislature in 1860.

Mrs. Suzan STILWELL, an old and well known resident of the town of Shelby, died at her home south of Shelby Center at 2:30 o'clock on Sunday afternoon. Mrs. STILWELL was born (Suzan SMITH) April 20th, 1825, and was thus in her 86th year. A large portion of her life had been passed in Shelby.
The surviving family consists of two daughters, Mrs. Helen COLTON and Mrs. Anna ROSS, of Shelby, one sister, Mrs. Helen PATRICK, of Michigan, and seven grandchildren, George ROSS and George(?) RYAN, of Rochester, Earl ROSS, Fred RYAN and Mildred RYAN, of Medina, and George and Charles COLTON, of Shelby.
The funeral will take place from the house in Shelby at two o'clock on Wednesday and the service will be conducted by the Rev. Mr. TOMPKINS, of the Shelby Baptist Church.

Edward D. STINSON, 42, died suddenly this morning at his home, 152 Maple Avenue. Born in the Town of Ridgeway he lived in Medina and vicinity his entire lifetime. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, and a member of the Holy Name Society of the church. He was also a member of Medina Lodge of Moose.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine A. (CHICHESTER); two daughters, Arlene and Joanne; his mother, Mrs. Nellie ROOK; two brothers, Maynard STINSON and Kenneth ROOK; and an aunt, Mrs. Edna DUTCHER, all of Medina.
Funeral services will be held from his late home on Thursday morning at 8:30 o’clock and at 9 o’clock at St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Mrs. Seth STIRK, long a resident in Albion died Saturday in her home on Clarendon St. The funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 in McNalls mortuary, with the Rev. Earle I. HAMLIN officiating. Burial took place in Mt. Albion Cemetery.
The former Agnes DEANS was born Dec. 28, 1864 at Arthur, Canada, to Walter and Agnes JOHNSON DEANS, natives of Canada, and came here to live 45 years ago. Her marriage to Mr. STIRK was terminated by his death some years ago. She belong to the Albion Prebyterian Church. The survivers include several nieces and nephews.

Andrew J. STIRK, 68, of 349 W. State St., died April 13, in Arnold Gregory Hospital, Following a long illness. Born in Albion, he had resided here all his life. He formerly was employed by the Orleans Repuplican and the Eddy Printing Co. He was a member of the Prebyterian Church and the Albion Lodge, IOOF, and a past member of the Albion Fire Department. Survivors are his wife, Alice; two sons, John and Robert, both of Albion; two sisters, Mrs. Jane BRITTON and Mrs Nina MILLER, both of Buffalo, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Merrill-Grinnell, Inc. Funeral Home, E.State and Ingersoll Sts., Albion, Saturday April 23, at 2 p.m. Anyone who wishes may make a memorial in his name to the American Cancer Society or to the First Presbyterian Church of Albion.

Born 52 years ago on Sept. 16, 1888, he was a son of Fred and Sarah SANDAR STIRK, both of whom originated in England. A resident of Albion all of her life, she was a labeling clerk for more than 30 years at the Birds Eye-Snider plant. She leaves a son, Donald L. Another of our pioneer residents of Orleans county has been taken from our midst in the death of Mrs. Margaret STISSER, at her home near Carlton, NY, October 22d.
Deceased was a daughter of the late Peter and Charity BAYNE and was born in the town of Lenox, Madison county, NY, October 18, 1813 and was therefore in the 86th year of her age. She was united in marriage September 26, 1830 to Solomon Stisser whose death occurred in 1875. They removed to Orleans county in 1833 settling on the farm where the deceased had resided for sixty-five years.
Of four children born only one, Mrs. Philo BURCH, is left to mourn the loss of her mother. A step-son, Charles P. STISSER is also living in Stark, Ill., and spent the summer here looking after the wants of his mother during her last illness. Funeral services were held at her late residence October 2(4?)the Rev. Mr. DOW of Eagle Harbor, officiating. Interment at Lynhaven Cemetery, Lyndonville.

The death of the beloved wife of our venerable and esteemed townsman, Mr. John STITT, occurred on Monday night. Deceased had been an invalid for nine years. Her age was nearly eighty-three years, twenty-six of which had been passed in Medina. The funeral services - Rev. E. P. Gardner officiating - were held at the residence on West street, yesterday afternoon, and the remains taken to Mt. Hope, Rochester, for interment.

Porter J. STOCKING Retired Farmer, Died, In Hospital Today
Porter J. STOCKING, 71, well known retired farmer, of 129 Highland Avenue, died early
this morning in the Nedina Memorial Hosppital, following several months illness.
Born September 21m 1873, in the Town of Barre, Mr. STOCKING was the son of th late John and Mary PORTER STOCKING, and had lived his entire lifetime in Orleans County. He was engaged in farming at his Lee Street farm, Town of Barre, until four years ago when he retired, moving to Medina. A member of the Knowlesville Grange for thirty-five years. Mr. STOCKING acted as treasurer of the group for nineteen years.
Surviving are his wife, Gertrude THOMAS STOCKING; one daughter, Mrs. Edna JUDD of Medina; two granddaughters; and one sister, Mrs. T.A. WAITE of Rochester. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. from his late residence, with the Rev. Ralph D. Ross, pastor of the Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Millville Cemetery

Albert STOCKTON, 84, died Monday at the home of his niece, Mrs. Earl MILLS at 38 North Main Street. Mr. STOCKTON was a retired fruit buyer, having been engaged in that business 60 years. He is survived by two brothers, Henry of Carlton and John of Albion; one sister, Mrs. John HORNER of Waterport and eight nieces and nephews. He was member of the G.A.R., having served in Co. K Third N.Y. Light Infantry and 17th N.Y. Battery. Funeral services will be held Friday at two-thirty o'clock from the McNall Funeral Home, the Rev. W.C. Taylor officiating. Burial in Mt. In Memoriam. The death of Mrs. Thomas STOCKTON, briefly noted last week, occurred at the family residence Saturday evening, Nov. 23, from cancer. The funeral was held on Monday, the 25th. Interment at Mount Albion. Rev. F.E. KING preached a very impressive sermon from the text "Weep not, she is not dead, but sleepeth." The deceased was born in Lincolnshire, England, March 21st, 1816, and was 78 years of age at her demise. She was united in marriage in 1840 and come with her husband to America in 1847, taking up her residence in Albion until 1863, when with her husband and family she removed to Carlton, and continued to reside there until called home.
Mrs. STOCKTON leaves to mourn her loss her husband and six children, Silas and Henry of Albion, Albert and John of Carlton, Mrs. Nettie HORNER and Mrs. Louise MANN of Carlton. Although a great sufferer during her long and trying illness, she bore it all with meekness and resignation. Truly it could be said of her, "She rested sweetly in the everlasting arms" that she knew were able to keep through deepest trials. She was a mother whose life will be sweet to be remembered by her children, because of its beauty of character, savoring so strongly of Him whose example while on earth she loved to follow, teaching not by precept alone but by practicing such patience, such self-denial, such long-suffering as can only be shown by those who have close communion with the blessed Master. Surely, such a mother's life can only bring to her children perfect trust and a surity of sweet rest while she waiteth just beyond for a happy reunion with all her loved ones.

CARLTON CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES - Henry STOCKTON, 90, Civil War veteran, a witness of Lee's surrender at Appomattox, died Friday morning at his home in Carlton. He had been ill four months. A member of the 17th Light Artillery he witnessed Lee's surrender at Appomattox and took an active part in the Battles of Gettysburg, Cold Harbor and lesser conflicts. Enlisting at the outbreak of the Civil War he served three years and later re-enlisted and was honorably discharged. He was born in England. Twice married, he is survived by his second wife Sarah HOWE STOCKTON; a son, Frank STOCKTON of Carlton; four grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Nettie HORNER of Macedon, and a brother, John STOCKTON of Rochester. It was his particular pride that he had missed few gatherings of veterans of '61 since his discharge from the Army.

Business Man Of Albion A Suicide. Silas STOCKTON Takes His Life While Deranged.
Albion, March 28. While suffering from an attack of grip, Silas STOCKTON one of Albion's
best known
business men, shot himself through the right temple in the dining room of his
home in North avenue, at 8:40 o'clock this forenoon, dying almost instantly.
Mr. STOCKTON was born in Yorkshire, England October 24, 1850 and landed
in New York city the day he was 1 year old. He has been a resident of this
village for the past fifty-nine years and for twenty-eight years has conducted a
draying business.
Mr. STOCKTON was about the business section of the
village early this forenoon attending to business but feeling too ill to work
went to his home and while members of his family were in another room stepped in
front of a large mirror and sent one shot into his right temple. Drs. Frank G.
Sherwood and John E. Sutton arrived at the home within a few moments after the
shot but Mr. Stockton had died almost immediately.
Coroner Frank H.
Lattin, of Gaines and Arthur I. Eccleston, of Waterport were notified and gave a
verdict of suicide while temporarily deranged. The gun used was a cheap 32
caliber revolver and new.
Mr. STOCKTON leaves a widow, two daughters, Mrs. Emma DRENNAN and Miss Mae STOCKTON; three sons, Burton T., Charles G., and Roy STOCKTON, all of this village, also one sister, Mrs. Nettie HORNER, of Waterport; and three brothers, John, Albert, and Henry all of Carlton.

Waterport. Thomas STOCKTON, an old resident of this place, died at his late home last week. The following prelude to the sermon by Rev. F. E. King was so appropriate that we substitute it in preference to any comments of our own: Thomas STOCKTON was born in Lincolnshire, England, April 5, 1822. His parents died when he was but six years old, leaving him to the care of a sister, Lucy, and a brother, John, both of whom he survived by many years. In 1840 he married Miss Anna GENTLE, whose demise occurred but five months ago. In 1847, he with his wife and family, then consisting of four sons, William, Henry, Albert, and Silas, started for America. At this time, the youngest child, Silas, was but six months old. After spending six weeks on the water, in coming from England to New York and proceeding onward at the slow pace at which a canal boat moves, they arrived at Albion with very little means. The comforts and advantages of the railroad system were then unknown. He was a very active and energetic man and soon made a home for his beloved ones, setting forth only the best examples before his children and bringing them up to be honest and upright men and women. In 1863 they took up their residence here, where the death of his beloved wife occurred a short time ago. Then the change in him was very noticable. He mourned and grieved her loss to the last, never afterwards seeming to value life without his companion and appearing perfectly willing to join her.
Six children mourn his loss, Silas and Henry of Albion, Albert, John, Mrs. Louise MANN and Mrs. Nettie HORNER of Carlton. It will be a source of consolation to them to reflect upon his excellent qualities, the brilliant character he possessed, and the ease and happiness he now enjoys.
Thomas STOCKTON died at his home in Carlton last week, aged 75 years. He was for years a resident of Albion, where he did business as a drayman.

Thomas STOCKTON, well known in Albion, committed suicide by shooting himself with a revolver Friday morning. He lived with his aged mother on East Park street. He had been in poor health for some time and was thoroughly discouraged. His age was fifty-nine years.

Mrs. William STOCKWELL died of cancer, Tuesday morning, Feb. 13, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Una LOTT, aged 73 years. A husband, to whom she was married Dec. 24, 1862; two daughters, Mrs. Frank LOTT and Mrs. Frank WOODWORTHh; one sister, Mrs. Alexander GARDNER; two brothers, David WOOD of Rochester and Wesley WOOD of Yates; and one grandchild, Dean WOODWORTH, survive. She was for many years a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and a member of the Woman's Foreign Missionary society. She was a devoted wife, a fond mother and a kind neighbor. The funeral service was held at the home last Thursday at 2 p.m., Rev. B. R. Germer officiating. Interment in Lynhaven Cemetery.

LYNDONVILLE
Another of the honored pioneers of Yates is gone. Mr. Daniel W. STOCKWELL died in
this village on Tuesday, of consumption, aged seventy-two years. He had been
gradually failing for the past year and has been confined to the house mostly
since November last. Mr. STOCKWELL was the youngest of ten children and the last
to leave these mortal shores for the better land. Father, mother, brothers and
sisters, all gone, and he has lived alone, as it were, the last of a noble band
who dared and braved the trials of pioneer life. The family came to this town in
1817, and settled on the farm now owned by William Sheldon, where also the
deceased lived until a few years ago, and reared a large family, seven of whom,
two sons and five daughters, live to mourn the loss of a kind father.
Mr. STOCKWELL was a candid, reliable citizen, and has occupied positions of trust
in the town. The family have the sympathy of all.

Evi D. STODDARD, the father of Mrs. Dr. J. E. WILLIAMS, was born in Orange Co., this state, in the year 1818, and died at the parsonage, Medina, N . Y. on Saturday morning, October 11, 1902. Mr. STODDARD was a man of the strictest integrity ever in the forefront of all moral questions, ever evincing the liveliest interest in all passing events, in his last days making minutest enquiries in regard to the coal strike. The last weeks of his life were ones of intense suffering, but with the same fortitude that he had met the difficulties of life he came to his death. He passed under the shadow trusting in the Christian's Savior and was pleased to depart and be at rest. Brothers Latham and Ellenwood assisted in appropriate services at the parsonage on Saturday afternoon.
The body was taken to Pultneyville, his former home, for more than thirty five years, and with appropriate service on Monday afternoon was placed beside his wife who had prededed him by one year and three months. He has left his neighbors and friends and children a life worthy of imitation.

The death of Raymond H. STODDARD, 60, a retired mall carrier, and for the past several months an employee of the Medina Parks Department, died suddenly at his home 712 Church Street, Saturday evening.
Born in Medina February 26, 1892, his parents were the late Nelson and Jessie BISHOP STODDARD. He was graduated from Medina High School and entered postal service August 28, 1912. He retired on September 30, 1950. For the past few months he has been employed by the village as caretaker at Veteran’s Memorial Park. He was a member of Orleans Lodge of Odd Fellows, the Western New York Letter Carriers Association and the First Presbyterian Church of Medina.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Olive SHEARER STODDARD; two sisters, Miss Nettie STODDARD of Medina and Mrs. William HITCHCOCK of Niagara Falls and two nephews and one niece.
Friends may call at the Hartt Funeral Home, Pearl Street, from where funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 20, at 2:30 p. m. The Rev. Edward SIMPSON will officiate and burial will be in B Boxwood Cemetery.

Died. STOKES - in Yates, on the morning of the 1st inst., Elizabeth, wife of Rev. James O. STOKES, aged 80 years. Funeral exercises will be held at St. John’s Church in Medina on Saturday next at 1-1/2 (1:30?) o’clock P.M.
Rev. James O. STOKES and deceased resided for several years near this village, and during such residence the now aged Minister and mourner, whose bereavement is above noticed, discharged acceptably the duties of Pastor of St. John’s Church, where the funeral is to be held. Both the deceased and the survivor are remembered by many of our citizens as exemplifying by their daily walk and conversation their Christian faith and professions.

Miss Elizabeth B. STOKES - Sister of James A. STOKES, of Lyndonville, died at his residence in that village, on the 11th inst. At the time of her decease she was nearly seventy-seven years of age and had been a resident of the town of Yates for nearly forty years. Among the people where she so long resided, she was known as "aunty" and she had the good will and sincere friendship of every person who knew her. The death of her brother's wife shortly after she became a resident of Lyndonville devolved upon her the care and charge of his four children, among whom was Mrs. E. L. PITTS, of this place, and she discharged that sacred and responsible trust in so faithful and discreet a manner as to secure from each of them their undying love and confidence. She was a christian, kind hearted and true woman, whose life was full of gracious acts, kind deeds and generous sacrifice. Indeed, all her talent, worth and virtue were used for the benefit of others, and of her it can be truly written, "life was labor and death is rest." Possessed of a cheerful disposition and even temper, no words of her ever wounded the most sensitive ear, and no action of her's ever brought sorrow to any heart.
A devoted daughter, a kind and loving sister, a patient and true mother-- for she was a true mother to the motherless children left to her charge--a sincere friend and kind neighbor has passed away, and we doubt not that her freed spirit rejoices in the perfect freedom and indescribable joys which awaits the good, pure and virtuous. She was a daughter of the Rev. James A. STOKES, one of the first rectors of St. John's Church in this place, and she had been a devoted member of that church for many years. During the latter part of her life she had been a great sufferer from the infirmities of age and maladies which were incurable, but she bore all and suffered all with uncomplaining and gentle fortitude. Her patience and resignation was so great that no complaint ever escaped her lips, and she was firm in the belief that beyond the darkest cloud the sun was still shining.
A woman like this, although her name is not recorded among the list of the world's heroines, possessed a truly heroic and brave spirit. Her example and life were ever inspiring, and she has left to her family and friends ten thousand gracious memories more precious than gold or silver. We write within bounds when we say she did not have an enemy in the world, and that there were none so poor or humble or lowly who could not at any time receive her sympathy and aid. Her memory will ever be treasured, and is a constant benediction to all who knew her.
The funeral services were conducted at the residence of her brother, on Sunday last, by the Rev. Mr. Rowe, of Lyndonville, whose remarks were eloquent, impressive, able, and impressed upon his hearers the worth and value of her gentle christian life. There was a large attendance of neighbors and friends, and many eyes unused to weeping, shed tears, for all regarded her death as a personal loss. Peacefully as she had lived she died.

Giles STOLP, an old and highly esteemed resident of the town of Ridgeway, died Sunday evening at his home on the West Scott road, aged 85 years. His wife (Ann Jane), who was daughter of the late Andrew J CUMMINGS, of Yates, survives together with one son, A. G. STOLP, and one nephew, Burt J. CUMMINGS. The funeral occured at the residence yesterday afternoon, Rev. M. E. Van Nostrand officiating. The interment was Lynhaven Cem, LyndonviIle. (Spouse was Ann Jane Cummings)

Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie MIX STONE, 83, who died Thursday night at Arnold Gregory Memorial Hospital in Albion, took place this afternoon at 3 o’clock from 10 East State Street, Albion.
Mrs. Stone was the widow of William STONE, and is survived by one stepdaughter, Mrs. Eldridge PIERCE, Jamestown, and one niece, Mrs. Colen GRANT, Albion. Burial was in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Sereno STONE, an old and highly respected citizen of this village died at his home on Albion street Saturday night, November __, after a long illness. Mr. STONE’s illness dates from a sun stroke recieved about two years ago, from which he never fully recovered. A seige of typhoid pneumonia followed soon after, and helped still further to break down a naturally strong and rugged constitution.
Mr. STONE was born in Orange County Connecticut, in 1813, in his 76th year at the time of his death. He came to Henrietta, Monroe County, in 1832, and in 1840 moved to the town of Murray. He has resided in this vicinity ever since. Mr. Stone married in 1834 Miss Lura PHILLIPS who survives him after a married life of 55 years. He leaves six sons, Benjamin and Atlie(?) of Sioux Falls, Dakota; William, of Lowell, Mich., Charles and Albert of Kendall; and Adelbert, of this village; also two daughters, Mrs. Jeremiah WEST; of Kendall, and Mrs. W. H. HAWKINS, of Parma. One son died in the army.
Mr. STONE was one of a family of seven all of whom are still living and well advanced in years. With the exception of the son mentioned above Mr. Stone's own death is the first break in the family circle. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from his late residence.
Mr. STONE was an upright man and good citizen in every sense of the word and a kind husband and father. He died universally esteemed and regretted by the community in which he lived so long and honorably.

Thursday at her home in Barre. Mrs. STONEY was born in Barre on September 22, 1895.
She is survived by her husband, Warren G. STONEY; two infant daughters,
Marjorie and Clarice, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Henry JACKSON;
one sister Lucille JACKSON, all of Barre.

The death of Mrs. Catherine STORK, widow of Jonathan STORK, occurred at the home of her son, James STORK, 702 Orient Street, on Thursday last. Mrs. STORK was 92 years of age and was one of the oldest residents of Medina. She was born in England and came to Medina about 65 years ago. She leaves two sons, James STORK of Orient Street and John STORK of State Street.
The funeral services were held from the home of James STORK, Orient Street, on Sunday afternoon, Rev. J. J. Allen of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment at Boxwood Cemetery.

On Sunday evening, at her home, occurred the death of Mrs. Godfrey STORK, aged 27 years, after an illness of three weeks. She was a lady beloved by all who knew her and leaves a wide circle of friends, besides a kind and devoted husband, and one son to mourn her loss. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Baptist church. A large company of friends and relatives gathered to pay their last sad rites to the departed.

A Medina man, George Harold STORK, 56, of North Gravel Road died yesterday in Medina Memorial Hospital as the direct result of a fall from a scaffold while painting a house on Thursday. Taken to the local hospital with a fractured skull, Mr. STORK's condition had been described by physicians as serious. In the fall he had struck his head on a concrete pavement.
Born in Medina on June 10, 1893, he was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and the First Baptist Church here. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Florence HULL STORK; two sons, Joseph Eugene and Dell Courtman STORK both of Medina; one daughter Mrs. Louis NOGA of Rochester; one sister, Mrs. Lena CHAMBERLAIN of Medina, and a nephew Newton BICKLE of Toledo, Ohio.
A veteran of World War 1, Mr. Stork served with the 16th Engineers (Ry), and was a member of Carpenter’s Local 322. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at three o'clock from Hartt's Funeral Home, Pearl Street, with burial in Boxwood Cemetery. (taken from the Washak scrapbooks)

John STORK, 84, former Chief of Police of Medina, died at his home 153 State Street, yesterday afternoon following a short illness. Born in Medina Sept. 14, 1864, he was the son of the late John and Catherine ( nee TIFFANY) STORK, both natives of England. Mr. STORK resided here all of his lifetime, and for 17 years was chief of the Medina Police Department. He was a member of the Odd Fellows for 34 years.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine (nee RITTER) STORK; two daughters; three sons: five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Friends may call at the Hartt Funeral Home, Pearl Street from where funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock with the Rev. Ralph ROSS of the First Baptist Church officiating. Mrs. Frank STORMS. The death of Mrs. Frank STORMS occurred at her home in Kennedy, N.Y. on Monday and her remains were brought to Holley today for interment in Hillside Cemetery. A more extended notice will appear next week.
Mrs. Frank A. STORMS. The death of Mrs. Alice McMichael STORMS, wife of Frank A. STORMS occurred at the family home in Kennedy, NY. on Monday, April 11, following a long illness. Mrs. STORMS' girlhood home was in Collins, Erie County, and her marriage to Mr. STORMS took place on July 2, 1866, in Clarendon, the Rev. Louis Jones, pastor of the Christian Church at Manning, performing the ceremony.
Mr. and Mrs. STORMS lived in Clarendon for fifteen years and in 1881 they purchased the Adin Ferrey farm on the Skillington Road, now owned by John Christopher, where they made their home for twenty-one years. In 1902 they moved to Holley, where they resided until about seven years ago when owing to failing health they moved to Kennedy to be with their children.
Mrs. STORMS is survived by her husband, Frank A. STORMS; three sons, Arthur and Myron of Kennedy and Jesse of Lockport, and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held at her late home and her remains were brought to Holley on Thursday for interment in Hillside cemetery, Rev. L. M. Lawrence, a former pastor of the Presbyterian church in this village, accompanied the family to Holley and conducted the services at the grave.

Cesedio STORNELLI of South avenue, a member of the section gang of the New York Central Railroad died at the Medina Memorial Hospital Tuesday night of injuries received Monday morning at 8 o'clock when struck by a gasoline propelled speed car that jumped the tracks near the H. J. Heinz plant.

Died at his home near Kenyonville, Thursday evening, January 14, 1897, Francis E. STOWELL, in the ninety sixth year of his age.
Mr. STOWELL was one of the few who round out nearly a century in the journey of life. He always appeared in youthful spirits; was passionately fond of martial music and was widely known as the veteran drummer. He was uniformly on hand at the pioneer gathering as a member of the martial band. Few enjoyed such occasions as he did.
The funeral took place at the church at Kenyonville Sunday. Martial music was a feature in the exercises. He had the respect of all who knew him; the vacuum created by his demise will not readily be filled.

Albion - Almon B. STRICKLAND, 86, died yesterday, Sept 21, at the home of his son, Burroughs A. STRICKLAND, an Albion attorney. In addition to his son, he is survived by several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

David Earl STRICKLAND, 69, of Kent, died April 10 at Buffalo General Hospital following a long illness. He was born in Kenyonville and had lived in the Kent area all of his life, where he was a well-known farmer. He was a life member of B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1006.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. David (Kathleen) MOORE of Medina; one granddaughter, Samantha BROOKS; one brother J. Douglas (Jeanette) STRICLAND of Kent; one sister, Mrs. Vernon (Janet) POPP of Edgewater, Fla.; an aunt, Dorothy DUNHAM of Waterport; one niece, one nephew, and several cousins. The family received friends Saturday evening at the Christopher-Mitchell Funeral Homes Inc., 21 West Ave., where services were held Sunday. Burial was in Sandy Creek Cemetery, Murray. Memorial gifts may be made to COVA, Medina Memorial Hospital, or the Carlton Volunteer Fire Department.

Knowlesville - John L. STRICKLAND, 86, former Knowlesville resident who died in his Kenmore home on October 9, was buried in Tanner Cemetery near here Monday. For many years an occupant of the farm south of this village which is now the home of Herbert Felstead, Mr. STRICKLAND was well-known throughout this area.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet CLARK; a daughter, Mrs. Marian ARNOLD of Kenmore, and one grandson and one granddaughter.

Gaines Basin - Mrs. STRICKLAND, who has been sick ever since her return from Florida, died Monday afternoon. She leaves besides her husband (Washington J. STRICKLAND), a son (Ralph W. STRICKLAND) and one brother, George BULLARD, of Albion.
Mrs. W.J. STRICKLAND died at Gaines Basin last week. She had been ill since her return from Florida.

Albion, Jan 30. (1911) - The death of Washington J. STRICKLAND occurred this morning at the home in the Gaines Basin road, two miles west of this village. His age was 81 years. He was a cabinetmaker by trade, and lived in this village many years. He was a member of the Christian Church.
Mr. STRICKLAND leaves one son, Ralph W. STRICKLAND, at whose home he died. The funeral service will take place at the home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. C. H. Scholefield officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Mrs. Flora STROUSE, 60, wife of Sherman STROUSE, died of apoplexy February 2nd at her home in Lyndonville. She was born in the town of Yates where she was well known and leaves many friends. Besides her husband, eight nieces and nephews survive. The funeral was held at the home last Thursday at 2 o’clock, the Rev. Frederick Mittlefehldt officiating. Burial was in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Lyndonville - Albert STROYAN, 86 years of age, died at his home on Garland St. at midnight last night following an illness of many weeks. He was born in Town of Yates, April 17, 1865, the son of Samuel and Jane McCREDDIE STROYAN, and his entire lifetime had been spent in this vicinity where he engaged in farming until his retirement. The deceased was a member of Lyndonville Presbyterian Church and formerly served as trustee for many years. He married Mabel Barnum in July 1889. She died in May 1946.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Charles BAYNE of Hastings, Mich.; Mrs. Kenneth HIGGS, Detroit; Mrs. Ray VOSLER of Lyndonville; Mrs. DeForest HATCH of Two Bridges, and Mrs. Gerald PADDOCK of Rochester. Also 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and two nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Smythe Funeral Home, Main St., with the Rev. Richard Billingsley officiating. Burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Albion - Mrs. Mary STUCZKO, 78, died here last night at her late home, Clarendon Street. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the Rosary Society.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Stanley FISHER, Albion and Mrs. Joseph JANUS, Albion. Three sons, John and Casimir, Albion and Vincent, Medina. Two sisters, Mrs. Pearl MARCINOWSKI, Medina and Mrs. Cecelia JAWORSKI, Albion. Word was received here today of the death of Mrs. Evelyn STURGIS, 47, a Rochester resident, formerly of Medina, who passed away yesterday morning in Genesee Hospital in the former city. Mrs. STURGIS was the wife of Marshall STURGIS, also a former Medina resident, who survives here at 49 Greig St, Rochester. Her death followed a lengthy illness, and a six-day period during which she was a patient at the hospital there.
Beside Mr. STURGIS, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Thomas A. KRIVANEK of Shaker Heights, Ohio. Funeral services will be held from the Bream Funeral Home, Main St, Gasport at 3: 30 P M Saturday with Rev. Edward J. SIMPSON of Medina officiating. Burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery here. Friends may call at the Bream Funeral Home.

The death of Mrs. E. (Edward) L. STURGIS occurred at her home at 501 North Academy Street yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock, following a week's illness. The deceased is survived by her husband, a daughter, Jane F. STURGIS, three sons, Charles E. of Rochester, Blaine F. of Albany, and Marshall of this city; a sister, Mrs. C. H. EDDY of Oswego; and a brother, Fred A. TYLER of Youngstown, Ohio.
The late Mrs. STURGIS was 64 years of age., and was well known in Medina. She was a member of the Daughters of Veterans. Funeral services are to be held from the family home Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m., Rev. William F. Findley of the Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be made at Boxwood Cemeteryy.

Henry STURTEVANT, a well known resident of Medina, died on Saturday evening at his home on West avenue, in the seventy-first year of his age. Deceased had been in poor health for some time, but the immediate cause of his death is said to have been paralysis. Mr. STURTEVANT had resided in Medina nearly thirty-five years, during nearly all of which time he had been in the employ of Adler & Co., as cutter in their merchant tailoring department. He was a veteran of the civil war. Is survived by his widow and one son, Daniel, now residing in the state of Texas. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, the interment being at Orangeport, Rev. Henry F. Ellinwood officiating.
