SAD DROWNING ACCIDENT.
Rev. and Mrs. Robert L. MACFARLANE have the sincere sympathy of the people of our
entire community in the time of their sad affliction under most distressing
circumstances.
Monday afternoon their son, Cleveland, aged about four years, was missing. Inquiry revealed the fact that the little fellow was last seen by his playmates about four o’clock on the bank of the race which crosses Church street a few rods south of the rectory. A large number of sympathizing friends and neighbors rallied and became enlisted in a search, which was unsuccessfully continued all night. After daylight, however, the lifeless body was found in the wheel pit near the old Bidwell plant, where it is supposed to have floated after he had fallen in the water.
The deceased was a namesake of the late Bishop Cleveland Coxe. Funeral services were held this afternoon at three o'clock at St. John's Church, Rev. G. C. Mackenzie, of Brantford, Ont., officiating, assisted by Rev. H. S. Gatley, of Middleport.

Died - In this village, on Monday morning, of Typhoid Fever, Cora Amelia, daughter of Horatio W. and Antoinette Magowan, aged 5 years and eight months.
Mourn not Cora, she is gone
To realms of light and love,
A Saviour kindly took her home
To dwell with him above.
The little lamb is safely o’er
That mountain dread and drear,
And you may safely tread the path
And have no cause for fear.
The path is not so difficult
That little Cora trod,
Then only think it terminates
In the dwelling place of God.
Ah well the little shepherdess
Knew the flock would come,
When they saw the lamb deposited
In so secure a home.
And through she ne’er can come to you
You both can go to her,
Our father’s willing to receive
And will not e’en demur.
Then raise your heads and smiling think
Your Cora rests in Heaven,
And of a Saviour’s love partakes
That boon to sinners given.

Approximately two weeks after returning to active duty, having recovered from wounds previously received in action, Pfc. Edward T. MAJESKI, 23, was killed in action on Negros Island on April 13th, according to a telegram from the War Department received this morning by Mrs. Henry LENIHAN, 412 State Street. Pfc. Majeski was wounded on Feb. 7 while participating in the battle of Luzon, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, and was hospitalized in a base hospital in the South Pacific. When he returned to duty he was assigned a member of Company K, 160th Infantry.

He served the entire time with Company F, until early in April, whe he returned to service and was transferred to K Company. In writing of his wounds received at Luzon, to Mrs. Lenihan, Pfc. MAJESKI stated: 'Before I was wounded I accounted for six dead Japs and two probables, so this compensates me somewhat for the wound I received from them'.
Born in Medina, he and his brother, Seaman first class Raymond MAJESKI, USNR, had made their homes with Mr. and Mrs. Henry LENIHAN for the past fifteen years. Pfc. MAJESKI left Medina High School in 1940, in his Senior year, to go with Company F.

MALLETT - In Lyndonville, Saturday afternoon, Sept. 1, 1923, at the home of her son, Watson G. MALLETT, Mrs. Maggie A. MALLETT, in the 83rd year of her age. The funeral service was held at the house Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, the Rev. Herbert H. Brown officiating, assisted by the Rev. John G. Wirth, Sr. Interment was in Lynhaven Cemetery.
The death of Mrs. Maggie A. MALLETT, better known to most of our towns-people as Aunt Maggie, marks the passing of a generation of one of the first families of this vicinity; and removes from us a rare personality greatly beloved by all who knew her. Though confined to her home for many years by her infirmity, her general good health was maintained until last Thursday, when her strength began to fail. Friday morning she was unable to rise from her bed and her life slowly ebbed away.
She was born in the town of Yates, Sept. 8, 1840, the sixth child born to the late Walter GRAY and Eliza CALVERT, his wife. On Nov. 16, 1861, she was married to the late John MALLETT. She was received into the Christian fellowship of the Presbyterian Church of Lydonville Feb. 23, 1877. Her only son, Mr. Watson MALLETT, and a large number of relatives survive her.

Carlton Station. On February 6, 1897, Mrs. Louise L. MANN fell asleep in Jesus. She was born in Albion August 9, 1856. When at the age of seven she, with her parents, moved to this place, so with the exception of a few years her life has been spent in this neighborhood. She was married in 1875 to Fred MANN. Although a great sufferer through her long and trying illness she bore it all with Christian meekness and resignation, and only a few days before her death, when she could scarcely speak, she said "I am almost home."
She leaves two children, Clayton W. and Annabel L., who with her husband deeply mourn her loss. Her husband will miss a devoted wife, her children a tender patient mother and wise counselor. The welfare of her family was ever her study, to lead them in the paths of sobriety and truth. But her little daughter was ever the burden of her prayers, that she might be given strength to endure the trials to come. Her son she knew had other ties, wife and baby, and the blow would not perhaps fall on him quite so heavily. She also leaves four brothers and a sister to mourn her loss - Henry and Silas of Albion, Albert and John STOCKTON of Carlton and Mrs. Nettie HORNER of Waterport, but they sorrow not as those without hope, for they feel that she is now at rest.
She was converted under and baptized by Rev. F.E. King and had since lived a consistent Christian life. She was ever grateful to the many friends who cheered her with letters of sympathy and deeds of loving kindness, and often during her sickness she would say, "Oh! every one is so kind to me." Rev. F.E. King and Rev. P.P. Sowers officiated the funeral.

Died, on Monday night, Nov. 19, 1888, at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. A. K. SMITH, at Jeddo, N. Y., Mr. Lewis MARSHALL, aged eighty-two years. An esteemed and respected citizen, an affectionately cherished father, and a known and honored christian man is gone.
Lewis MARSHALL was born in Dutchess county, in the state of New York, on March 5, 1806. On Oct. 11, 1826, he was united in marriage with S. (Sarah) A. ANGEVINE, daughter of Col. Eli ANGEVINE, a well known and honored citizen of Ridgeway, and an esteemed official member of the Presbyterian church of Medina. Two years later Mr. and Mrs. MARSHALL removed to Palmyra, N. Y., and after a residence of four years at that place the young couple came to Medina and took up their residence on the farm now occupied by one of their sons, and so long associated with the family name. Here the active period of their life was spent. At the time of their coming, but ten acres of the farm had been reclaimed from its native wooded condition. As all are familiar with those pioneer days will well remember, the clearing and cultivating of 130 acres of land, involved no small amount of hardship and of toil. And yet, with faith in God and glad consercration to duty, he and his young wife gave themselves to the work of earning a home, and making provision for the family which was given to them. In later years Mr. Marshall often referred to those days as the happiest period of his life. Here were born to them all but one of their four sons and two daughters; and here, under tender parental watch-care, they grew to manhood and womanhood of such individual worth and character that they greatly comforted their aged father in his declining years.
In 1834 Mr. and Mrs. MARSHALL united with the Presbyterian Church of Medina, in whose fellowship they renamed until their death, Mr. MARSHALL’s membership reaching to the remarkable period of fifty-four years. As a man of christian character and integrity his influence was recognized and felt. With him religion was a matter of every day living, whose principles ruled his heart and guided his life, and his children and grandchildren will long cherish, amid their fondest recollections of him, his beautiful christian old age.
Thank God, none of His servants outlive their usefulness; nor was this aged saint an exception. His thought and conversation were those of the pilgrim who recognizes that earth is not his home, and who longs, when God shall will, to be in the better land. In the last two or three years of his life, so confident was his faith, and so exceeding his anticipation, that he could scarcely wait his appointed season. But at length the days of waiting were over, the long looked for hour was come, and the night of earth dawned into the morning of eternity. In an hour unexpected, the vision immortal opened to him, and with faith lost in sight and prayer transfigured to praise, the anticipations of years were suddenly realized.
One of the most precious treasures left behind him is the family bible. Over its pages he had pondered its living truths for fifty-nine years, as shown by the date of its purchase. From it were read as scripture lessons at his funeral, the 116 Psalm, a part of the fifth chapter of the Second Epistle to the Corinthians, and portions of the description of the new Jerusalem, as found in the 21st and 22nd chapters of Revelation. The text was from the 116th Psalm and the 15th verse: "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." At the close of the services his four sons and two of his grandsons, with beautiful and fitting appropiations, acted as bearers, and gently laid his beloved form in its last earthly resting place. There the father and mother of many precious recollections rest until the changes of the Rsurrection morn. Words are but feeble things, but long lives lived for God are testimonials not to be measured.
The death of Lewis MARSHALL, of Jeddo, occurred on Monday night, aged eighty two years. Deceased was an old resident of this vicinity and was highly esteemed by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. He was father of Edward and John MARSHALL, of this place. Funeral (can’t read, but very likely reads: “services were held from the”) residence today and the remains interred in the Barrett cemetery. (West Ridgeway Cemetery)

The news of the death of the Rev. Eugene MARTIN, at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Michael MARTIN, at Buffalo, Sunday morning of pneumonia, came as a great shock to our citizens and to his parishioners of St. Mary’s church where he was assistant to the Rev. Father MARTIN came to Medina from the Church of the Annunciation at Buffalo less than a year ago, and was succeeded in that parish by Rev. James Ferger, of Medina. During his pastorate here in Medina, Father Martin made everyone with whom he came into contact his friend. preceded by prayer services at 8:30 in the Cleary Funeral Home, Park Avenue,
where the body is resting, for 9-year-old Marian MARTINO who was killed almost
instantly Saturday afternoon when she was struck by an automobile. Burial will be
in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sandy MARTINO, Telegraph Road, a mile and a half east of Medina, she was struck while crossing the road from her home to that of her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Anthony MARTINO who live opposite. State Police report that the child was hit by a car driven by Mrs. Doris W. SCHUNER, 30 of East Town Line Road, Route 2, Medina.
Cpl. John SAGE of the Gaines Substation of the State Police reported that Mrs. SCHUNER stated she had seen the child running in the driveway of her home and slowed her vehicle down. She resumed speed, however, when the MARTINO girl stopped running. Apparently failing to notice the car she darted out onto the highway and in front of the SCHUNER car.
She was taken to Medina Memorial Hospital in the municipal ambulance but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Dr. Kenneth CLARK, coroner, has issued a certificate of accidental death. The accident victim was born November 9, 1944 and she was enrolled in the 3rd grade at St. Mary’s School.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, there are surviving two brothers, Anthony and Russell, and a sister, Carolyn.
