Newspaper: Medina Daily Journal, April 29, 1946
Surnames: IVES, BRAME, LINFITT, PICKERT

William J. IVES, 79, retired rural carrier, died yesterday at his North Gravel Road home as a result of self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Mr. IVES, who had recently recovered from an illness of pneumonia, was apparently suffering from melancholia. His lifeless body was discovered by a neighbor, Harry WHEELER, who had gone to investigate his failure to return to the home of his son, Clayton IVES, Roseland Avenue, where the deceased had resided for the past few weeks. Mr. IVES left his son's home Sunday morning to go to his own home, and when he did not return, nor answer the telephone, the son called neighbors.

He had been dead for several hours when discovered, according to State Police of the Gaines Substation, who investigated. A verdict of death by suicide has been issued by Dr. John ELLIS of Albion, Orleans County coroner.

Born in West Barre, Mr. IVES had been a resident of this vicinity his entire lifetime, and was a rural mail carrier out of the Medina Post Office, from which he retired several years ago. His wife, Katherine (Pickert) IVES, died approximately one year ago.

Surviving are one son Clayton J. IVES of Medina; two daughters, Mrs. William K. BRAME of New York City, and Mrs. Charles A. LINFITT of Cleveland, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
