The residents of Albion were terribly shocked on Sunday to hear of the sudden death of the Rev. G. F. CAIN, the beloved pastor of the Presbyterian Church. He went into the pulpit in his usual health, and had proceeded through about half of the sermon, the text of which was from Kings, ii., 5,12, when he paused, and without warning fell to the floor. Members of the congregation immediately rushed to him and he was carried out into the vestibule and medical aid summoned. He never regained consciousness, and expired in about ten minutes. Heart disease was the cause of his death, his father having died in much the same manner. Deceased was 59 years of age and was installed pastor of the Baptist Church of Albion in March, 1883.

Orleans County's Oldest Resident Dies Friday
Last surviving 'wearer of the Blue' in this section, and oldest resident of the county, Robert Canham died Friday morning in his 101st year. He had been living with a son, George Canham, in Childs. A fall the previous week precipitated an illness that resulted in death.
Noted for his erect, soldierly carriage, Mr. Canham had been a familiar sight to Albion villagers for years. He had made periodic trips to a barbershop that always ended in a chat with 'the boys' at a local hotel. This veteran of the battles of Gettysburg, Cold Harbor, Malvern Hill and Fredericksburg had remained active to the end. Short walks at his farm home and attentive listening to radio programs formed part of Mr. Canham's daily regime.
Brought as a child to live on a farm near Knowlesville by his parents, Joseph (should be James) and Elizabeth Spooner Canham, from Chatfield (should be Catfield), England, where he had been born Dec. 17, 1837, Robert Canham had claimed residence in Orleans County since his boyhood.
One of the first Civil War volunteers from this section, he enlisted in the 3rd Regiment, U.S. Artillery, in 1861 and at the completion of a three-year term reenlisted in the 90th Batallion, New York State Volunteers. An honorable discharge marked the end of his service on June 3, 1865. Then for a time the soldier turned farmer and at a later period he was a rural mail carrier for several years. Since 1930 the home of George Canham has harbored his aging parent.
He leaves another son, Robert Canham, in Cleveland, O; one daughter, Mrs. William Perfitt, Barre, 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon in McNall's funeral home. Burial took place at Mt. Albion Cemetery.

The funeral of John CAPLIS, aged 67 years, took place from St. Mary's church Tuesday morning, July 26th and was very largely attended by his relatives and a host of friends. Mr. CAPLIS fell a victim to that dread enemy, Bright's disease, from which he has been an intense but patient sufferer for several years. His death, nevertheless, was somewhat sudden and unexpected. Mr. CAPLIS left a wife and four children. Of the children, John, Edmund and Mary reside in Dakota, and a daughter, Ella, resides at home. Edmond and Mary, wife of Mr. John KENNEDY, of Fargo, D. His death, which occurred on Saturday evening, July 23d, has removed a familiar and genial countenance. Every one who knew him esteemed him as a friend, and his friendship was open and sincere. He was naturally of a social temperament and his society was a pleasure.
While Mr. CAPLIS was a sincere Catholic, he had a broad, liberal mind, and was esteemed by Catholics and Protestants alike. He was very desirous that his children should have the advantage of as good an education as he could, by ___ ____ _______ (can’t read) _____ ______ and they will cherish the remembrance of his efforts in their behalf. A kind father, genial friend and neighbor is gone; and his loss will be widely and deeply felt.

First Horseback Ride Brings Sudden Death To Edna CARPENTER
The first horseback ride little Edna CARPENTER had taken through the country near her home on Horan Road ended in her death yesterday afternoon when she fell from the back of 'Kit', the gentle bay horse of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis CARPENTER.
Edna, who was 11 years old and Ella May Southcott, 12, were riding together on Kit’s broad back about 4 o'clock with the group of playmates who today are grieving at the loss of their little companion. They were bumping along the Portage Road a half mile from home, when Herman Iorio rode by, cracking the reins against his horse’s neck. Kit was aroused by the crack in the cold, sunny air of the afternoon and stepped to the side with a motion that tumbled Edna and Ella May to the ground. Kit's massive hoof struck Edna’s head. She was carried dead to the home of Mrs. Albert Hagerman nearby.
Ella May arrived at the CARPENTER house yesterday noon before Edna had returned from Sunday School. 'I’m going horseback riding,' Edna shouted when she came into the house and found Ella May ready for the trip they had teased and planned for all week. When they left the Carpenter home, there were five horses and six children, Edna and Ella May both being mounted on Kit. The group made several stops during the afternoon and was joined by two other children of the neighborhood until it included Edna, Elwin, her brother, Ella May, Harold and Herman Southcott, Herman Iorio, Walter Webster, Jr., and a girl known as Jennie.
Mr. Carpenter had warned the two girls to take their time and let the boys go ahead. He said that Edna had teased all week to ride Sunday afternoon with Ella May on the slow and gentle Kit, whom she had previously ridden only about the CARPENTER yard.
Thee funeral will be from the CARPENTER home on Horan Road, where the little body was removed after the autopsy at the Hagaman(sic) home, tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. Rev. A. S. Lowrie will officiate and burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery. Edna leaves to mourn their loss her parents, two brothers, Norman and Elwin, and two sisters, Edith and Jessie, all at home.

Police authorities at midnight last night recovered the body of Gabriel CARREO, 25, of Holley, part owner of the Holley Auto Parts Company, from the Barge Canal between Holley and Brockport. He was drowned when the truck he was driving left the road and plunged into the water. The Holley man had been reported as missing since Sunday.
Search for the body began yesterday when an oil tanker on the canal reported to Brockport Police Chief James Castigan, that churning through the canal his boat ‘kicked up” a tire and seat cushing.
