The Town of Oak Orchard was formed from the Town of Gaines & Ridgeway in 1822. It was renamed Carlton in 1825. It is located in the northern central part of Orleans County on Lake Ontario. It is 9-3/4 miles across from east to west and 4-1/2 miles across from north to south. The first settlers were William & James Walsworth who came from Canada. There are 8 hamlets in the Town of Carlton; Carlton Station, Kent, Kenyonville, Kuckville, Oak Orchard-On-the-Lake, Point Breeze, The Bridges and Waterport.
