Mrs. Worden BABCOCK died Friday last at the home of her son, Frederick C. BABCOCK, at Lemont, Ill. Deceased had been in poor health for years, but her condition had not been serious until a brief time before she passed away. Mrs. BABCOCK was for a long time a resident of Medina, her husband, who died some years since, being landlord of the Hart House. She was a member of St. John's Church and had many warm friends in this place.
The body was brought to Mendon, N.Y., where funeral services were held on Sunday, the interment being in the family lot at the cemetery in that place. The funeral was attended by the following from Medina who went to that place by auto Sunday morning: Mr. and Mrs. George A. Bowen, Miss Georgiana Nichol, Mr. and Mrs. Claude H. Howell, Mr. and Mrs. John L. Sheldon, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Robbins, Mr and Mrs. Harry F. Welton, Lewis J. Ives.

The many friends of Worden BABCOCK, proprietor of the Hart House, were grieved to learn of his death, which occurred about six o’olock Monday morning. Deceased had been ill for the past four months with liver and stomach trouble, which baffled the skill of medical science, and was the direct cause of his untimely demise.
Mr. BABCOCK was nearly sixty- two years of age, having been born July 22d, 1840, in Venice, Cayuga Co., N.Y. He removed to Michigan early in life, and at the beginning of the Civil War enlisted with the sixty-eight Indiana Infantry, with which he endured much active service for three years, in consequence of which his health was impaired, and he was transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps, serving the remainder of the war at Fort Porter and at Lockport.
Mr. BABCOCK was married to Emma L. CARPENTER, of Mendon, N. Y. and was for a number of years engaged in the general merchandise business in that place and at Honeoye Falls, N. Y., afterwards removing to Missouri where he purchased a large cattle ranch. In February, 1892, Mr. BABCOCK came to Medina and purchased the Hart House, which, in company with his son, he has since successfully conducted. He was a man of good, sound judgment, and was highly esteemed by a host of friends. He was a member of Medina Lodge F. and A. M. and of the G. A. R.
Besides his widow, deceased is survived by one son - Frederick C. BABCOCK - and two sisters - Mrs. J. D. LOVEJOY, of Mendon, and Mrs. Clara DAVOFDSON, of Rochester - who have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their sad bereavement. The funeral services were held at the house yesterday morning at 10:30 o’clock, Rev. C. Turner, officiating. The Masonic fraternity were in charge, and the funeral rites of that order were also observed, Irving L' Hommedieu delivering the eulogy. The remains were taken on the 12:30 train to Mendon, N. Y., for interment, Messrs. Irving L'Hommedieu, F. W. Tripp, A. G. Phillips, Fred T. Gates, S. A. Ross and C. W. Whedon accompanying the funeral party.

William G. BABCOCK, 88, of Albion, died Sunday evening, (July 5) in Arnold Gregory Hospital following a one-year illness. He was a carpenter-contractor in the Albion area for many years. In recent years, he was employed as a groundskeeper at Mt. Albion Cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Marvin of Albion and Walter of Victor; three daughters, Mrs. Walter JOHNSON of Albion, Mrs. Edward (Eva) BEAL of Rochester; Mrs. Frank (Cora) CARDUCCI of Buffalo; 11 grandchildren; five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Service was held at Scharett-Mitchell Funeral, Wednesday afternoon. Internment in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Services Held For Young Drivers Killed Friday
Funeral services were held today for two young Orleans County men whose deaths occurred
instantly at 4:25 Friday afternoon when their cars met nearly headon on Route 31 a short
distance east of the intersection of Culvert Road and Route 31.
They were Frank LEWANDOWSKI of Medina and William G. BABCOCK, Jr., of Albion.
Prayers were said in the Gulinski Funeral Home for Joseph Frank LEWANDOWSKI, 26, 417 Commercial Street, at 9:45 with Mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Joseph RYDZ, pastor officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Mr. LEWANDOWSKI was born October 5, 1928 in Milwaukee, Wisc. coming to Medina with his parents 13 years ago. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Society and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Surviving are his wife, Christine PARADA LEWANDOWSKI, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank LEWANDOWSKI and two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy SANTILLO, all of Medina, and another sister, Mrs. Ann GODLEWSKI, Manominee, Mich.; also several aunts uncles and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held for William BABCOCK Jr., at 2 p.m. in the Merrill Funeral Home, Albion, with burial in Mt. Albion Cemetery.
The Albion man resided with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William BABCOCK, Sr., Goodrich Street. Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers, Marvin, Albion, and Walter, Victor; four sisters, Mrs. Walter JOHNSON and Mrs. Joseph NENNI, Albion; Mrs. Edward BEALE, Rochester and Mrs. Frank CARDUCCI, Buffalo.
Both men were returning to their homes from employment and both were alone in their cars when the accident happened. Mr. LEWANDOWSKI was employed in Albion by the Nealson Construction Co., on the new Central School project and Mr. BABCOCK was employed by the Synthetic Granite Vault Co., 1034 Gwinn Street, Medina.
Witnesses to the accident were Grady JACKSON and his wife, Janie Lee, who reside on the Laverne Beeton Farm and were waiting for a bus at the time. They told Orleans County Undersheriff Larry HENDERSON and Deputy John WILLIAMS, who investigated, the Lewandowski's car had passed another car and a coal truck going in the opposite direction and the driver apparently hit the road shoulder and lost control of the machine. Mr JACKSON said the Medina man’s car crossed the highway first to the right then to the left and back into the center of the road where the two cars met. Both men, who died as a result of compound skull fractures, were thrown from their cars. Dr. John ELLIS of Albion, Orleans County coroner, investigated the accident and issued statements of death due to accidental causes.

Funeral services will be held here tomorrow in the Thibault Funeral Home, South Main Street for the late George James BACHMAN, 74, whose death occurred Saturday in the Medina Memorial Hospital as a result of a brain hemorrhage. Mr. BACHMAN was a retired steamfitter and a former resident of Buffalo.
Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, West Shelby. The deceased had been a resident of Medina for the past five years. He was a member of AFL Union 395 of Buffalo.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Lucy M. BACHMAN of Medina; a son, George J. BACHMAN Jr., of Buffalo; two daughters, Mrs. Harry SCHWARZT (SCHWARTZ) of Buffalo and Mrs. Alfred BURROUGHS of Batavia; a sister, Mrs. Louis GROFF of Buffalo; a brother, Fred BACHMAN of Buffalo.

Burt BACON, 75, Found Dead at Home in Shelby
Burt BACON, 75, died suddenly at his home in Shelby Center late Saturday night,
according to Coroner Dr. Walter Shifton of Albion. Mr. BACON had not been in good
health for some time and had been staying with his step-daughter, Mrs. Frank VOSBURGH
in Lockport. He had returned to his home last Tuesday, apparently in improved health.
He was discovered by his nephew Charles BACON of Horan Road, who was on his way to work
and noticed there were no footprints in the yard. Upon entering he found his uncle dead
and notified the sheriff's office, who in turn contacted the coroner about three-thirty
Sunday afternoon.
Mr. BACON was born in this vicinity and had been a farmer for most of his lifetime. He had lived in Shelby Center for the past twenty-five years. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Minnie RUMP of Medina; three brothers, George and Adelbert of Medina and Milford of Michigan; several nieces, nephews and cousins. His wife, Bertha, died two years ago. The Rev. Norman DUNKLE of Millville Methodist Church will officiate at services Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. from the Thibault Funeral Home. Burial will be in Millville Cemetery.

Soon after midnight Monday morning Mrs. George BACON, Jr., died in the Medina hospital where she was taken at 9 o'clock Sunday night following the discovery by her husband of her burning body at their home in the English settlement. Mr. BACON left his wife alone for a few minutes while he was on an errand. On his return he was horrified to find her in an unconscious condition with flames enveloping her clothing. She was immediately rushed to the hospital where she was attended by Drs. Rogan and Turner. Her arms, back and chest were frightfully burned.
Deceased was about 30 years of age. The exact details of the accident are unknown. The hospital authorities state that she was subject to epileptic attacks, and in some way overturned a lamp, the fire communicating to her clothing.

Bertha BACON Is Dead at 79; Was Ill Long Time
Mrs. Bertha BACON of the South Gravel Road, Shelby, died Saturday at he age of 79 in
the Medina Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Alabama, the daughter of the late Riley and Ella CALEB, she had lived in the
town of Shelby the past 35 years.
Surviving besides her husband, Burt, are one daughter, Mrs. Ruth VOSBURGH of Lockport, two sisters, Mrs. Ruth BAILEY of Medina and Mrs. Emily BELSON of Fulton. Six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Friends wil be received at the Thibault Funeral Home, S. Main St., from where services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Seitz of Christ Episcopal Church, Lockport, officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in Millville Cemetery.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Raymond FARRELL; one granddaughter, Mrs. Harold SUZANNE; one sister, Mrs. Emma GRAY; two nieces, Mrs. Helen HEITZ and Mrs. Geraldine HOFFMAN; and three great grandchildren, all of Medina. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Ernest BACON, of Lyndonville, died at 12:30 Saturday morning at the Medina Hospital. He underwent an operation for appendicitis Tuesday evening from which he failed to rally. He is survived by his widow, two sons, Erwin, of Ashwood, and Paul, of Barker, and one daughter, Louise, who lives at home. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at 2:30 and was in charge of Lyndonville Lodge of Odd Fellows.

Lyndonville - Funeral services for Edith Ruth BACON, 58, who died suddenly Saturday evening in Medina Memorial Hospital only a few hours after she had been admitted, were held at the Smythe Funeral Home yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The Rev. R. H. Draffin officiated, and burial was in Lynhaven Cemetery.
Born in the Town of Yates, October 29, 1891, the deceased was the daughter of the late Charles and Hattie SPAULDING JOHNSON, and lived in this vicinity most of her life time. She was a member of Lyndonville Methodist Church and of Lyndonia Rebekah Lodge. Choosing to become a nurse, Mrs. BACON trained in Medina Hospital and was graduated in 1933. Since that time she had worked in her profession, doing industrial, Institutional and private nursing.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Roy JESSON of Lyndonville; two nieces, Mrs. Howard HOLLAND of Elmira and Mrs. Kenneth PAFK of Basom; also four grandnieces and one grandnephew.

Edward BACON passed away Tuesday afternoon about 2 o’clock at his home on State St. Mr. BACON had been around as usual in the morning but taken very suddenly by a heart attack and the end came almost immediately.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife (Eliza HARMER), two daughters, Mrs. John HIBILSON of Buffalo and Mrs. Leon BAYNE of Medina, one son C. E. BACON of Medina. One brother George BACON of Medina, four grandchildren, F. J. WILSON, Charles E. BACON, Arlene BAYNE and Armond BACON, one great grandson John Martin WILSON, besides many other relatives.
Mr. BACON came to Medina 47 years ago from Norfolk, England, and has been a continuous resident during that time. He was not only faithful in his home but always regarded as one of Medina's loyal citizens and his going will be regretted by a host of friends.
The burial will be from the family residence on State street Friday at 2:30 P. M. Interment in Boxwood Cemetery, Rev. D. A. Pearson officiating.

Frank BACON died Monday night at the home of his nephew, Arthur GILLETTE, in West Avenue, aged 86 years. Mr. BACON fell on the ice about six weeks ago and sustained a broken leg which with his advanced age contributed to his death. He leaves a sister, Mrs. Antionette GILLETTE; a niece, Mrs. William SNELL, and a nephew, Arthur GILLETTE. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon from the home. Interment in Tanner’s cemetery.

Joyce L. BACON, 74, of Median, died unexpectedly, Sept. 6 in San Antonio, Texas.
Mrs. BACON was born March 14, 1920 in the Town of Royalton. She was a daughter of the late Fred and Anna MERTZ WEHLING. She had lived most of her life in Medina. She had worked for Eugene and Viola Forrestel of Medina for several years and then the Keppler family. She enjoyed cooking, tending the roses in her garden, her family and her volunteer work. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and the Medina Woman of the Moose.
She was predeceased by her husband, Homer A. BACON, in 1987, two brothers and one sister, Fred WEHLING Jr., Lloyd F. WEHLING and Ethel KEIM.
She is survived by two sons and one daughter, Dale (Jane) BACON, of Minnesota, Elizabeth (Terrance) PAYNE, of Corfu and Paul (Mary) BACON, of Median; five grandchildren, Patricia BACON and Suzanne BACON, both of Minnesota, Stephanie PAYNE, Amanda PAYNE, and Casey PAYNE, all of Corfu, and Emily BACON, of Medina; two sisters, Thelma (Roland) ANDERSON, of Spring Branch, Texas, Elaine LaFREMIERE, of San Antonio, Texas; three brothers,, Loren (Betty) WEHLING, of Naples, Fla., Carl (Gerri) WEHLING, of San Antonio, Texas, and Layton (Jean) WEHLING, of Bossier City, La.; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Bates-Cleary Funeral Home, 232 Park Ave., Medina. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. James Walok officiating. Women of the Moose will meet at the funeral home at 4 p.m. Friday to conduct a memorial service. Burial will be in Bates Road Cemetery.

Mrs. Lena BACON, widow of the late John BACON of North Street, died last evening in Medina Memorial Hospital following a long illness. She was a native of Medina and lived here her entire lifetime. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Agnes FARRELL of Medina, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 Saturday morning from the Cleary Funeral Home, Park Ave., and at 9 a. m. from St. Mary's Church of which Mrs. BACON was a communicant. Burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery.

Louis A. BACON, 75, Succumbs to Illness
Louis A. BACON, 75, died at this home, 1024 West Avenue, last night at 10:30, following a lingering heart ailment. He is the son of the late Truman A. and Lydia BALCH BACON. Mr. BACON lived on a farm on Portage Road, Medina, for a number of years and eight years ago he and Mrs. BACON moved to West Avenue, where they have sinced lived.
He is survived by his wife, Anna BACON; one daughter, Miss Lydia BACON of Medina; two nephews, Alan HENRY of Medina, and J.R. HENRY Jr. of California; one niece, Mrs. Duane HARRIS of Medina, and several cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted from the home at 2:30 Saturday afternoon with burial at the Bates Road Cemetery. Rev. William Findlay of the Presbyterian Church will officiate.

The death of Mrs. Mary BACON, widow of the late John BACON, occurred at the home of her son, Louis L. BACON, on South Main street, Friday morning, aged 74 years. Her son is the only near relative surviving. Deceased had always resided in Medina. It is said of her that she was a woman endowed with a disposition to help others and to let her pathway through life be marked with many acts of kindness to those with whom she came in contact, which makes the taking away felt deeply by a very large circle of friends. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the residence, Rev. M. E. Van Nostrand officiating. Interment at Bates Road Cemetery.

The death of Napoleon P. BACON, one of the largest property owners and best known pioneer residents of Orleans County, occurred at 4:30 o'clock yesterday morning at his home, near the five corners, north of Albion, in the town of Gaines, where he had been a lifelong resident.
Mr. BACON was the oldest of three bachelor brothers all over 70 years of age, and had been sick only four days with pneumonia when he died suddenly yesterday morning of heart failure. He was 79 years old at the time of his death, having been born November _, 1830, on the farm where he died. He and his two brothers, Herschel and James, kept house alone.
Mr. BACON was actively engaged in farming up to the time of his last illness, and was the owner of ten farms in Orleans County, comprising over 1,000 acres of the finest orchard and farming land in Western New York. He was rated as one of the wealthiest citizens of this locality.
Mr. BACON leaves one sister, Mrs. Hannah HARDING, of Gaines, his two brothers and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held from his late home, on the Fairhaven road, Sunday afternoon, Rev. C.H. BURROUGHS, of Gaines, officiating. Interment will be in Five Corners cemetery.

The death of Truman A. BACON occurred Thursday, January 29th, 1903, on the farm where, with the exception of a year or two in Illinois, when a young man, he has spent the whole sixty-seven years of his life. He was a kind husband and father, a genial friend and a good neighbor, and will be sadly missed. He leaves to mourn his demiss a widow (Lydia) and two children, Louis A. and Nellie C. BACON, of this place; also three sisters, Mrs. Julia A. HILL and Mrs. Ella D. BENNETT, of Lockport, and Mrs. John A. ANDREWS, of Knowlesville.

Walter BACON, 39, 300 N. Main St., operator of a trucking business in Medina for 22 years, was fatally injured Saturday afternoon when struck by a car as he checked a load on his truck on Route 31, about two miles west of Gasport. Mr. BACON, stepson of Police Chief and Mrs. William J. HAMMOND of Medina, died in Medina Memorial Hospital at 5:50 p.m. as the result of crushing internal injuries. The accident occurred at about 3:15.
Niagara County Sheriff's deputies said the dead man was carrying a load of scrap iron to Lockport and had stopped to check a part of the load which had shifted. He was hit and crushed against the side of his truck by a car driven by James T. HARRIS, 63, 155 State St., Medina. Mr. HARRIS, also injured, remains in fair condition in the local hospital today, suffering from shock, a broken leg and other less severe injuries.
Dr. Kenneth J. CLARK, local coroner, reported the cause of the accidental death following an autopsy held Saturday night. The deceased trucker was taken part way to Lockport following the mishap, but regained consciousness enough to insist on being returned to Medina.
He was a World War II veteran, a member of the Medina American Legion and V.F.W. posts, the Eagles and Moose lodges. Funeral services will be conducted from his late home tomorrow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John E. WILKINSON of St. John's Episcopal Church officiating. Burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery.

Shelby Center - Charles Frederick BAEHR, 82, died at his home here Sunday morning. He was a resident of Shelby Center for 45 years. Mr. BAEHR was born in Wolcottsville, and was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Augustina SCHYLER BAEHR; four daughters, Mrs. Clara VOELKER, Middleport; Mrs. Matie LEVERENTZ, Mrs. Edith AIKEN, both of North Tonawanda, and Mrs. Mildred LAYMAN, Sanborn; two sons, Fred BAEHR, Miama Fla.; and Edward BAEHR, Medina; two brothers, Paul BAEHR, Wolcottsville and John BAEHR, Shelby Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Medina, with interment in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, West Shelby. Prior to this, a prayer service will be held at the home at 2:00 o'clock. The Rev. R.E. Malte will officiate at the services.

The death of Frederick L. BAEHR, 41, occurred this morning in Meyer Memorial Hospital, Buffalo. Mr. BAEHR resided on the Salt Works Road at West Shelby.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Dorothy E. (HELLERT) BAEHR, a daughter, Barbara, and a son, Thomas; two brothers, John of Lockport, and Elmer of Johnson Creek; three sisters, Mrs. Martha CRANDALL of Gasport, Mrs. George HARDIMAN and Miss Mable BAEHR of Lockport, and several nieces and nephews.
The body is resting in the home of Edward HELLERT, West Shelby from where funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 25, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Herman Ewald of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Wolcottsville will officiate and burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Albion - Mrs. Catherine BAGNATO, 75, died Tuesday night in the home of her son, Louis, at 139 South Main Street, after a long illness.
A native of Italy, she came to the United States in 1921. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and its Rosary Society and members of that group will call in a body at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the McNall Funeral Home at 156 South Main Street. Services will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
She leaves another son, Joseph Anthony BAGNATO of Albion; six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Miss Gelia BAILEY passed away at noon Sunday. She had been in failing health for some months. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Clara HOOD, who has the sympathy of all in her loneliness and sorrow. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon. Interment in the Tanner Cemetery on the Telegraph road.

The death of Claude BAILEY, 71, occurred Saturday, Dec. 18 in his home,
909 South Main Street, following a long illness. Born in Shelby the son of the
late Horace and Katherine BAILEY, he lived the greater part of his life in Orleans
County. For a number of years he was employed by the Highway Department of the
Town of Shelby.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ruth E. BAILEY, one daughter, Mrs. Willard BLEYLE, Kenmore, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m., in the Thibault Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth BAKER officiating. Burial will be in Millville Cemetery.

Mrs. Gertrude BAILEY, wife of the late Peter BAILEY, died suddenly yesterday of heart trouble. Mrs. BAILEY resided with her daughter, Mrs. C. G. ELLICOTT at 913 Gwinn street. Although 82 years old, Mrs. BAILEY had enjoyed unusual health except for occasional attacks of heart trouble, and a recent attack of grip. Yesterday morning she was about the house as usual although she complained of neuralgic pains about the heart and went to her room, where she was found a little later dead.
The surviving family consists of two sisters, Miss Harriett BAILEY, of Alabama, and Miss Mary BAILEY, of Pearl street, two daughters, Mrs. Chandler ELLICOTT and Mrs. G. H. SIMONDS, of Medina. The death of Mrs. BAILEY’s husband preceded her by nine years.
The funeral will take place from the home of her daughter, 913 Gwinn street, Friday afternoon at 2:30. Burial will be at Shelby (Shelby Center Cemetery).

Shelby - Our village was greatly shocked to hear of the sudden death of Grover BAILEY which occurred Sunday morning at three o’clock of acute Brights disease, aged 34 years. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife (Minnie SCHULTZ) and two small children, an aged mother (Sarah M. WARNER) and five sisters Mrs. Avery SMITH, Mrs. Fred MACE and Mrs. Charles EWALD all of this place, Mrs. Alex RUSSELL, of Rochester, and Mrs. Sheldon ACKERSON, of Oakfield. The funeral was held from his late home Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock, Rev. Wollcott, of Kent, officiating. Interment at Fletcher Chapel Cemetery.

JAMES BAILEY 1834-1899
James BAILEY was born Oct. 25, 1834 at Whitestown, Oneida County, N.Y. He was the son of Jeremiah and Laura WILLIAMS BAILEY. The BAILEY's came to Orleans County in 1844 and first settled in Gaines. Jeremiah was a progressive farmer who operated a 240-acre farm on the transit Road. James BAILEY had two brothers - Lewis, who died fairly young , and Abner B., who was a successful businessman.
At the age of 18, James became employed with Harvey GOODRICH and later was associated with Charles BAKER in the produce business for 15 years. During this time, he developed a fine farm west of Albion which was later owned by J.H. DENIO. It was this farm that became the original tract for the Western House of Refuge (Albion Correctional Facility).
In 1874, James together with his brother Abner became associated in the forcery business. In 1879 he purchased his brother's interest and in 1882 admitted his son, Herbert, into the trade. Their business then became known as James Bailey and Son, and was located in Swan's Block (HSBC) on Main Street in downtown Albion. This father-son conbination also ran a large fruit house located on the railroad near the freight depot. He was the first to build such a facility here, which had a capacity of 8,000 barrels.
BAILEY took great interest in the Orleans County Agricultural Society and did a great deal to advance its efforts, serving one time as president. He was also the first to develope anything at Oak Orchard on the Lake, which resulted eventually in a beautiful summer resort. In politics, he was a Democrat and served in several village offices.
BAILEY was seen as a public spirited man with generous inpulses. He was identified with the Masons and other fraternal ordanizations as well as the First Baptist Church. He was married in 1857 to Mary Jane CADY, by whom there were two children, Herbert J. and Frank H.

died yesterday at the home of her son Claude. She had been ill about 12 days with
pneumonia.
Mrs. BAILEY was born in Middleport, Schoharie county, 78 years ago. She had lived in this vicinity for the last 55 years. She leaves a daughter, Mrs. [Daisy BAILEY] Henry PHELPS of Little Falls; two sons, Roy of Knowlesville, and Claude of East Shelby; a sister, Mrs. Emma BOOM of Rensselaer; three grandchildren, Gordon PHELPS of Manchester, Vt., Harry BAILEY of Knowlesville, and Mrs. [Eva May BAILEY] Willard BLEYLE of this place, and a great-grandson, Donald BLEYLE. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the family home, with interment at Millville Cemetery.

Katherine married Horace Clinton BAILEY, on the 3rd of October 1874, in Middleburgh, Schoharie County, New York. Horace Clinton BAILEY, born 16 Feb 1847, in Shelby Township, Orleans County, New York, is the son of Horace BAILEY, and Anna Maria UNKNOWN.

Dies At Albion ~ "Perry" Bailey, Town Line Road, Passes at Age of 83 years.
Lyndonville, February 7: Funeral services for Perry Bailey, 83 years old, who died yesterday at an Albion hospital, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Warne funeral home in this village. The Reverend O. C Wyman will officiate withburial in the Waterport Cemetery.
Mr. Bailey was born in Montazuma, Cayuga county, October 23, 1856, and had resided in this vicinity most of his life.He had been in failing health for the last three years. His son, George Bailey, of the Town line road, and several nieces and nephews survive. Until removed to the hospital. Mr. Bailey had made his home with his son.

Roy BAILEY, 68, 747 Church St., died suddenly at the Medina Memorial Hospital
yesterday afternoon after having been admitted about an hour earlier. He was born
in the Town of Shelby, the son of the late Horace and Katherine RHINEHART BAILEY,
and had lived in this vicinity practically all his lifetime.
He was formerly employed by White Bros. Rose Corporation and was forced to retire
about three years ago on account of failing health.
Besides his widow, Laura C. [SETTY] BAILEY, he is survived by one son, Harry L. BAILEY, and three grandchildren of Medina; one brother, Claude BAILEY of Millville; one niece and one nephew. The home of Mr. and Mrs. E. (Everett) M. BAKER was saddened on Thursday last by the sudden death of their youngest daughter, Beatrice. Funeral services were held at the residence on Sunday afternoon. The sorrowing parents have the sympathy of their many friends.

After an illness of several months, Mrs. George BAKER died at her home in this village Monday, December 9, 1929, aged 63 years. Mrs. BAKER came from Hickling, England, nineteen years ago and was a resident of the town of Yates for ten years. She was a member of the Methodist church and the Brusie Guild.
The surviving relatives are a daughter, Mrs. Charles HUNGERFORD, and two sons, Stanley BAKER, and Rev. John BAKER of Central Square. The funeral will be held this Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at her late home and 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist church, Rev. George O. Fisher, officiating. Burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.

News has been received of the death of Charles BAKER, Jr., which occurred on Friday in Brooklyn, after a brief illness with Bright's disease. Deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles BAKER of this place and has many friends who will be pained to learn of his demise. A widow and one child survive him.

Charles H. BAKER died at his home, 261 Prospect Place, Brooklyn, on Friday, January, 30th, from diabetes, aged thirty-eight years. During the last few years he has won a deserved popularity and hosts of friends as treasurer of The Grand Opera House, Brooklyn, and formerly he was Treasurer of Shea’s Music Hall, in Buffalo. He is survived by his wife, Nellie COLLINS, his children, Homer E. and Ruth L., his parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. BAKER, his brother, Edward H. and Rev. James M. and his sister, Florence A., of Yonkers, N. Y. Interment at Evergreen cemetery, Brooklyn.

Baker and Mary Hinsdale of the Shelby Rd. The Baker family came from Camillus, NY abt 1867
and purchased the Shelby Rd farm. Charles A. Baker had 4 children, all mentioned as sibs
of my Charles H. in the obit. Three of the children were born in Camillus. The fourth,
Florence, was born in Shelby/Medina 6 Dec 1875. They all grew up on the Shelby Rd.
About 1903/4, the Smith family that lived up the road purchased the Baker farm and
added it to their own. Charles A. and Mary Baker then moved to Yonkers, NY, where Mary
died in 1905. Charles d. in 1909 in Poughkeepsie, NY

1. Edward Hinsdale Baker d. 1927 in Yonkers NY
2. Charles H. Baker d. in Brooklyn, NY in 1903, see obit. Insulin had not been discovered
in 1903. Diabetes was a death sentence at that time. His son, my father Homer Baker,
is mentioned in the obit. Homer held a world record in track (running) in 1914.
3. Rev. James Millard Baker as mentioned as sib. in the obit. became a
Baptist missionary in Ongole India. He died about 1951 in Asheville, N.C.
4. Florence Baker, the baby of the family became a social worker in the famous Henry St.
Settlement in NYC. She became the 3rd wife of John Clum, who had been an Indian Agent on
a reservation in AZ before he married Flo Baker. He captured Geronimo. The Gunfight at
the OK Corral occurred in front of his newspaper office in Tombstone AZ.
The movie, “Walk the Proud Land” (1940’s), starring Audie Murphy was about Clum’s life.
This was all before he married Flo Baker who was about 20 yrs younger than her husband.
Flo (d. 1961) and John Clum (d. 1932), both died in Los Angeles Calif.

Mrs. Helen HILL BAKER, widow of the Late Dr. Everett M. BAKER, died in Oklahoma City Saturday morning last. The body will be brought here for burial in Boxwood Cemetery on Tuesday, arriving on the 11:28 a.m. train and be taken immediately to the cemetery where a short service will be held.
Mrs. BAKER was born in Medina about seventy-four years ago and spent her early life here, moving to Oklahoma with her children twenty years ago. She is survived by Dr. Harold J. BAKER, a son, of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Mrs. Fred NEFF, a daughter, of Oklahoma City, and several grandchildren.

Albion, Jan. 20. - The sudden death of John BAKER, a former well-known Orleans county resident, occurred this morning at his home in Chicago. The cause of death was heart failure. His age was 46 years. Mr. Baker was born in the town of Carlton, June 30, 1864 and lived near Carlton Station until about eighteen years ago, when he moved to Chicago to engage in business.
He leaves his wife, a son, Henry Fitch BAKER, of Chicago, his widowed mother, Mrs. John Henry BAKER, of Carlton, and two sisters, Mrs. Rose B. LATTIN, and Mrs. Myron EGGLESTON, both of Gaines.
The remains will be brought to Albion for interment. - Democrat & Chronicle. Mr. Baker had many warm friends in Medina who will mourn his untimely death.

Yesterday, June 3rd, Judson C. BAKER, Sr. 70 years old, died at his home in East Shelby, leaving his wife, May C. BAKER; two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle BAKER SULLIVAN, Lockport; and Mrs. Florence B. SMITH, West Barre; five sons, Roy BAKER, West Barre; Howard BAKER, Oakfield; Murray Z., Judson C. Jr. and Edwin W., all at home; also six grandchildren. Mr. Baker was a charter member of the East Shelby Grange.

Mrs. Edward BAKER of South Main street passed away at 5:30 Saturday afternoon after a lingering illness. Deceased had resided in and about Medina all her life and although her death was not unexpected it came as a shock to her many friends. She was a devout Christian and through her long illness displayed the same degree of patience and Christian fortitude which characterized her entire life.
Besides her husband she is survived by three sisters, two brothers and several nephews who have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement. The funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at her late home, Rev. J. J. Allen, of the Baptist Church, of which deceased was for many years a member, officiating. Interment in the family lot at Boxwood Cemetery.

The body of Mrs. Mabel BAKER, wife of Henry BAKER, of North Tonawanda was brought here for burial in Lynhaven Cemetery Monday afternoon. Mrs. BAKER was 67 years old and was born in the town of Yates, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George THAYER, former residents. She was a relative of the THAYER and DATES families of this village.

Word was received here today of the death of Mary Louise BAKER, 8 months of age, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl BAKER. The infant died last night at her home in North Tonawanda.
Her parents were former Medina residents, and Mr. BAKER was employed by Murdock’s for several years. On May the first of this year, Mr. and Mrs. BAKER moved to North Tonawanda, where Mr. BAKER is operating a service station. The child is survived by her parents; grandparents, Charles G. BAKER, Medina, and Mr. and Mrs. Edward HOLLAND, North Tonawanda, and several aunts and uncles.

MILLVILLE - Funeral rites were conducted here this afternoon for Roy C. BAKER, 70, who died Friday in Medina Memorial Hospital. The Rev. Norman Tauscher of Millville Methodist Church conducted services at the family home on Wheeler Rd. Burial was in Millville Cemetery.
Mr. BAKER was born in Buffalo, Dec. 10, 1886. He was a member of the Methodist Church and of the Orleans County Farm Bureau.

Russel BAKER, a son of Mr. Christopher BAKER, living north-east of Lyndonville, went fishing with some other persons in Johnson's Creek, a few days since. All the party, except Russel, finally went home, leaving him behind. Not returning as soon as was expected, search was made for him, and he was found drowned in the creek. Deceased was 34 years of age, and was subject to epilepsy.

Mrs. Florence M. BALCERZAK, wife of Frank J. BALCERZAK, 923 Church St., died unexpectedly at 10:30 last night, climaxing a year’s illness. She was born in Medina Aug. 21, 1903, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank DUJENSKI, was educated in Medina schools, and resided here all her life. She was a member of St. Mary’s Mothers Club.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Robert, and three daughters, Mrs. Marcia TUOHEY, Miss Barbara BALCERZAK and Miss Shirley BALCERZAK, all of Medina; her mother, Mrs. Frank (Magdalene STACHOWIAK) DUJENSKI of Roseland Ave.; one sister, Miss Gertrude DUJENSKI of Medina; three brothers, Edmund and John DUJENSKI of Medina and Bernard DUJENSKI of Middleport.
Services will be held at the Cleary Funeral Home, Park Ave., at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, followed by Solemn Requiem Mass at St. Mary’s Church at 10 o’clock. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

The death of Mrs. Jadwiga Balcerzak, 68, wife of Michael Balcerzak, occurred at her home, 102 Horan road, yesterday afternoon following a short illness. Born In Poland on October 18, 1874, she had been a resident of Medina for over fifty years.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Anthony, Frank and William Balcerzak, all of Medina; three daughters, Mrs. Stanley Swiercznski of Albion; and Mrs. Edward Cotriss and Mrs. Walter Szczechowiak of Medina; two sisters, Mrs. Marcia Kujawa and Mrs. Esther Andrews of Medina; and twenty-nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held from her late home on Monday morning at 9:30 o’clock and 10:00 o’clock in Sacred Heart Church, with Rev. Max T. Bogacki officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Michael BALCERZAK, 91, died early this morning following a long illness at the home of his son, Anthony BALCERZAK of Beals Road. Mr. BALCERZAK was a blacksmith until his retirement thirty years ago, after which time he engaged in farming. He was born in Poland. He was a communicant of the Sacred Heart Church. His wife, Hedwig, died fourteen years ago.
Mr. Balcerzak is survived by three daughters; Mrs. Stanley (Edna) SWIERCZYNSKI of Albion, Mrs. Edward (Sophie) COTRISS and Mrs. Walter (Helen) SZCZECHOWIAK of Medina; three sons, Anthony, Frank and William, all of Medina; also 29 grandchildren and 30 greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was one of the founders of the Sacred Heart Church and a charter member of the Sacred Heart Society, holding the office of treasurer for 25 years. Prayer services will be held at the Gulinski Funeral Home, 420 Eagle St., at 9:45 a. m. Saturday and at 10:00 in the Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Joseph RYDZ officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

The death of Barry L. BALCH, 75, occurred Friday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joseph FREUMD of Short Hills, New Jersey, after an illness of several months.
Besides his daughter, he leaves two grandchildren, Gordon and Jane FREUMD of Short Hills; one sister, Vera E. BALCH; two nephews, Ted and Alton POLER; two neices, Jane POLER, all of Medina, and Cecelia POLER of Rochester and several cousins.
Mr. Balch was a resident of this vicinity for many years. Later he became interested in the lumber business and was a member of the Oakland Lumber Company of Jersey City.

David BALCH was born in the town of Deerfield, Mass., July 2d, 1804. When about six years old, his parents moved to Salina, Onondaga Co., then a thriving village on account of the extensive (salt?) works in its vicinity, Syracuse being in its infancy with but a few houses.
On January 20th, 1831, he was united in marriage to Polly COMSTOCK, of the same county, and together they traveled down life’s pathway 'till death did them part', his aged partner having departed this life February 24, 1895, aged eighty four years.
Soon after their marriage they came to this place and located on the farm now owned by John Sh--wood, north of Shelby Basin. After two or three years he sold that and purchased the one now owned by James Cullen on the same street. In 1841 he exchanged that farm for one on the Bates road, owned by his father-in-law, Jude COMSTOCK, where he continued to reside until his death July 29th, 1897, at the advanced age of ninety-three years and twenty-seven days.
He leaves to mourn his loss, besides a large circle of friends, who respected him for his uprightness of character and honorable dealings, four children - Jude II, of Janesville, Wis.; Mrs. T. A. BACON, Mrs. J. E. ALLIS and William J. BALCH, of this place.

Mrs. Polly, wife of David BALCH, died on Saturday, at the home of her son, William J. BALCH, on the Bates road, aged eighty-four years. Deceased was married sixty-four years ago, and together with her husband, who survives her, settled fifty-four years ago on the farm now owned by her son and where she had resided up to the time of her death.
Beside her husband, five children, three sons - Jude, of Janesville, Wis.; Irving and William J., of this place - and two daughters - Mrs. Truman BACON and Mrs. Jay ALLIS - are left to mourn her demise. The funeral services were held at her late home Tuesday afternoon and the remains interred in Boxwood Cemetery.

Albion - Oris C. BALCOM, 55, prominent produce dealer for a number of years and leading member of the Lions Club, died at his home in Childs yesterday after a short illness. Friends may call at the home, where funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday followed by interment in Mt. Albion Cemetery.
He served as president of the Lions Club in 1945-46. He was instrumental in organization of the local Lions Jungle, five or six years ago, and has served as its president, and it was through his efforts that the local Lions Club was able to purchase a house on North Main Street and convert it into a modern Lions home. He was especially interested in the annual plays given by the club for the service fund. He was a member of the First Church of Christ Science at Boston, Mass.
With a brother, Walter W. BALCOM, he conducted a grocery and produce business at Childs for 27 years. He was born in the Balcom homestead on Ridge Road a few houses east of his late home, and he had lived in that neighborhood all his life.
Besides his brother he leaves a sister, Mrs. George COLONEY, of Albion.

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Cecil BALDWIN were held at the home of her parents on State Street on Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and two children and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. MANHKE.
The funeral service was conducted by Rev. David A. Pearson and largely attended. The deceased was a member of the Berean Class of the Methodist Church and this organization attended in body. She was also a member of Mooseheart Legion and the committement service of her lodge was given at the grave.

Services Held Today For Child Killed In Holiday Accident
Funeral services for William BALDWIN, three and one-half year old son of Mr.and Mrs. Cecil
BALDWIN, 913 Orient Street, who was fatally injured when struck by an automobile on
Memorial Day, was held this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Hartt Funeral Home,
Pearl Street. The Rev. Ralph D. ROSS of the Baptist Church officiated and burial was in
Boxwood Cemetery.
The child and his two brothers, Herbert, 12, and Roger, 7, were spending the holiday weekend with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest SEITZ, Yates Center, their parents having left Friday morning for Hartford, Conn., to visit another son, Lester BALDWIN, and his wife. After witnessing a Memorial Day parade at Lyndonville in the morning, the group stopped at the Lyndonville Hotel, Roger remaining in the grandfather’s car, parked across the street. Little William left the hotel to join Roger in the car at approximately 12:15 o’clock noon, and as he was crossing the street ran into the path of a car driven by Mrs. Hattie WOODROE, Yates Center, according to Orleans County Sheriff Carl KLEINDIENST, who investigated. Mrs. WOODROE told officials that she saw the older boy near the car on the west side of the street, but did not see the smaller child crossing from the east side, until her car struck him.
Taken to Medina Memorial Hospital by a motorist, the child was pronounced dead of concussions upon arrival at 12:36 p.m. William was born in Medina on Feb. 28, 1944. Besides his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Roger and Herbert; a step-brother, Lester BALDWIN of Hartford, Conn., a step-sister, Betty BALDWIN of Medina, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. SEITZ of Lyndonville.

MEDINA—Funeral services, for Charles Bale, 79, who died Sunday night at his home,

Lyndonville - Frank E. BALE, 59, died at the Roswell Park Memorial Institute in Buffalo on October 12. He had been a patient there since April of this year, and had been in poor health for the past five years.
Mr. BALE was born in Town of Yates, March 29, 1895, the son of George and Minnie APPLIN BALE, and he had engaged in farming for most of his life. For one year, prior to his illness, he had been employed at the Medina plant of American Brake Shoe Co. In 1920 he was married to Azella JOSLIN of Lyndonville. Mr. BALE was a World War I veteran and a member of Butts-Clark Post 204, American Legion.
Besides his wife, survivors include his mother, Mrs. Minnie BALE of Medina; two brothers, Bert and Orie, both of Medina; two sisters, Mrs. Charles FRITCHER of Lyndonville and Mrs. Frank PLATT of Appleton. Also several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the Smythe Funeral Home Friday afternoon at 2 p. m. in charge of the Rev. Paul Thomson of Yates Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Albion - John B. BALESTER, 60, of 253 West Park Sr., died Friday in Arnold Gregory Hospital after a year's illness. Born in Akron, he had been a resident of Albion for the past 16 years. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, the Holy Name Society, Oak Orchard Yacht Club, Lockport Power Squadron and Albion Elks Lodge 1006. He was engaged in the used merchandise business until he was taken ill.

Albion - Joseph BALESTER, 81, for over 40 years proprietor of a neighborhood grocery store and market until his retirement five or six years ago, died in Arnold Gregory Memorial Hospital yesterday (March 20, 1962) after a long illness. He came to Albion from East Aurora in 1916 and opened a store adjoining his home on Chanberlain Street at that time. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church and its Holy Name Society.
He leaves four sons, John of Albion, J. Vincent of Miami, Fla., Nicholas of Detroit Mich., and Raymond of Washington D.C.; three daughters, Mrs. Leo LUDWICK od Albion, Mrs. Anthony FORGIONE of Rochester, and Mrs. Erma KUDELL Of Miami, Fla.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Clark BALL, former Medina man and well known here, died Tuesday at Hartford, Connecticut according to word received by his father Gain BALL of Genesse Street this morning.
The late Mr. BALL was 50 years of age and while the greater part of his life has been spent away from Medina, he received his early education here and spent his life as a young man in the employment of the Brainard Baking Company. When in his twenties be established connections with the Huyler Candy Company of New York and was rapidly promoted with the concern but soon left them to join his uncle Thomas EASLICK, well known throughout the theatrical world as Thomas MIACCO, in the show business. After the sudden and unfortunate death of Mr. EASLICK, Mr. BALL became manager of his brother-in-law Bob FITZSIMMONS, well known prize fighter. Of late years Mr. BALL has been engaged in various professions throughout the country.
About a year ago, preceeding the death of his mother, he spent several weeks in Medina. At that time he was connected with a tire company of Buffalo.
The remains will be brought to the home of his father, Gain BALL of Genesse Street, the only surviving relative, where funeral services will be held. Interment will be made here.

ALBION - Funeral services will be held in the Merrill-Grinnell Funeral Home here at 2 p.m. tomorrow for John R. BALL, one of Orleans County’s oldest citizens, whose death occurred early yesterday in the Rose Villa Nursing Home, where he had been a patient for several years. Mr. BALL was living in his one hundredth year, having celebrated his 99th birthday in September. Born in Hulberton, he lived in that vicinity the greater part of his life.
Surviving are 60 descendants. They include two daughters, Mrs. George BUELL of Medina and Mrs. Fred FRANK, Albion; a son, Floyd E. BALL of Holley; a sister, Mrs. Margaret ROSE of Elba; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren.
Burial will be in Murray Cemetery (aka Sandy Creek Cemetery).

Lyndonville - William A. Balschmiter, 75, a retired farmer, died this morning in Medina Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for one day. He had been ill for a week. Born Nov. 15, 1882 in Gruno, Germany, he was the son of the late Carl BALSCHMITER. He spent some time in the United States in 1913, and returned to the States in 1914. On March 25, 1914 he was married to Martha KOPITSKI of Barker and their home has been in the vicinity of Lyndonville for forty-three years. Mr. BALSCHMITER was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Medina.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Carl of Lyndonville, William P. of Hilton, Lester of Medina; three daughters, Mrs. Herbert CHURCH of Lockhaven, Pa., Mrs. Charles IVISON of Pittsford, Mrs. Albert ROOK of Spencerport; fifteen grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Smythe Funeral Home, with the Rev. Herman Lindke of Shelby Center officiating. Burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery. Friends may call (2-4:30, 7-9:30) athte funeral home.

William BANBROOK died Wednesday morning after a short illness at his home on State street. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Alice, and three sons, William, of Buffalo, Herman, of Detroit, and Frank, of California. Funeral arrangements have not been made.

The widow of the late Nathan BANCROFT died at her home on Center street on Sunday evening, from the effects of a fall received some two or three weeks ago. Deceased was fifty-three years of age, fifty of which had been passed in Medina.

MURDER - BROUGHTON Shoots and Kills Levant BANCROFT
Considerable excitement was created in Medina this morning by the news
that murder had been committed in the village during the night. In an interview with
Officer Beecher we were able to obtain the following particulars of the unfortunate
affair:
About 11:30 Mr. Beecher was aroused by a messenger with the information that
Levant BANCROFT had been shot. On hastening to the latter's residence on Rock Street,
the wounded man was found breathing his last. From Mrs. BANCROFT it was learned that
soon after eleven o'clock Asa BROUGHTON called at the house and asked to see
Mr. BANCROFT, requesting him to step outside. The latter invited him in, and after a
few words had passed between them they went out on the walk. There angry words ensued,
and finally the report of a revolver, followed by another in rapid succession. BANCROFT
walked into the house exclaiming “I'm shot! Asa BROUGHTON did it,” and expired within
fifteen minutes without uttering another word. On examination two frightful wounds were
discovered, one in his breast, the other in the region of the heart. It was also learned
that about six o'clock the same evening Mrs. BROUGHTON called at the same place
ostensibly to inquire the way to a house she was endeavoring to find. How prominently
she figures, if at all, in this affair, or what was the motive that prompted the murder,
has not yet developed. Our police officers forthwith instituted a search for Broughton,
but as yet he has eluded arrest.
Both parties were members of the Pitts Light Guard, BANCROFT being Orderly
Sergeant and BROUGHTON a private. The former was 45 years old, the latter 40. BANCROFT
taught school during the winter at East Shelby, and has since employed his time in
various ways; BROUGHTON worked at the trade of a cooper. They were well known in this
community, and being men of temperate habits and good character, as far as we are able
to learn, such a crime was little suspected, especially from a man apparently so
inoffensive as BROUGHTON.
Coroner Crandall impaneled a jury this morning, who, after viewing the remains,
adjourned further proceedings until Monday next.

EVENTS OF THE WEEK - THE MURDERER ARRESTED IN CANADA
News of the frightful tragedy, in which Levant BANCROFT of this place was murdered by Asa BROUGHTON, of Shelby, was received last week at the hour we were preparing for press, hence our report was somewhat meager. Various reports have since been in circulation regarding the motive that prompted Broughton to commit the deed, and many theories have been advanced regarding the affair, but a small part of which have savored of anything near the truth. In fact, the affair has been the leading and all absorbing topic of conversation, and not a little scandal regarding "the woman in the case" has been retailed. On one point all appear to agree, and that is that jealousy was what prompted the deed.
The funeral of the murdered man was held at the armory on Friday afternoon last. The remains were in charge of a detachment of the Pitts Light Guard detached for that purpose. The funeral was largely attended, the armory being filled. The exercises were as follows: Dirge by the band, reading of Scriptures and prayer, followed by very interesting and appropriate remarks by Rev. Mr. Randolph, pastor of the Universalist church at Ridgeway. Another dirge was then played and the procession formed and marched in the following order to the cemetery: Acer's band, Pitts Light Guards, hearse with escort, relatives and friends in carriages - a large number going to the burial place. Saturday morning a report that the grave of BANCROFT had been opened during the preceding night, and the body taken away, obtained quite a circulation through the town, but proved to be false.
The coroner's jury concluded their deliberations on Monday before Coroner Crandall and District Attorney Keeler. Nine or ten witnesses were sworn, and the verdict was that Levant BANCROFT came to his death by a ball fired from a revolver in the hands of Asa BROUGHTON; and further, that they considered Asa BROUGHTON guilty of murder. A few facts were brought out in the testimony that corroborate some of the rumors that have been afloat since the shooting occurred. It was shown that Mr. and Mrs. BROUGHTON quarreled on Wednesday; that she left the house and came to Medina to stay with friends; that as she did not return in the evening BROUGHTON sent his son to learn her whereabouts who returned with the information that she was at BANCROFT's; that BROUGHTON came down supposing she was at BANCROFT's where he had the encounter resulting in the murder. It was also shown that BROUGHTON probably went directly to his home in Shelby, changed his clothes and, taking a change of underwear, started northward, going to Kenyonville, where he worked last season, and where money was still due him. He returned to Shelby and conversed with his son.
On Thursday, the day after the murder, Sheriff Munn offered a (reward) of $100 for Broughton's arrest, which sum was subsequently increased to $300. Officers have since been traversing the country in search of him. Rumors have been afloat that this man and that man had seen him at various places in the town of Shelby; but finally yesterday afternoon a telegram was received from Deputy Sheriffs Beecher and Rice, from Hagersville, Ont., that they had arrested Broughton near the line of the Canada Southern Railroad about sixty miles from Buffalo. He was brought to town this morning on the 8:37 train, and an examination is being held at the Armory at this time of writing.
Just before going to press we learn from Deputy Sheriff Rice that BROUGHTON talks freely and gave a full account of his encounter with BANCROFT and his endeavor to escape. He states that he went directly to Shelby after the shooting, thence down near Kenyonville and returned to Shelby, corroborating the testimony before the Coroner. After the interview with his son on Thursday morning he made his way west, crossed the railroad near Middleport and proceeded northwest until arriving at the residence of a cousin in the town of Hartland where he remained and worked on the latter’s farm during Friday. His cousin learning on Friday evening, from a Lockport paper, of the crime he had committed declined to shelter him longer so he proceded to the Niagara River where he arrived Saturday night. It was so dark he could not effect a crossing until four o’clock the following morning when he performed the perilous feat of crossing on the wires suspended upwards of a hundred feet above the river near Lewiston. (The wires referred to are those left of the old Suspension Bridge at that place, and it is said no one ever dared to cross them before. At the time BROUGHTON crossed officers Fuller, Allen and others from this place were within six miles of him.) During Sunday BROUGHTON says he walked sixty-five miles to a place near where he was captured. After considerable difficulty officers Beecher and Rice found him on Wednesday at the residence of his sister. He made no resistance, and expressed himself as almost glad they had come for him, as he was in constant misery. We understand he makes a plea of self defense, as his excuse for the shooting.

Mrs. Emma BANE, 81, died at her home, 135 North Main street, Thursday morning, December 28, 1939, at 3 o’clock, after a short illness. Death was the result of a heart attack. She was the widow of the late Fred BANE and was born in the town of Yates March 14, 1858.
Surviving are four sons, Frank BANE of Webster; Leonard, Fred and Timothy BANE of Lyndonville; a brother, George HOUSEMAN of Ashwood; thirteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held at the home on Saturday afternoon, Rev. F. Mittlefehldt of Buffalo, officiating. Burial was in Lynhaven Cemetery. The bearers at the funeral were Jay W. Barry, Edwin W. Barry, Richard N. Parsons, Arthur Squire, Thomas J. Sullivan, and Charles E. Dates.
Mrs. Emma BANE’s obituary in The Medina Daily Journal, Fri. Dec. 29, 1939 added that Mr. Bayne(sic) died twenty-three years ago.

Lyndonville - Death came instantly to a Lyndonville couple early Sunday morning when their auto swerved, left the road, leaped and skidded 140 feet and finally caught fire at a point on Roosevelt Highway (Route 18), a few miles west of here and near the settlement of County Line. Mr. and Mrs. Howard L. BANE, 42 and 39, respectively, were victims of the tragedy and they leave a family of eight children, who are today living with their grandmother, Mrs. Clara BANE, at the home of Keith N. BANE, Petrie Rd.
The two victims were returning via Roosevelt Highway to their home on Lower Lake Rd. north of County Line after an evening of shopping in Lyndonville and they were carrying two five-gallon drums of kerosene in the back of the auto, one of which burst into flames, adding to the blaze of the auto.
Funeral services have been scheduled for tomorrow at 2 p.m. from the Smythe Funeral Home, N. Main St., with the Rev. Raymond Draffin of First Methodist Church officiating and burial in Lynhaven Cemetery.
Following an autopsy ordered by State Police investigators and performed by Pathologist Dr. Joseph Tannenberg of Batavia, a certificate of accidental death has been issued. Dr. David Fraser, Orleans County coroner, who issued the certificate today, listed the cause of death as “unavoidable due to mechanical impact.” He reported that the severe burns and death were instantaneous. No witnesses were found who could give State Police an exact accounting of the tragedy. Mr. and Mrs. George Grant, farm workers and occupants of a tenant house on the Bertrand Todkill farm, heard and felt the impact when the car grazed a side of their house before coming to rest against a tree. They told police, “We ran out of the front door and the car was already burning when we got there.”
Firemen from Lyndonville were called, arriving shortly before 1 a. m., according to Chief Watson Plummer. The blaze had subsided by that time and investigators determined that the two were pinned in the wreckage and would have been unable to get free of the car, if they had been conscious after the crash.
The BANES had come here to shop sometime after 8 p. m. according to their oldest daughter, Clara, 15, who was left to take care of the youngsters at home. An older brother, John, 19, was at his job in the Lockport City Hospital when the parents left.
Cause Unknown
No exact explanation of the cause of the accident has been
determined by State Police. Tire marks in the highway indicated that
the car started to swerve and skid on the pavement, then left the right
side of the road.
The skidding auto traveled 100 feet before it struck a stone
abutment, and then, according to Trooper Arthur Haines, it apparently
left the ground, turned over and hit the tree. The total distance was
estimated at about 140 feet.
The car was completely demolished and its contents of groceries
scattered about the area. Mr. Grant, occupant of the tenant house near
the scene, went immediately to the home of Thomas Manning, who manages
the Todkill farm, to call assistance.
The dead man was employed by the Upson Company in Lockport, where he had worked for nine years. Prior to that time he had lived for several years on Eagle St. in Medina, while working at Niagara Chemical Div. in Middleport. The couple moved to Lower Lake Road about three years ago.
Besides John and Clara, other children of the victims are Howard, 13, Arnold, 11, Loretta, 7, Robert, 5, Herbert, 3, and Shirley, 2. BANE also leaves his mother, Mrs. Clara BANE of Marshall Rd., Lyndonville RD; four brothers, Leo of Rochester, Keith, Irving and Earl, all of Lyndonville RD; and a sister, Mrs. Myrtle HILL of Rochester. She leaves her mother, Mrs. Catherine TANNER of Marshall Rd.; her father, Alonzo TANNER of Lockport; a brother, Harold of Maryland; and two sisters, Mrs. Edna HUNDSHAMER of Lockport and Mrs. Margaret BURNDT of Rapids.

The death of Mrs. Eliza BANKER, aged 66 years, occurred at her home in Knowlesville last night following a long illness. The deceased is the widow of the late Bert BANKER of that place who for many years was in charge of the Medina water works.
Mrs. BANKER was born in England and came to Knowlesville 52 years ago. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ula STEWARD, Medina, Mrs. Loraine ARMSTRONG, Knowlesville, Mrs. Laura MAYER, Lockport, three sons, Leon and Laverne of Knowlesville and Stanley of Eagle Harbor, four sisters, Mrs. Blanche BERRY, Kenyonville, Mrs. Rose SCHRADER, Millville, Mrs. Laura DODD of Charlotte, Michigan and Mrs. Carrie WOOLSTON of Yates and six brothers, J. T. LACEY of Kendall, George LACEY of Middleport, A. B. of Medina, Ernest, Herbert and Delbert LACEY of Lyndonville.
Funeral services will be held from her late home Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock with burial at Tanner Cemetery.

Frank S. BANKER, aged 53 years, who came to Shelby Center from Buffalo nearly a year ago, died Saturday after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Elsie. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon in the undertaking parlors of H. LeBaron Hartt Co. Burial was in Boxwood Cemetery.

A. D. BANNISTER, one of the best known farmers in the town of Barre, died Saturday evening as a result of an accident that occurred while he was driving home from Albion with a load of tile on a lumber wagon. When near Bragg’s Corners on the new Barre state road, one of the tugs of the harness became unfastened allowing the whiffletree to drop down against one of the horses, on a slight down grade. The team became frightened and started to run. A bolt dropped out of place, permitting the whiffletrees to drop and the neck yoke to slip over the end of the wagon tongue. When the team jumped, Mr. BANNISTER, who was 68 years of age, was thrown to the cement highway, where he struck on his head. His skull was fractured at the base and he was made unconscious.
Dr. L. G. Ogden, of Barre Center, was summoned and the injured man was taken to his home, one-half mile south of West Barre village. He died at 7:30 o’clock without recovering consciousness.

Edgar David BANISTER, 70 years old, of Albion, who for 25 years was a traveling salesman in Western New York for a Rochester firm, died Friday at his home after an illness of several months. Mr. BANISTER was born in the town of Yates, Orleans county. He had been a life long resident of the county and lived in Albion 30 years.

The death of John BANNON, aged 46 years, occurred at his home at 181 State Street (Medina) Wednesday morning. Death was a result of pneumonia. The deceased is survived by a wife and three children. Funeral services are to be held Saturday morning at nine o’clock from St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Holley - Leonard BARBER, 61, of 62 State Street, died Tuesday (Dec 12, 1944). Born in Italy, he had been a resident here for 42 years.
He is survived by his wife (Carmel); two daughters, Mrs. Charles COMDEN, Holley, and Mrs. Joseph SIMMONS of Richmond, Calif., one son, Angelo of Syracuse; three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Albion - Russell BARCELONA, 74, for a number of years proprietor of a local restaurant before his retirement a few years ago, died at the Arnold Gregory Memorial Hospital Saturday, Dec. 25, after a long illness. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and its Holy Name Society, and of the Albion Elks.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Josephine SEDITA BARCELONA; three sons, Joseph of Albion, Charles of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Jack of Snyder; seven daughters, Mrs. Charles (Grace) FRUSHONE, Mrs. Ivy PHILLIPS, Mrs. Christopher PAGE, Mrs. William DEPAMMA and Mrs. Nunzio SAEVA, all of Albion; Mrs. Terral McVEY of Hollywood and Mrs. John DISTON of Pacoma, Calif.; as well as a brother, Jack, of San Jose Calif. and 12 grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Christopher Funeral Home at 354 W. State St., where the Holy Name Society will call in a body at 8 p.m. today and the Albion Elks at 8 Tuesday. Prayer services will be held there at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, followed by services at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Joseph BARCHELL, 83, died suddenly this morning at his home, 413 Commercial Street. He was born in Buffalo and lived here most of his lifetime. Mr. BARCHELL was a blacksmith by trade and owned a shop in Proctor Place for 40 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary's church and a member of the Holy Name Society of that church.
He is survived by two sisters, Miss Josephine BARCHELL, Medina and Mrs. Edwin POLSTER, Lockport; one brother, John, Lockport; two nieces and three nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 8:30 from his late home and at 9 o’clock in St. Mary’s church. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Mrs. E. (Ely) C. BARDWELL, of Medina, in this state, came to Rome a few weeks since
on a visit to her mother, Mrs. E. F. ARMSTRONG. She was taken ill soon after her
arrival, and, in spite of all that could be done for her, grew worse day by day until
Friday, when she died. Mrs. BARDWELL was born in Vernon, but her parents removed to
Rome when she was quite young. And here she grew to womanhood. Many friends and
acquaintances sincerely mourn her loss. The funeral took place last Monday.

Charles BARHITE passed away on Sunday evening at his home on Prospect Avenue, after a few days' illness with pneumonia. Mr. BARHITE was born in Locke, N. Y., in 1851. He had resided in Medina fortyfive years, during which time he was actively engaged in business and was highly esteemed by his townsmen. He is survived by his wife, two sons, William and Tunis of Medina, and two daughters, Mrs. Mabel WHITE of Albion, and Mrs. Leo (Delia) WALDNER of Detroit. The funeral occurred yesterday afternoon, with interment at Boxwood Cemetery.

William BARHITE, 67, former member of the Village Board, twice Supervisor of the Town of Ridgeway, and well-known in this area as a construction contractor, died suddenly at 6:30 p.m. last night at his home, 208 Prospect Ave. He had celebrated his 67th birthday Monday.
BARHITE's death came suddenly last night as the result of a heart ailment from which he had suffered an attack a few weeks ago. He had recovered from this setback sufficiently to return to active conduct of his business affairs.
Born and raised in Medina, he attended local schools and became widely-known throughout Orleans County during his lifetime. He held memberships in the Elks and Moose Lodges here and was for many years a member of Medina Lodge 336, F. & A.M.
Beginning his experience in the construction business with A. L. Swett, he aided in building the Waterport Dam, was later employed in construction work for the state and, in 1922, entered into a partnership with Charles Ingersoll, Sr., as a contractor.
The firm of INGERSOLL & BARHITE was known for road construction in and around Medina, Hornell, Binghamton, Bergen, Hi1ton, Churchville, at Letchworth Park and other points in this state. The two continued in partnership until Ingersoll's death and BARHITE purchased the entire business around 1932. In public offices he served during the years 1914-17 as a member of the Village Board. He served as Supervisor of the Town of Ridgeway during the 1934-35 term and again for two terms between 1942-45.
Surviving relatives include two sisters, Mrs. Mabel WHITE, Albion, and Mrs. Delia WALDNER, Detroit; a brother, Mayor Tunis BARHITE of Medina, and several nieces and nephews. Services are to be held from the O'Reilly Funeral Home, East Center St., Sunday at 2:30 p. m. with the Rev. John E. Wilkinson officiating. Burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery.

The funeral service of Mrs. Robert BARKER of Eagle Harbor, who died Tuesday in a Rochester hospital, is being arranged for 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at McNall's mortuary. Burial will be made in Otter Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. BARKER was born Nov. 28, 1853 in England. She belonged to Eagle Harbor Methodist Church. The survivors consist of a daughter, Mrs. James CHAMBERS of Albion; two brothers, Richard and Robert PREST of Albion and a granddaughter and a grandson in Albion.

The death of Miss Nina BARKER, 82, occurred this morning in Resthaven Nursing Home, Gasport, following a long period of illness. She had lived for many years in her home on the Maple Ridge Road, a short distance east of Medina.
Born in Medina, her parents were Francis and Margaret SHISLER BARKER. She was a member of the Tuesday Club and the local Order of Eastern Star, and belonged to the Methodist Church here. For some years she was tax collector for the Town of Shelby.

Mrs. Frances BARLOW, aged 69, died at her home in Middleport Wednesday afternoon, October 26, 1927. She is survived by her husband, Andrew BARLOW; two sons, Frazer BARLOW of Johnson Creek, and Ross BARLOW of Lyndonville; one daughter, Ethel BARLOW of Middleport; four brothers, George PRUDOM of Jeddo, Will PRUDOM of Johnson Creek, Albert PRUDOM of the Carmen road, and Charles PRUDOM Of Red Creek; and three grandchildren. The funeral was held Saturday at the Middleport Methodist church, Rev. F. C. House, officiating. Burial was at West Ridgeway Cemetery.

Mrs. Lillian Hoyt BARNARD died Saturday morning at her home in Rochester following a long illness. She leaves her husband, Dr. James S. BARNARD; a brother, George H. HOYT, and two nieces and two nephews. Mrs. BARNARD was born in Clyde in 1863. She was married to Dr. BARNARD there and later moved to Baltimore to where she lived for eighteen years. She then moved to Rochester and has lived here since that time.
Rev. Sherman L. Devine, minister of the Central Presbyterian Church officiated at the funeral, which took place Tuesday morning from the home. Burial was in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Mrs. George BARNES died Monday at the home of her son-in-law, Edward GIBBONS, of the English Settlement, aged 80 years. The deceased is survived by two sons, Thomas BARNES, of Lockport, and Solomon BARNES, of Free Rivers, Provience, Quebec; and one daughter Miss Hannah POYNTER, of Norwich, England. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon.

Joseph BARNSDELL died last week after prostrated sickness with rheumatism, aged sixty-seven. He came from England years ago a poor boy. By earnest and faithful toil he accumulated a competence. For many years he cared for a poor brother and for the widow in recent years.

LYNDONVILLE - Alton A. BARNUM, 71, of Yates Center, died last night in Roswell Park Memorial Institute, Buffalo. In poor health for more than a year, he had been hospitalized for the past three weeks. Born April 23, 1898 in Yankton, S.D., he was the son of William and Anna SMITH BARNUM. The family moved to this vicinity when he was two years old. He married Mary SAXTON of Jeddo on April 7, 1933. Mr. BARNUM was a member of the Royal Order of Moose of Medina and was a former member of the Lyndonville I.O.O.F. Lodge. He was a painter and later operated his grocery business at Yates Center until he retired. Surviving besides his wife are four brothers, Lowell, William, Clifton and Irving, all of Lyndonville; one sister, Mrs. Earl (Dorothy) DUNHAM of Waterport; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Smythe Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Richard Billingsley, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church in Lyndonville. Friends may call at the funeral home today (7-9) and tomorrow (2-4,7-9) and burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Lyndonville - Mrs. Anna M. BARNUM, 82, widow of the late T. Edward BARNUM, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Oakley PARSELS, East Yates Center, yesterday morning. Although Mrs. BARNUM had been in poor health for several years, her death followed a more severe illness of about two months.
Mrs. BARNUM was born in Carlton May 17, 1869, daughter of Olin and Maria RAMSHAW FULLER. She married Mr. BARNUM of Lyndonville on Nov. 27, 1890, and they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1940, prir(prior) to Mr. BARNUM’s death. She was a member of Lyndonville Methodist Church, a member and past matron of Yates Chapter 215, O.E.S., and an honorary member of the Literary and Historical Club.
Funeral service will be held from Smythe Funeral Home Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Raymond Draffin officiating and burial in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Lyndonville - Mrs. Anna BARNUM, 80, Lower E. Lake Shore Rd., died early this morning at the Arnold Gregory Hospital, Albion, where she had been a patient for one day. She was born Aug. 13, 1874, in Norwich, England, the daughter of William and Rebecca SMITH, and she came to this country at an early age.
In 1891 she was married to William BARNUM of Lyndonville, who died in 1930. Mrs. BARNUM lived in this vicinity practically all of her lifetime. She was a member of Kuckville Methodist Church and a member of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.
Survivors include seven sons and one daughter, including Newell, Vernon, Lowell, Alton, William, Irving, and Clifton, all of Lyndonville, and Mrs. Roy MERRILL of Waterport. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in the Smythe Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Thursday, in charge of the Rev. Howard Pasel, pastor of Kuckville Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Dr. Eugene E. BARNUM died at his home in Gaines, October 4th. He was a native of the town of Yates. He studied medicine in the University of Buffalo, and after graduation from that institution served a year as senior assistant physician in the Rochester City Hospital at Rochester. He then practiced several years at Waterport, after which he moved to Lancaster, Virginia, on account of failing health. Finding he could not endure the exposure of a physician’s life he finally retired from practice, and returned to Gaines where he has since been engaged in farming.

Irving A. BARNUM, 75, of 12493 East Lake Road, Lyndonville, died Sunday morning at the Medina Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Mr. BARNUM was born May 30, 1904, in the Town of Yates, the son of William H. and Anna SMITH BARNUM. He had lived in the Town of Yates all his life. He had farmed up until his retirement in 1959 and was a member of the Methodist Church of Kuckville.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Earl (Dorothy) DUNHAM of Waterport; a brother, Clifton Barnum of Lyndonville; five sisters-in-law, Mrs. Newell (Adah) BARNUM, Mrs. Lowell (Marie) BARNUM, Mrs. William (Alice) BARNUM, Mrs. Alton (Mary) BARNUM, and Mrs. Vernon (Edith) BARNUM, all of Lyndonville, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no prior calling hours. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. for friends and relatives at the Barnes-Tuttle Inc. Funeral Home, 112 North Main St., Lyndonville. The Rev. Ray Hazlett will officiate and burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery, Lyndonville. Memorials may be made to the Heart Fund.

The death of Lowell BARNUM, Monday morning, removed a well known citizen. His general manner attracted to him all who met him, his presence seemed to impart the cheer of a bright day. Mr. BARNUM had passed his seventy-first birthday. Four brothers and one sister, with the wife (Olive ROOT), three sons and one daughter compose the immediate family, who have the sympathy of a wide circle of relatives and friends. The funeral services were held at the Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. Mr. Decker officiating.

LYNDONVILLE - Vernon L. BARNUM, 70, of 21 Eagle St., died Wednesday (Aug. 12, 1964) in Roswell Park Memorial Institute, Buffalo, after an illness of six weeks. He was born April 16, 1894, at Volin, near Yankton, S.D. In his early youth the family moved to the Town of Yates, Orleans County. He engaged in farming for many years and was employed for about 14 years on the custodial staff of Lyndonville Central School until his retirement two years ago. He was a member of Yates Baptist Church. Surviving are his widow, Edith (BROWN); two sons, Vernon Jr. and Weldon, of Medina; two daughters, Mrs. Charles HEDLEY of Lyndonville and Mrs. Harold GEIGER of Medina; 13 grandchildren; six brothers, Newell, Lowell, Alton, William, Irving and Clifton, all of Lyndonville; one sister, Mrs. Ray Dorothy MERRILL of Waterport; several nieces and nephews. LYNDONVILLE - William A. BARNUM, 74, of 1600 N. Lyndonville Rd. died Friday night at Arnold Gregory Memorial Hospital, Albion, after a short illness. The Rev. Duane R. Hauser officiated at funeral services this afternoon from the Barnes-Tuttle Funeral Home, 112 N. Main St. Burial was in Lynhaven Cemetery. He was born in Volin, S. Dakota, April 9, 1900, the son of the late William H. and Anna Marie SMITH BARNUM. He was a barber in Lyndonville for 51 years and semi-retired in 1968. Mr. BARNUM was past master of Yates Masonic Lodge and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lyndonville and an exempt member of the Lyndonville Fire Co.
Surviving are his widow, Alice DRAPER BARNUM; a daughter, Miss Shirley BARNUM of Rochester; one sister, Mrs. Earl DUNHAM (Dorothy) of Waterport; two brothers, Irving and Clifton both of Lyndonville; four sister-in-laws, Mrs. Newell BARNUM and Mrs. Alton BARNUM both of Yates Center, and Mrs. Lowell Barnum and Mrs. Vernon Barnum of Lyndonville; several nieces and nephews. WILLIS BARNUM DIES AT AGE 91
Willis E. BARNUM, a member of Tucson's original Selecive Service Board and a longtime member of the Randolph Golf Course greens committee, died yesterday.
He was 91. Mr. BARNUM, who lived at 1810 E. 5th St., served with Selective Service 27 years until his retirement in 1967.
He received an award for outstanding citizenship in Tucson last year for his work in developing the Randolph Municipal Golf Course. Serving on the greens
committee for 27 years, Mr. BARNUM was chairman from 1926 to 1953. The Randolph Park land was partially donated to the city by him.
Mr. BARNUM owned a car dealership in Safford before coming to Tucson in the early 1930's. He did private home building on a small scale
until 1940, when he retired. A scoutmaster for Troop 1 in Tucson, Mr. BARNUM was a third cousin of the famous circus man, P.T. BARNUM.
Mr. BARNUM and his wife, the late Laura ENGLISH BARNUM, came to Arizona from New York state in 1903. He was a member of the Kiwanis and
Rotary clubs, the American Institute of Mining Engineers, the Instituto Mexicano de Minas y Metallurgia of Mexico, Masonic Lodge No. 4,
Scottish Rite of Tucson and the Shrine in Phoenix. He was also director of the Tucson Chamber of Commerce at one time.
He is survived by a son, Willis E. BARNUM Jr., of Long Beach, Calif., a grandaughter, Patricia Christy BARNUM BILLINGS (Mrs. Bruce BILLINGS) of Tucson and greatgrandsons, Stephen and David BILLINGS. Arrangements are pending at Arizona Mortuary East.

Almira FLOOD BARRETT Died, at her home in Ridgeway on 2/19/1899. Mrs. Almira Flood Barrett, widow of Luther BARRETT, aged 92 yrs.
Mrs. BARRETT was born in Londonderry, Vt. 1/2/1802 (1806). In 1833 her parents moved to Erie County in this state. Two yrs. later she married Luther BARRETT and came to Ridgeway where the young couple built the house which the wife was spared to occupy and enjoy for 64 yrs. It was always a happy, restful home where friends and acquaintances delighted to gather and was to the children a sacred realm where loving kindness, gentleness and tact were the inspiration to all that was beautiful and true in life.
In the 25 yrs. of her widowhood Mrs. BARRETT was not left alone. One daughter stayed by her side to minister lovingly and faithfully to her needs and smooth her pathway onward, until she was summoned to meet the husband from whom she had so long been separated in that other land "across the river". Her "four score and twelve years" brought no shadow upon her mind, no gradual failing of her intellect. Always keen and observant, she was greatly interested in the current events or the world's daily history as told in the various periodicals upon her table.
With her death the last of the early settlers on the Ridge road has passed away. She has four children to "rise up and call her blessed", all of whom are living- Sylvester, the only son, Miss Dora BARRETT and Mrs. H.J. TANNER all of Ridgeway and Mrs. A.S. WELD of North Dakota. The services were held at the home, Rev. W.B. Howell officiating. He paid a feeling and eloquent tribute to her long useful and beautiful life as wife, mother and friend.

On the morning of the 23d inst., our community was shocked by the sudden and unexpected death of one of our prominent business men, Mr. Daniel BARRETT, of the firm of Kearney, Barrett & Co., extensive dealers in quarry stone at this place. A few weeks since Mr. BARRETT had taken a business trip to Chicago and intermediate points for the purpose of closing up the years’ business of his firm with western customers. On his return, and just before reaching home, he had a severe attack of lumbago, which continued in an aggravated form for some days after his return. His sufferings from this attack were excruciating, and as a result he was much reduced and enfeebled when his physician finally obtained control of the disease. He had, however, so far recovered on Monday, the 19th inst., as to be upon the street and transact some business, but immediately succeeding this, and on Tuesday morning, he was attacked with hemorrhage of the lungs. On Thursday Dr. E. M. Moore, of Rochester, was called in consultation with Dr. Chapman, the attending physician, and after an examination of the case found no apparent reason why Mr. BARRETT would not recover. On Thursday evening Mr. BARRETT spent the time in lively and cheerful conversation with his friends and in making calculations respecting his business future, but later, and about four o’clock A. M. of Friday, he was attacked with a hemorhage which proved fatal in the short space of five minutes. And thus are we again reminded that “in the midst of life we are in death."
Mr. BARRETT was about forty years of age. About seven years since he was united in marriage to Miss Anna E. KEARNEY, a daughter of the late James KEARNEY, of this place, who, together with two children, survive him. Previous to June 1878, Mr. BARRETT had been engaged in merchantile pursuits at Niagara Falls, where he had sustained an honorable and useful position for some years. At the last mentioned date Mr. BARRETT, having become interested in the Kearney quarry, became a resident of our village, and since which his in-comings and out-goings have been familiar to our people. It is not too much to say that by his thorough business training, his attention to business, his affability and his punctilious regard for all the details of a large business, and for everything which might affect the business standing of his firm, stamped him as an honest, careful and sagacious business man, and attached to him as friends all with whom he came in contact. His death is a public loss and deeply regretted by our people, not only on the score of friendship, but as affecting our business interests.
Mr. BARRETT was one of the original founders of the "Catholic Mutual Benefit Association," had served as Grand President of this State, and upon the completion of the National Organization, was made "Supreme President" of the United States and Canada, which position he held at the time of his decease. His funeral was held at St. Mary’s Church, in this place, on Monday, the 26th, Rev. W. J. McNab, assisted by Revs. Cannon, 1 Darey, Daly and Lanigan, officiating. Delegations from branches of the association of which he was the founder and head, were present from Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Lockport, Albion, Detroit, Spencerport, Seneca Falls, Windsor and Toronto, Can., and Titusville, Pa., and the church was crowded with these and the citizens of our village. Verily, "a good man has fallen,” but “his works do follow him.”

Mr. Sidney BARRETT, a well known resident of this place, was found dead in a bathtub at his residence on West Center street Sunday forenoon. Mr. BARRETT was taking a bath when he was seized with an epileptic attack, and when his mother, Mrs. J. Milo WELD, went for him, she found him in the bathtub, but life was extinct. Dr. Munson and Coroner Fairman were notified, and they pronounced death due to drowning as the result of an epileptic seizure, of which he was subject.
The deceased was thirty nine years of age, and, although of a quiet and retiring disposition, was highly esteemed among his acquaintances. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American war, having enlisted as a member of Company F, of this place, and served during that war.
Mr. Barrett is survived by his mother, Mrs. WELD, and a sister, Mrs. Chahles(sic) SKINNER, of Carlton. The funeral was held from his late residence at two o’clock this afternoon, the Rev. Charles Chapin, of the Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Mrs. Stella VAIL BARRETT, 78, East Shelby, died at her home early Tuesday evening. She is
survived by her husband, John BARRETT; one daughter, Mrs. Clark FIDINGER, Oakfield; and
one brother, Henry VAIL, Akron. She is also survived by several nephews & nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Friday afternoon from the home with interment in Millville Cemetery. The Rev. Carroll E. Halbert will officiate at the services.

On Wednesday morning, January 2, 1918, at the family home, occurred the death of Sylvester F. BARRETT. He had been ill with pneumonia but a few days, and the news of his death was indeed a great shock to many of his friends. Mr. BARRETT the only son of Luther BARRETT and Almira FLOOD was born December 28, 1835. He spent his entire lifetime of eighty-two years on the same farm purchased in 1831 by his father, who came from Vermont.
On December 27, 1866, he married Aurelia BOWEN, daughter of the late Ambrose BOWEN, who lived but four years. His second marriage to Miss Fannie A. CLAPP occurred May 13?, 1873. Besides his widow, he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Henry J. TANNER and Miss Dora R. BARRETT, of Medina; and Mrs. Andrew S. Weld of Cleveland, North Dakota.
Mr. BARRETT was esteemed by all who knew him, and his host of friends indeed feel that the place he has left vacant will not readily be filled. The many relatives and acquaintances will never forget the warm hospitality ever extended them by Mr. BARRETT and his faithful wife, who for forty-four years has been his helpmate in the full sense of the word.
The funeral services held on Friday afternoon at two oclock, were largely attended, Rev. I. V. Lobdell, of the Ridgeway Universalist Church officiating. Interment at West Ridgeway Cemetery.

recording the death of an old and highly esteemed friend and one of our most
faithful and popular contributors. For nearly twenty-four years, with the
exception of one week, the TRIBUNE has not been issued, without the
appearance of a Lyndonville letter from "B" and we know that none of our
valuable corps of correspondents will be so greatly missed by our readers as
the one who has been so faithful to their interests, and who is now at rest
in the sleep which knows no awakening here on earth.
Benjamin B. BARRY, whose death occurred at his home in Lyndonville, on the evening of December 24th, after two weeks illness with heart failure, was born in the town of Yates in November 1828. He was the son of the late James BARRY, one of the pioneers of that town, who was the father of nine children, six of whom survive; also the aged mother, Mrs. Martha BARRY, in her 89th year, who resides with her daughter, Louise, at Knowlesville. Mr. BARRY's first wife was Louise CADY, who died in 1859. He afterward married Maryette AYER, who lives to mourn the decease of a kind, patient, sympathetic and indulgent husband. There are also six surviving children- five sons and one daughter- and the entire family, have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their sad bereavement.
Mr. BARRY had been a farmer until a few years since, and had held various offices of trust and responsibility. He was some years ago elected Justice of Sessions on the Republican ticket, and was for many years Justice of the Peace. He was a member of the Methodist Church, and having a fair musical talent was for fifty years chorister of the Lyndonville Church. Of the deceased it may be truly said he was conscientious and faithful in the performance of every duty, whether it was in attending to his religious devotions, his business interests or his labors as a contributor for the press.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church, Lyndonville, yesterday afternoon, the pastor, Rev. R. Copeland, officiating.

[Lyndonville] Mrs. Ella Percina BARRY, aged 77, widow of William BARRY, died Sunday afternoon in Medina Memorial hospital, where she had been a patient since Feb. 11. She had been in poor health for several years. Born May 11, 1867, near Gloversville, she was the daughter of Michael and May GEPHART. Mrs. BARRY had spent most of her lifetime in this vicinity. She was a member of the First Methodist church, and was a teacher in the Sunday school for many years.
Her daughter, Mrs. Lucy WIRTH, died in September, 1941. She is survived by her son-in-law, Robert WIRTH, with whom she resided; three grandchildren, Pfc. Robert WIRTH, Jr., with the Armed Forces, serving in Germany, Audrey and Marilyn WIRTH, at home; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the Smythe Funeral home, with Rev. Elmer A. Belknap officiating. Burial was in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Mrs. Newton J. BARRY died at her home on Main street Sunday afternoon, August 23, 1931, at 5 o’clock, after an illness of over three years, aged 71 years, 11 months and 7 days. Flora SWAIN BARRY was born on September 16, 1859 in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of the late E. J. and Emily SWAIN, and came to Lyndonville at the age of 16. She married Newton J. BARRY on October 23, 1881, and the couple moved into the house where they have since resided for nearly fifty years. Mrs. BARRY was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and was active in church work. She was a member of the Brusie Guild, a charter member of the King’s Daughters, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, being one of the first to be initiated when Yates Chapter, No. 215, was organized here.
Surviving are her husband, Newton J. BARRY; three sons, Mark P., Frank S., and Stanley R. BARRY, all of Lyndonville; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, besides two nieces and a nephew. The funeral service was held at the home on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30, Rev. Frederick Mittlefehldt, officiating. The 0. E. S. and the Brusie Guild attended the funeral in a body. Burial was in Lynhaven Cemetery.
The bearers were Jay W. Breed, Charles O. Turner, E. M. Hill, Frank F. Lott, Ernest S. Breed and Edwin W. Barry.

Frank S. BARRY, 65, well known resident of the town of Yates, was burned to death early Monday when the frame dwelling, in which he lived alone, was entirely destroyed by fire. Lyndonville firemen were called to the scene when Mrs. Paul Parsons, who resides near the Barry home, was awakened by the red glow caused by the flames.
The house in which Mr. Barry lived was the tenant house on the Leonard Oakes farm and located in the Alps rd. just outside the village limits. The fire had gained such headway and means of fighting the fire were restricted by lack of water so that the building was entirely consumed. Believing that Mr. BARRY must have been in the house when burned, a call was issued to the Orleans county sheriff’s office. Sheriff Carl Kleindinest together with Deputy Frank Mahar of Lyndonville directed a search of the ruins and the charred and burned body was discovered by members of the Lyndonville Fire Department in the basement of the burned building. It was surrounded by what was left of a bed and it is assumed that he must have been asleep at the time the fire occurred. It is thought that Mr. Barry may have been smoking in bed and fallen asleep with a lighted cigarette. He was seen in the village at about 10 p.m. and was known to have gone home at that time. A dog belonging to Mr. BARRY is believed to have perished in the flames also.
Coroner David Fraser of Lyndonville was called and had the body removed to the Smythe Funeral home. An inquest was conducted and the sheriff's office investigated. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard OAKES, nearest residents to the BARRY home, were in Troy Sunday where they had taken their eldest son, a student at RPI, to enter his college term. Another son, James Oakes was alone in the home at the time. Mrs. OAKES is a daughter of the deceased man. Mr. BARRY is a native of the Town of Yates. He was born June 6, 1883, and his parents were the late Newton J. and Flora SWAIN BARRY. He was a coal dealer in Lyndonville for many years. His wife, Mable Vaughan Barry, formerly of Springville, died in September 1935.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. PAKES of Lyndonville, and twin daughters, Mrs. Rufus CALDWELL of Lake Latonah, N. Y., and Miss Bernadine BARRY of Ocean Side, L. I.; two brothers, Mark P. and Stanley R. BARRY, both of Lyndonville, and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 2:30 p.m. from the Smythe Funeral home, with Rev. Raymond Draffin officiating. Burial in Lynhaven Cemetery.
Lyndonville - Funeral services for Frank S. BARRY, 65, who was fatally burned early yesterday morning when his home on Alps Road was destroyed by fire, will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Smythe Funeral Home. The Rev. Raymond Draffin of the Methodist Church will officiate, and burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery. Coroner David Fraser of Lyndonville has issued a certificate of accidental death. Mr. BARRY, a former coal dealer at Lyndonville for many years, was a member of the Methodist Church, and of Masonic Lodge 675 of Yates.

The funeral of Mrs. Richard BARRY took place from the home of her husband in Lyndonville this afternoon and was largely attended. The Rev. Mr. Melvin, of the Presbyterian church, and the Rev. Mr. Brusie, of the M. E. Church conducted the service. The burial was in the family plot at Lynhaven Cemetery.
Mrs. BARRY was born in Brockport fifty-six years ago, her name before her marriage being Miss Helen SMITH. She was a communicant of the Brockport Presbyterian Church and had a wide circle of friends both in that place and Lyndonville. She leaves a husband, and one sister, Mrs. HOLBROOK, of Appleton, Wis.

Lyndonville - Ivan H. BARRY, 51, of the Town of Yates, died in Medina Memorial Hospital Saturday where he had been a patient for a few days. He had been in failing health for the past 17 months. Born in the Town of Yates July 2, 1899, the son of Arthur and the late Lillian BARRY, he resided in this area his entire life. He was a carpenter by trade. He was active in the Yates Baptist Church of which he was a member.
Married to Pauline LEWIS September, 1925, she survives him together with four sons, Wesley, Stanton, Wayne and Ronald; and three daughters, Jacqualine, Janet and Kathy; his father, Arthur BARRY; three sisters, Mrs. Maurice GOLDSMITH, Mrs. Lester THEIL, and Mrs. Kenneth NEAL, and two brothers Floyd and Byron. All survivors reside in the Town of Yates except his brother Byron, of Phoenix, Arizona.
Friends may call at the Smythe Funeral Home where prayer service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m., followed by funeral service at the Yates Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Floyd A. Childs will officiate. Burial will be in Yates Center Cemetery.

Lyndonville - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Smythe Funeral Home here for Jay W. BARRY, 67, 181 Maple Avenue, whose death occurred yesterday morning in Meyer Memorial Hospital, Buffalo, where he had been a patient for five weeks. Services will be in charge of the Rev. Raymond H. Draffin of the Methodist Church and the Rev. Richard Billingsley of the Presbyterian Church. The following will officiate as bearers; David Crosby Sr., Walter Whipple, George Bidleman, Donald Bidleman, Leonard Bane and Irving Johnson and burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.
Mr. BARRY was born in the Town of Yates, December 12, 1885, the son of Howard and Helen DAY BARRY. His entire lifetime was spent in the town where he had engaged in farming the greater part of the time. On December 3, 1912 he was married to Ethel HAGEDORN and they became the parents of two daughters, Mrs. Clare ALLEN of this village and Mrs. Herman BURKETT of Rochester, who, with three grandchildren and a cousin, Mrs. Sadie PEARCE, Lyndonville, survive.
He served for six years as representative of the Town of Yates on the Orleans County Board of Supervisors. He served from 1925 to 1946 on the Lyndonville Board of Education and was president of the board from 1933 to 1946. For the past several years he has been treasurer of the Lyndonville Central School district. Mr. Barry was president of the Lyndonville Cemetery Association and was Farm Placement representative in the Albion Office of the Federal Department of Agriculture during World War II and was a Farm Instructor in the Veterans Education Program during that time. In fraternal circles he was a member of Yates Lodge of Masons and served as master of his lodge and for several years was worthy patron of Yates Chapter O.E.S. For the past year and a half he has been sub-clerk in the Lyndonvllle Post Office.

Mrs. Laura S. BARRY, within 17 days of her 100th birthday, died Sunday morning at her home in Carlton, where she had lived for 97 years. She is thought to be the oldest resident of Orleans County. She is survived by six children, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, one brother and one sister. The funeral was held Wednesday with burial in Kenyonville Cemetery.

Mrs. Frank S. BARRY, 57, died at her home on Garland street Monday, September 9, 1935, after a long illness of several years.
Mrs. Mabel VAUGHN BARRY was born in Springville, New York, on February 28, 1878. She received her education in Springville and Buffalo normal, and came to Lyndonville in 1901 where she was a teaher in the high school for six years. She married Frank S. BARRY on October 27, 1905. Mrs. BARRY was a member of the Baptist church in Springville. Her charming personality won for her a host of friends, who mourn her passing.
Surviving besides her husband are three daughters, Mrs. Leonard OAKES, and twin daughters, Bernedine and Ernestine, and a sister, Mrs. Charles TICKNOR of Mt. Kisco, and two grandsons, Barry and James OAKES.
The funeral was held at her late home on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. F. Mittlefehldt, officiating. Burial was in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Mark P. BARRY 91, of 186 N Main St., Lyndonville, died Monday at Orchard Manor Nursing Home. He was born in Lyndonville, May 17, 1885, the son of the late Newton J. and Flora SWAIN BARRY. He married Mabel C. WOOLSTON, June 10, 1908, and she died June 19, 1974. Mr. BARRY attended the University of Buffalo School of Pharmacy, and owned and operated a drug store in Lyndonville for many years until he sold it to Donald Fraser. He founded the Barry Lime and Sulphur Co., and sold controlling interest to E. I. Dupont Denemours Co. Inc., serving as resident manager until he retired in 1950.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Winifred BYERLY of Lyndonville; two grandchildren, Mrs. George (Mary) ANDERSON of Kendall and Edward N. BYERLY of E. Palestine, Ohio; six great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Mary BARRY, who died in 1932. Memorial services will be held Thursday at 8 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church, Lyndonville, with the Rev. Richard Billingsley officiating. M emorials may be made to the United Presbyterian Church of Lyndonville, or a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are being made by the Barnes-Tuttle Funeral Home.

Mrs. Martha BARRY of Knowlesville, N. Y., died April 20, 1896, at the residence of her daughter Louisa M. Barry.
Sister BARRY was born in Palmyra, Wayne County, N. Y., July 3, 1806. Thus, for nearly ninety years she had lived, being one of the few pioneers who are left in the vicinity. At an early age her father removed to a farm near Lyndonville, N. Y., where she spent her early years. In her sixteenth year she married Mr. James Barry and resided at Lyndonville till 1867, when they removed to Knowlesville, N. Y. She was the mother of twelve children, six of whom survive her.
She and her huband were active in the church. They joined the first class of the Methodist Episcopal church of Lyndonville, N. Y., formed by the Rev. James HALL in 1819. They paid very liberally toward the erection of the first and the second Methodist Episcopal edifices in Lyndonville, and also of the Methodist Episcopal church in the Knowlesville.
She had lived to see most of the great changes of the nineteenth century. Her life was full of toil and success. With an earnest, cheerful spirit, she met the great responsibilities of life.
The last fifteen years were spent in the quiet and rest of the Christian's hope - like the beautiful sunset, giving tokens of the coming day. She passed away without disease - a natural death. Her funeral was held in the Methodist Episcopal church, Lyndonville, April 22, 1896, the Rev. C. A. Woodworth preaching the sermon from Phil. 1:23.

Miss Mary A. BARRY, of Oil City, Penna., formerly of Medina, died at her home in that city last night, after an illness of only one week, of pneumonia. Her nephew, W. B. MURPHY, left for Oil City yesterday and the body will be brought here tonight and taken to the home of her sister, Mrs. D. D. MURPHY, on South Academy Street. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Miss Murphy (BARRY) was widely known and esteemed and was the first of the family of two brothers and four sisters to be summoned by the dread messenger. There are left, Edward J. Mrs. Mary E. BARRY, wife of Charles BARRY, died at her home on Park Avenue this morning. She had been ill but a little over a week, growing rapidly worse in spite of all that medical skill could accomplish until death occurred as above stated.
Mrs. BARRY was born (Mary E. GROAT) at Cranesvillage, this state, sixty-eight years ago, and was a great, great granddaughter of the first white man to locate in the Mohawk Valley in the vicinity of Amsterdam, and her family was prominently identified with the early history of that section. She came to Orleans County, with her mother, in the early seventies and had resided in or near Medina ever since.
Fifteen years ago she was united in marriage to Charles BARRY, who survives her, and they have since resided on Park Avenue in this village. Mrs. BARRY was a member of the Medina Presbyterian church, a devoted Christian woman of many benevolences, whose whole life had been devoted to kind and loving ministration to others.
Unemotional, not given to dissembling, characteristics which she inherited from her Dutch ancestry, but few knew the depths of her affection or her absolute devotion to duty and in the minutest detail to what she believed was right, save those who were nearest to her and had been the objects of her unselfish thought.
Beside her husband, himself in feeble health, she is survived by an aunt, Mrs. Debbie HORSFALL, of Schenectady, one sister, Mrs. Aaron B. HUNT, of this place, now ill in California, one brother, John GROAT, of Chico, California, and numerous nephews and nieces.
The funeral will take place from the house at 2:30 on Friday afternoon and burial will be in the family plot at Boxwood Cemetery.

Richard BARRY, a life long resident of this place passed away at his home on Main street, early Monday morning. Mr. BARRY had been in poor health for many months and Saturday suffered a stroke of paralysis which terminated in his death. The funeral was held Wednesday at one o'clock at the Methodist church, of which he was a faithful member many years. Burial in Lynhaven Cemetery. Mr. BARRY leaves a widow, two sons, Newton J., of this village and Allie, of Ransomville, also two sisters, Miss Abby and Miss Mariette, of this village and a brother Charles, of Kenuosha, Wis., Charles BARRY, of Kenuosha, Wis., was here to attend the funeral of his brother.

BARRY - Samuel BARRY, aged eighty-seven years, an old and well known resident of the town of Somerset, was stricken with apoplexy on Sunday morning last, resulting in his death yesterday morning. Deceased was a brother of Charles BARRY, of this place, and is survived by many other relatives residing in this vicinity.

LOCKPORT, June 2 - Wayne M. BARRY, 30, a native of Lyndonville, Orleans county, and a former Lockport resident, was shot fatally on the evening of May 23 while attempting to arrest a negro gunman in St. Petersburg, Fla., where he was employed as a city detective. The body will be taken to Lyndonville for burial, but the date of the services has not been set.
Mr. BARRY was known here where he was employed in the Harrison Radiator corporation plant before leaving for St. Petersburg a few years ago. He served in the 22d Infantry machine gun company during the World war and was stationed at Columbus barracks, in Ohio; Syracuse and Port Hamilton, Brooklyn. He was appointed to the St. Petersburg Police department on Sept. 15, 1925.
Thursday evening, May 23, Detective BARRY and two other detectives, Edward Patrick and J. Y. Rhodes, were out in search of a drunken negro who was reported to be showing a gun and threatening to kill any man who crossed him. Rhodes had entered the negro’s home, leaving Barry and Patrick outside when the latter two saw a negro running with his hand on his hip. Barry gave chase and grappled with the negro. He was shot twice, once through the arm and once through the heart. As he dropped dead, the other detectives fired three bullets into the negro, killing him. Later it was learned that the same negro had wounded fatally Herman Merrell, 80, pioneer citizen of St. Petersburg and dean of the Pineallas county bar, when surprised in the latter’s home.
Detective Barry leaves his wife and four children, June, Bobby, Wayne and Roger. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. CAREY, 189 South street, this city, are the parents of Mrs. BARRY, and Mrs. C. D VICKERS, 74 Waterman street, is her grandmother.

Mrs. H. (Homer) A. BARSTOW, formerly a resident of Medina, died on Sunday at the home of her son, Rev. Harry H. BARSTOW, of Caledonia, N. Y. Besides her son, she is survived by one daughter, Miss Clara BARSTOW. The remains were brought here Tuesday for interment in Boxwood Cemetery.

John G. BARTH, a well known resident of East Shelby, died Tuesday, December 24, after a brief illness of influenza, complicated by oedema of the lungs. He was 40 years of age and made his home in Webster for many years up to six years ago when he came to this place, having an apple evaporator at Knowlesville, N. Y. The remains were laid in the Millville Cemetery Thursday morning, December 26th, Rev. Hargrave officiating. Besides his wife (Rose), he leaves a mother, Mrs. Mary BARTH, and two brothers, Jacob and Frederick BARTH, of Webster, N. Y.

Clark BARTLETT, aged 86 years, died Saturday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Daniel WARNER, on the Lee street road, five miles southwest of Albion. He was born in Paris, Oneida County, and has lived in the town of Barre over fifty years.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. DEPEW and Miss Helen BATES of Medina, and Mrs. George A. SMITH of Albion; also two sisters, Mrs. Helen HILL of Buffalo and Mrs. Mary P. Mrs. Sarah BATES, 61, of Ridgeway died Saturday morning at the home of her sister, Mrs. Fred PETERS, south Main street, Middleport. The funeral was held Monday from the home of Mrs. PETERS with burial in West Ridgeway Cemetery.
Mrs. BATES was born in Scotland and has been a resident of this country for the past 40(?) years.

The death of George Frank BATT occurred at his home on William Street Sunday evening, after a few days illness, aged 76 years. Mr. BATT was born in Windson, England, came to this country and located in Medina forty years ago.
He is survived by his wife (Hannah WHEELER), a son, William G. BATT, one daughter, Miss Elizabeth BATT, and one sister, Miss Sue BATT of London, England.
The funeral will be held in St. John's Church, of which the deceased was a faithful member, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30. The Rev. David A. Pearson officiating. Burial at Boxwood Cemetery.

Albion - Walter E. BATT, 46, proprietor of the Carlton Grill, died Saturday evening, Oct. 14, at the Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was a member of the Albion Renovation Lodge F. and A.M. and of the Orleans Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, the Dye Hose Company and the Albion Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hasel REDMAN (?) BATT of Albion RFD; three daughters, Mrs. Gordon TOWNSEND, Mrs. LaVern BELSON and Miss Marilyn BATT, all of Albion RFD; two sons, Wilford E. BATT of Waterport & Robert E. BATT of Albion RFD; two brothers Clayton BATT of Florida and Fred BATT of Albion RFD; a sister, Mrs. Pearl HAZELBAKER of Albion and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Merrill Funeral Home at 134 East State Street where Elks services will be held at 8 p.m. tomorrow. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Mrs. Dorothy BAYNE, 39, died at her home on Marshall Road, at 4 o’clock Saturday morning, Dec. 12, after an illness of several months. Born on July 9, 1914, in the Town of Ridgeway, she was the daughter of Herbert and Mabel GRACEY.
On April 22, 1939, she was married to Leo BAYNE. Surviving are her husband, one son, Gary, her father, and several uncles and aunts.
Mrs. BAYNE was a member of the Presbyterian Church and had served as president of the Presbyterian Guild and of the Standby Class. Funeral services were held this afternoon in the Smythe Funeral Home at 2 o’clock in charge of the Rev. Richard Billingsley. Burial was in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Mrs. Homer C. BAYNE passed away at the Highland hospital, Rochester, at 2:30 a. m., Monday, February 18. She was born April 4, 1900, and was united in marriage to Homer C. BAYNE on June 29, 1921. She was a member of the Presbyterian church. Surviving besides her husband are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph ZANOW, and two sisters, Esther GRIMES and Margaret ZANOW of Buffalo, and one brother, Norman, of this place.
The funeral was held at her late home on the Marshall road Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. Herbert H. Brown of Hadley, Pa., officiating. Interment was in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Franklin E. BAYNE, 88, died Saturday afternoon in Rochester following an illness of several weeks. Mr. BAYNE had been a Medina resident for 48 years and resided for many of those years on State St. More recently he had been living with his daughter, Mrs. Clair WATERSON on Roseland Ave. He was a mason and contractor for many years, and had been in the employ of the H. J. Heinz Co. for a period of 28 years. He was a member of the Orleans Lodge 217, I.O.O.F., in Medina.
Survivors include his wife, Belle; a daughter, Mrs. WATERSON; a son, Thurman BAYNE of Medina; a brother, Bushrod BAYNE of Buffalo; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Barnes-Tuttle Funeral Home, Pearl St., where services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30, conducted by the Rev. Edward Simpson of First Presbyterian Church.

Lyndonville - Funeral services for Leon A. BAYNE, 79, who passed away suddenly early Wednesday morning, April 12, will be held from his late home on North Main Street, Saturday, April 15th. Born in the Town of Yates, May 8, 1870, the son of Trivot and Maria COX BAYNE, the deceased had resided in this vicinity all his life, and had engaged in active farming until about three years ago.
He married Miss Olive BACON of Medina, December 3, 1913, and she survives him together with a daughter, Mrs. James LOADES of the Ridge Road; two grandchildren, Gerald and Marcia LOADES; and two brothers, William and Charles BAYNE, both of Hastings, Michigan, also a large number of nieces and nephews.
Interment in Lynhaven Cemetery

Mrs. Maria BAYNE died very suddenly last Saturday morning at her home on Eagle street. Mrs. Bayne was born in New York city, November 9, 1847, and when two years old, her parents, Thomas and Fannie CX, moved to Medina, where she resided until her marriage to the late Trivot BAYNE, November 3, 1866. They settled in the town of Yates and she has spent the remaining years of her life in this village. She was a well known resident; a member of the Methodist church.
The surviving relatives are two daughters, Mrs. Violet KLINO of Niagara Falls, and Mrs. Flossie BANE at home; four sons, Charles, of Hastings, Mich., William of Lockport, and Rollin and Leon of Lyndonville; two sisters, Mrs. Angie CHRISTOPHERSON and Miss Susan COX of Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, Charles COX of Albion and William COX of Lockport, also thirteen grandchildren.
The funeral service was held at the home Tuesday afternoon, Rev. G. C. Bucher of Oakfleld, officiating. Burial was in the family plot in Lynhaven Cemetery.

LYNDONVILLE - Mrs. Mary A. BAYNE, 82, died Thursday afternoon in Medina Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient a few hours. She had been in poor health for several years, but critically ill since Monday.
Born Dec. 3, 1873 in the Town of Ridgeway, she was the daughter of Henry and Eliza BEAVER. In her youth she had taught school before her marriage to Rollin T. BAYNE in 1892. His death occurred in 1943. Mr. and Mrs. BAYNE had owned and resided on the farm on Petrie Road in the Town of Yates since 1907. Mrs. BAYNE was a member of the Lyndonville Presbyterian Church and of the Worthwhile Class of that Church’s Sunday School. She was a member in good standing and a Past Noble Grand of Lyndonia Rebekah Lodge.
Surviving are two sons, Homer and Leo, and one daughter, Mildred all of Lyndonville; also three grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Nellie GRIMES, Ashwood. Funeral services will be held in the Smythe Funeral Home Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock with the pastor of the Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Richard Billingsley officiating. Burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary BAYNE, 82 Expired Thursday in Daughter's Home
Lyndonville - Mrs. Mary Alice FRISBEE BAYNE, 82, wife of John BAYNE, died last evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter BRADSHAW. Mrs. BAYNE was born in the Town of Gaines, on October 7, 1857. For many years they resided on a farm on the Lake Shore Road, Town of Yates, later moved to Yates Center. Five years ago Mr. & Mrs. BAYNE gave up their home and have lived with their children since that time.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Glen CLARKE of Waterport, Mrs. Charles THIEL of Barker and Mrs. BRADSHAW; two sons, Robert and Edward BAYNE of Lyndonville; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Lyndonville Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be held at the home of Mrs. BRADSHAW, Roosevelt Highway, on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. S.D. Cummings of Oakfield will officiate, assisted by Rev. H.A. Depfer. Burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Middleport - Oscar B. BAYNE, 68, of 20 North Hartland St. died this morning in the Medina Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for one week. Born in Medina, Mr. BAYNE resided in this vicinity his entire lifetime. An active member of the Trinity Episcopal Church of Middleport he was vestryman of the church for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Rosamond; one daughter, Mrs. LeRoy BOUCHARD of Alperia, Mich., and one sister, Mrs. Mary G. McMAMES, of San Diego, Calif. Friends may call at the Wallace and Heath Funeral Home where the body is resting. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Trinity Episcopal Church, with the Rev. John S. Cary officiating. Burial will be in Hartland Central Cemetery.

Lyndonville - Robert Bane (BAYNE), an old resident of this town, died very suddenly Saturday forenoon from heart disease. He ate his breakfast as usual, and saying he felt sleepy, lay down and went to sleep. Some time later his wife went to see if he was still sleeping and found him dead. A wife (Fannie COOPER) and three daughters survive him - Mrs. Fred (Iona) FISHER, Mrs. William (Olive) Breeze, of this town, and Miss Ida who is at home. The funeral was held Tuesday at one o’clock from the house, and the remains were laid at rest in Lynhaven Cemetery.
