Exhaust Fumes Fatal to Grocer
Stanley KACZMARCZYK, aged 33 years, proprietor of a grocy store on Gulf street, was asphyxiated
by fumes from the exhaust of his auto in his garage early Sunday morning.

In the morning upon failing to find her husband Mrs. KACZMARCZYK went to the garage where she found his body. He leaves his wife and three small children, his parents in Poland and one brother, Walter, of Medina. The funeral was held from the Sacred Heart Church Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

County Line - Death has once more entered our home and snatched suddenly away the beloved wife of the writer. It becomes our painful duty to report the passing away, without five minutes warning, of Mrs. KEELER, in the sixty-third year of her age, with heart difficulty, at her late home near County Line, on the 25th of October.
Mrs. Martha H. KEELER was the amiable and faithful wife of Coleman R. KEELER and the daughter of Mrs. CROSBY. Her early life was spent in Wayne County, but she had been a resident of County Line for thirty-five years. A large circle of friends, beside her surviving companion will miss her, as she was of a kind and cheerful disposition. A sister in Wayne county and another in Michigan survive her.
The funeral rites were observed at the M.E. Church at County Line, Rev. Mr. SHARP officiating. The interment was in County Line cemetery, near the remains of her former husband, William CORRIGAL, whose death occurred eighteen years ago. We feel very grateful to those who so kindly assisted in the hour of affliction.

Died. In this village, Jan. 18, Jeanet(?) R.(?), daughter of William and Julia A. KENNEDY, aged 2 years and 4 months.
LITTLE NETTIE
She sleeps the long, last sleep of death,
We cannot wake her now;
Pale flowers are in her tiny hand,
and rose-buds round her brow.
And must these beauteous buds decay,
Together in the tomb
They wither, fade, and waste away,
Before their earliest bloom.
Though on her grave sera leaves are seen,
('She perished with the flowers,')
Her memory will be overgreen,
In these home hearts of ours.
We know that early she must die,
So heavenly was her smile;
So sweetly pensive was her eye,
We wondered all the while.
That anything so pure, so bright,
Could stay with us so long
So meet for that blast world of light,
And for an angel’s song.
The Savior’s arms are round her now,
Above the starry sky,
And in that blissful paradise
Such flow’rets never die.

Youths 24 And 26 Die In Circling Home At Corfu
CAA Investigating, Say Plane May Have Hit Wires
The crash of a light airplane shortly after 3:30 yesterday afternoon in a pasture lot near Corfu claimed the life of a young Medina man, the pilot, and that of his flying companion and fellow worker, a resident of that Genesee County village. The dead men are Robert L. KERR, 24, of 318 West Avenue, Medina, pilot, and Robert L. SMITH, 26, of Genesee Street, Corfu.
According to witnesses the plane crashed when it was flying low over the home of Smith’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert J. SMITH, who reside on Ganson Avenue, Corfu. Young KERR, an employee of the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. store, in Medina, left Medina Airport yesterday afternoon to fly to Corfu to pick up Smith, who was assistant manager in the store in which KERR was employed. He landed in a field near the Smith home to take his friend for a pleasure ride.
Mrs. LaVern SMITH, a sister-in-law of the deceased Corfu man, stated last night that young KERR landed in front of the Genesee Street house where her family also lives. Young SMITH with his wife, Beatrice, and their 11 months old daughter, Patricia, came out of the house to greet them. SMITH got into the plane and he and KERR started out for a ride. They watched the plane as it circled the countryside and say it circled over the father-in-law’s house, some distance away. Suddenly the plane seemed to stop and immediately disappeared.
Sensing that a crash had taken place the family group, who had been watching, raced for the scene in a car. In the meantime the mother of SMITH had heard the plane overhead and going to the kitchen of her home she reached the window just in time to see the plane crash in the pasture lot just a few hundred feet in the rear of the home. Dr. Sydney McLOUTH, also a Genesee County coroner, was called by the elder Mrs. SMITH and it was not until he reached the scene of the crash that she knew it was her son in the plane. SMITH was apparently killed instantly from a fractured skull and crushed chest. KERR died at 9:15 o’clock last night in St. Jerome’s Hospital, Batavia, where he was taken in an ambulance following the crash. He was suffering from fractures of both legs, a fractured neck and internal injuries.
The two men were taken from the plane, a two seater Aeronca, by Chief Arthur BRADE of the Corfu Fire Department and Fireman Marion N. WEED. The entire front part of the plane was demolished with the propellor and engine burying themselves in the ground. The landing gear was stripped from the machine. Witnesses in the neighborhood of the crash stated that the plane seemed to be in difficulty where it was flying low over the Smith home. The Medina man had been piloting a plane for the past three years. He purchased his plane about nine months ago from William BAKER and H. H. JACKSON, both Medina men, and it was being kept in the hangar at the Medina Airport. Airport officials stated today that the plane was in apparent perfect condition when it left the local airport. KERR was considered a good pilot and above the average in observing safety precautions. An investigation of the accident is being made by Inspector Harold L. KEMP, State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Batavia Barracks, and by Mr. MILLER of the Civil Aeronautics Administration of Buffalo.
The CAA stated this morning that the investigation has not been completed. The motor of the plane bore no indication of being faulty and it is quite certain that it would have operated well in a take off or landing. Marks on the wings which bear resemblance to brush marks from wires are being analyzed as a possible solution to the cause of the accident. The fact that the plane was flying low and came in contact with wires or a tree top would not have given the pilot sufficient time to right his machine before striking the ground. Coroner McLouth has issued certificates of accidental death for both men.
Among those who immediately rushed to the scene of the accident was John FELLER of Medina, a brother-in-law of SMITH. FELLER, also a pilot, received his instructions at about the same time as Young KERR. Said FELLER, 'I don’t know what could have happened. He was a good pilot. He even had enough presence of mind to turn off the ignition key before the crash. I was going to take a trip with him Wednesday afternoon to take some aerial photographs of Medina places.
Robert L. SMITH was born in Corfu March 8, 1924. He attended schools in that village and was graduated from Corfu High School. He served two and half years in the U. S. Navy during the recent World War. He joined his brother, Elmo, in the Medina A & P Store about four years ago and had been employed there since that time. Surviving are his widow, Beatrice Klein SMITH, and one daughter, Patricia; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert J. SMITH, two sisters, Mrs. John FELLER of Medina, and Mrs. Albert BRIGHTENFIELD of Corfu and two brothers, Elmo of Knowlesvllle and LaVerne of Corfu.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 9 o’clock from the home of his parents in Corfu, and at 9:30 a. m. in St. Francis Church, Corfu. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lancaster.
Robert L. KERR was born April 10, 1926 in Toledo, Ohio. His parents are Ivan F. and Ruth LEWIS KERR of 318 West Avenue. He lived with his parents in Bowling Green, Ohio and Henderson, Kentucky before moving to Medina in January 1936 when Mr. KERR came here in the employ of the H. J. Heinz Co. He attended and was graduated from Medina High School. His schooling was interrupted by World War II. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in December 1944 and served with the 5th Air Force in Japan. He was discharged at Ft. Dix, N. J. on August 26, 1946. He returned to receive his high school graduation in the Class of 1948. Robert KERR was a member of the Medina Methodist Church, the Army Air Force Reserve Corps; Orleans Lodge 1.0.0.F. 217 and Medina Encampment 106, both of which he was serving as an officer. He was also a member of Welcome Rebekah Lodge. For several years he had been employed in the Medina store of the A & P Tea Co. Surviving are his parents, two sisters, Carolyn L. KERR, a student in Bowling Green College, and Sara Jane at home; his grandmother, Mrs. Esther STERNER of Findlay, Ohio and several uncles and aunts.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 from the Hartt Funeral Home, Pearl Street, with the Rev. Reginald CORY officiating. Burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery.

Sharon Kerridge, who was recognized as a Legendary Local of Orleans County in 2011, passed away at her home in Ocala, Florida on July 14, 2022. The listing of Legendary Locals was compiled by Hollis Canham and Andrew Canham.Though her name may be unfamiliar, Sharon was a true unsung heroine, a pioneer in the field of online genealogy research. She devoted countless hours behind the scenes to input, verify and organize cemetery listings for the Orleans County GenWeb site. Sharon’s interest in cemetery records began in the early 1990s, when she was assisting her sister, Donna, on a family research project which involved diligently deciphering headstones in the Town of Gaines and Town of Carlton cemeteries. Her interest coincided with the advent of online technology.
The USGenWeb® Project was established in 1996 by a group of genealogists who wished to provide free online resources for research. Online access to cemetery records and census information fueled a huge interest in family research. The Orleans County GenWeb site went online in June 1997 and soon was the envy of many researchers from other areas who did not have access to such a resource. It was maintained by unheralded volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to input content and update information. Sharon was involved from the beginning and continued in her role as coordinator even after her move to Florida.
“In the early days, Sharon spent many hours photographing headstones,” said her sister, Donna Miller Gordon. “She devoted countless hours to working on the website, it was her passion. She did not look for accolades or acknowledgment. She had a good heart and felt empathy for the families of those whose information she was entering, particularly for the families of those who died at a young age.”
The homepage of orleans.nygenweb.net is familiar to any person who has searched for information on deceased Orleans County residents. It is a portal to an absolute treasure trove of information: census records from 1830 – 1930, military records, some church records and family histories. It also provides access to cemetery listings for Orleans County cemeteries – pure gold for any family researcher. As an added bonus, the site does not require registration, login or passwords. Using information supplied by cemetery staff and local funeral homes, Sharon continued to update the cemetery listings until shortly before her death. Colleague, Jim Friday has volunteered to take over management of the website.
Sidney V. KERRISON passed away at the Medina Hospital about one o’clock Tuesday afternoon, death being caused by burns received by the gasoline explosion the day previous. Deceased was about 36 years of age and a man highly regarded in the community. He was formerly a member of the firm Grinnell & Kerrison, grocers, and since the dissolution of the firm had been associated with the Conway Dry Cleaning Company.

Charles A. KING, teller of the Orleans County National Bank at Albion, who shot himself on Thursday last, died at the residence of his father early Tuesday morning. The deed was committed in the office of Dr. Bailey, after some conversation in regard to the health of Mrs. KING. Mr. KING expressed his regret that the result of the act was not immediate death and all efforts made by the physicians to probe for the bullet were met in the appeal to be let a lone. The ball could not be found. There are numerous theories as to the cause of the suicide, none of which reflect in any way upon his honor and integrity. It is probable that a derangement of his faculties, from no particular cause, was responsible for his self-destruction.
Mr. KING was about forty years of age, a man generally esteemed and respected, efficient in his duties at the bank, and above reproach in his domestic relations. He had been in the employ of the bank since boyhood. He was a member of Albion Lodge A. 0. U. W., and during the war served in the 151st N. Y., Vols. His funeral was held at the Presbyterian church on Wednesday. He leaves a wife (Ellen HUNT) and two children (Henry & Marjorie), the oldest but ten years of age.

Another of our oldest citizens has passed away. Seth L. KING, who has been an invalid for several years, died yesterday morning. He was born in Steventown (Stephentown), Rensselaer, March 15, 1800 and came to Albion in 1839. In 1826 he was married to Harriet A. BARBER, and after her death was again married, in 1839, to Rachel PROCTOR, who now survives him. He had seven children, only one of whom, James B. KING, is now living.
Until old age incapacitated him, Mr. KING was one of our most active and enterprising citizens. He was a public spirited, kind, obliging and friendly man, ever ready to confer a favor and impart needed advice.
