YATES: Mrs. Adelia DANIELS, aged 35 years and two months, died at her home on Wednesday, of consumption. She had been in poor health for a long time and her life for the past few years had been one constant struggle with disease. When about two months ago her husband died, the blow was too much for her feeble strength, and she failed rapidly since. It was decided that a change of climate would do her good, and she went to Virginia for a short time; but she was beyond aid, and returned about two weeks ago only to die. The funeral, which was held on Saturday, was largely attended, Rev. L. C. Davis officiating, assisted by Rev. Loren Stiles. The bearers and the singers were those who had officiated at the funeral of her husband, just ten weeks before. The circumstances are especially sad and the sympathy of a large circle of friends is extended to the mourning family. The Christian Endevour Society, of which the deceased was a member, has adopted suitable resolutions on her death. The parents of Mr. DANIELS and his brother, Elton and wife, of Lockport, and his sister, Mrs. PIERCE, of Ripley, attended the funeral.

Newspaper: The Medina Tribune; 31 Jul 1873 Seldom has a more melancholy event transpired in our village than that of the death of
Florence, the well beloved daughter of J. C. DAVIS, Esq., of this village. Her malady was
disease of the heart, and her sickness has been long and painful, to which she submitted
with the utmost Christian _________.
Despite the efforts of the best medical skill and the most careful and unwearied attention
of very dear relatives and friends, her disease baffled skill and love; gradually her health
and strength failed, until it became painfully evident that there was no possible chance
for relief, and at six o'clock last evening her gentle spirit passed away to the God who
gave it.
The deceased was a most estimable young lady, greatly beloved by all who knew her.
Virtue never found a fairer temple, beauty shone upon her the light of every eye, and the
charm of every heart. She moved along in cloudless chastity, cheered by the song of
love. She was adorned with all that earth or heaven could bestow to make her good and
amiable. Nature gifted her with a high order of character and her Christian graces and
rare virtues and accomplishments endeared her to the hearts of every one who enjoyed
her acquaintance and the simple delights of her social companionship.
Just in the flush of her young womanhood, and always engaged in some good work, an
ornament to society, and the pride of her household, she has passed, like an angel of
goodness, from our sight. Truth fully may it be written:
“None knew her, but to love her.”
Her death is not only a severe affliction to her stricken parents, sister and relatives, but
all the village mourns the death of one so pure and good.
The Baptist Society of this village, of which church the deceased has long been a faithful
member, contributing not only her magnificent voice to its choir, her gentle deportment
to its precepts, but also her most willing and untiring exertions in the fullest
advancement of all its interests, will greatly miss the pure and noble qualities of
Florence Davis. Difficult indeed, will be the task of her endeared congregation to supply
the place she filled so willingly and so well.
To the bereaved parents and loving relatives, the unmeasured sympathy of all those far
and near to this vicinity, is given, and could the host of sorrowful friends assuage the
grief of the sorely afflicted parents, how ready and willing would be the influences to
accomplish it.

Newspaper: The Medina Tribune The sad intelligence was received in town yesterday morning of the death of Mr. Joseph
C. DAVIS, of this place, by drowning while bathing on Tuesday morning on the beach on
Staten Island, N.Y. The particulars given are briefly as follows: As is quite generally
known, Mr. DAVIS has been in poor health during the past few months and it was thought
that a visit to the seashore would be likely to benefit him. Accordingly he decided to
abide by the decision of his friends, and, accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. J. (O?).
FOLEY, he left town about six weeks ago for Asbury Park, N. J. Five weeks stay proved very
beneficial, Mr. Davis enjoying exceedingly the baths in the surf, which he took daily, and
was greatly invigorated by the sea air.
On Wednesday last it was decided to go to New Brighton, S.I., where it had been the
custom of Mr. and Mrs. FOLEY to spend the summer, and remain for a week before returning
to Medina. Mr. DAVIS longed for the salt water baths, which he did not have so favorable
an opportunity to take as when at Asbury Park, and anxiously awaited a chance to go into
the surf once more before leaving for home. Having visited Gebhardt's Beach at Clifton, S.
I., (situated about three or four miles from the Belmont House where he was stopping) and
where there is a fine beach and good accommodations for bathing, he decided to go there on
the fatal morning for a parting plunge into the invigorating water. Mrs. FOLEY almost
invariably accompanied her father, but was unable to do so on this morning and was
reluctant to consent to his going alone as he had on some other occasions.
Taking the rapid transit train about ten o'clock, Mr. DAVIS was soon at the beach and,
donning a bathing suit, joining the company he had found in the surf. Soon after he was
noticed by some one to fall and sink into the water, which was not more than three feet in
depth at that point. Assistance was speedily rendered, but too late to be of service, as
life was found to be extinct. Reports differ as to be the cause of his prostration, some
attributing it to cramps, but Mr. FOLEY informs us that the information he had received
leads him to believe it was a heart trouble. Mr. DAVIS being a stranger to all on the
beach, it was several hours before his name and stopping place were ascertained by the
means of cards in his pockets.
Meanwhile Mrs. FOLEY was kept in unhappy suspense at the detention of her father, when
about four o'clock the dreadful news came by telegraph. Mr. FOLEY soon after arrived from
New York, who, after some difficulty, found the remains in charge of a coroner and made
preparations to come to Medina.
The remains, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. FOLEY and Mr. W. W. GATES who was visiting his
sister, Mrs. D. SHERWOOD, who resides but a few miles from New Brighton, arrived in town
on the 11:25 train last night and were taken in charge by undertaker Holdredge. The
funeral services will be held at the late residence of the deceased, on Park Avenue, on
Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
Joseph C. DAVIS, whose death it becomes our melancholy duty to
record under such sad circumstances, was born in Middlebury, Vt., December 4th 1816, and
was therefore in the seventy-first year of age. He removed to the town of Ridgeway with
his father, the late Joseph Davis, in the year 1820, and, excepting a few years' absence
in the southwest, has resided here ever since. His occupation was that of a farmer until
his retirement to this vil¬lage some eighteen years since. For several years past he has
been somewhat active in business as a member of the firm of Zimmerman & Davis, real estate
and Insurance agents.
Mr. DAVIS was one of Medina's most reliable and substantial residents — a man whose
advice and counsel was ever sought in matters affecting the prosperity and welfare of our
village and one whose name was a synonym for probity and integrity. Mr. DAVIS was withal a
christian gentleman, his assoc- iation being with the Baptist Church, where his presence
and benign influence will be missed, as it will also be by the entire community where he
was universally respected.
Besides his wife and daughter, (wife of James C. FOLEY, Esq., of New York City) four
brothers and four sisters survive him, viz: Maynard DAVIS, of Chicago, Ills.; Henry DAVIS,
of Cheboygan, Mich., Paul and Simeon DAVIS, of Medina; Mrs. A. B. ARNOLD, of Geneva Lake,
Wis.; Mrs. S. V. REUBENS, of Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. John LeVALLEY, of Medina, and Mrs.
Alvarado BROWN, of Leadville, Col. Mr. DAVIS' death is the first that has occurred to
break the family circle whose ages now range from fifty five to seventy seven years.
Funeral notice in The Medina Tribune, 1 Sept. 1887
The funeral of Joseph C. DAVIS was largely attended, at the residence on Park Avenue,
on Saturday afternoon, Revs. F. G. McKeever and E. P. Gardner officiating. The burial took

Newspaper: The Medina Tribune; Thurs., 10 June 1915 It was with a feeling of profound sorrow that our citizens learned of the sudden and
untimely death, at 11:45 on Saturday morning, of Walter E. DIBBLE, manager of the Orleans
Preserving and Canning Company, at his home on Elizabeth street after an illness of only
four days with pneumonia, in the 57th year of his age. Mr. DIBBLE was one of the best
known canning factory men in New York State, his experience in this particular line
extending over a period of nearly forty years, and his loss to the canning industry in
this vicinity will be hard to estimate. Mr. Dibble's genial nature and kindly disposition
made him hosts of friends who will greatly regret his untimely death.
Walter E. DIBBLE was born in Camden, N. Y., on November 12, 1858. At the age of about
twenty he moved to Oneida Community where he entered the canning industry and remained
there 25 years. In 1903 he moved to Albion and managed the Burt Olney Canning Factory for
three years. From there he went to Holley as manager of the Hudson Company factory where
he remained until coming to Medina to manage the Medina Canning Company in 1908, a
position he very acceptably filled up to 1912, when he resigned to accept the management
of the Orleans Preserving and Canning Company, a new concern, in which he was financially
interested, and which has rapidly come to the front under his hustling supervision.
He is survived by his widow (Carrie), one son, George, and three brothers, William,
Charles and George, all of Morris, Ill. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock
from his late home, Rev. Frank J. Milman, officiating. Members of the Masonic and Elk
fraternities attended in a body. On Tuesday morning at 6:55 the remains were taken to
Oneida for interment in the family plot.
